Mass media is biased. It always has been. Did you know there are also slums in Madrid, Paris, and Milan? The divide between developed and developing countries is non existent anymore. It’s all just media hype or cropping that determines which countries are “rich” from those who are “poor”. In reality, poverty stats and the wealth gap are consistent for most developing and developed countries, mostly hovering around 10-20% for all but the poorest countries.
I'm Korean, and I live near that place. Let me explain.. this place is not actually a slum, and there are not much people who actually even live there. That is why it is so silent and clean. So what is this place? After Korean war, some people illegally settled down there. Land owners or government didn't look into them cuz it was a shit land by then. But when redevelopment started, this place became gold, because at that time Gangnam already became one of the most expensive place in Korea. Even though those people settled down illegally, Korea has a law that with years of living in certain place, nobody can just kick out the residents from the place. So during rapid redevelopment of Gangnam, rich people bought those houses there from wartime settlers thinking that place is going to get developed soon, like all other areas around the town. By the way when a place is redeveloped, as the residents has to leave the place, governments pay certain amount of money for them. So the home owners want the new going-to-built apartment for compensation while gov been trying to convince them for paying equivalent amount of money.(But everyone knows getting the apartment is much more beneficial) Deal has been stuck since then, so that is why the place is still look like it is in 60s If you wanna see the real slum, better find real ones.(Of course there are slums in every country, including Korea) But nah this one ain't.
My company is near that area. Because long-term residents receive almost the same compensation as owners. Not only the land owners but also the people who live there are extremely wealthy. Most of the local people do not live there. However, in order to maintain the title of long-term resident, the living environment is maintained. They visit periodically and stay there for a few days. Just take a look at the fact that a small apartment near that area costs at least $1.2 million. Development is not taking place for a long time due to the conflict between land owners, long-term residents, and Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Yep, this is what Korea looks like. Nobody mentions in their cute travel vlogs that literally 8ft behind a skyscraper is a home or community built out of sheets of metal. I will add that the type of people who live in these places are hard workers, usually farmers, restaurant workers, people who work with their hands.

as a korean... i have learned this while websurfing. so in 1988, korean olympic started. however the korean government was so obssesed with making other country feel good about korea. so they crushed all the slums with bulldozer and than the people in there were lost. and this is where they are living now.

Felicitaciones. Saludos desde Argentina.
Guryong Village is a shanty village formed by people with no place to go one by one, pushed by the development of the city center since the late 1980s, and about 2,000 people currently reside illegally in 403 shanty houses. This is the last remaining shanty town in Korea. The reason why it has not been redevelopment is that the old people here are making unreasonable demands to the Seoul Metropolitan Government. And less than a third of the 2,000 people whose addresses are registered here actually live here. Those who register their addresses here want a lot of financial compensation because the land price in Gangnam is expensive, but they are not landowners here.
This is not actually a slum. It's because there's a benefit. These poor-looking people have more money than ordinary Korean people. Don't be taken in as a slum.
Slums are everywhere in this world..only certain parts of this world slums are called in different words or ways..for instance in my country there are no slums BUT rented houses like studios, 1 or 2 bedrooms are actually "slums" to the underprivileged residents here.
The people there intentionally live there in the slum because those places are actually very near gangnam, and the land is very expensive, easily few million dollars. They are waiting for the redevelopment.
Few people live there now. (You can see almost no people in the video.) Those shacks are slated to be torn down, and highrises are planned in their place. The place has a run-down appeance because there's no need for up-keep. The land price there is extremely high--Several million dollars (!) per square meter. I am NOT kidding.

It may be slum as per Korea’s standard of progress but the slum looks clean conpared to another slum areas of other countries.
Slums are reality of big cities.Interesting to see reality videos like this one.

as a korean... i have learned this while websurfing.
so in 1988, korean olympic started. however the korean government was so obssesed with making other country feel good about korea. so they crushed all the slums with bulldozer and than the people in there were lost. and this is where they are living now.
You might think it's a slum, but it's 2 billion per house. Everyone is waiting for the reward.
That's if they pay them because many in sejong city have never been paid and others in bogwnag dong
You don't go back into the deep side alleys. Much cleaner than the slums in Japan. It's just like a poor residential area
That has got to be one of the most tidy “slums” I’ve ever seen. To continue to have pride in what you have, when it is so little compared to what you see out your door is truly commendable and respectful. Continue to be strong and proud. Seek Gods wisdom and guidance. I will pray for each and every one of you each day. My name is Linda Li Fox, daughter of Sun Ja Li Mitchell who now lives with Jesus. I will not forget you.
OF COURSE DENIAL 🤣🤣
It is common at every big city. We always find the paradox view over the luxuries high building.
it's nice coz many trees!
Every country has its slums. ..this is the best one I have seen. It just needs getting rid of the junk add little paint outside the shacks and we're good👍
Felicitaciones.

If government dont compensate them with a fact check, how else they would live? To live in a new house/apartment cost fortune you know 😢
The cleanest and calm slum I ever seen. So peaceful❤
This is not actually a slum. It's because there's a benefit. These poor-looking people have more money than ordinary Korean people. Don't be taken in as a slum.
Slum:
Slum, Korea: 🤩🤩😍😍😍
Every big city has this kind of neighborhood. Even if you go to Dubai, you'll find it behind highrise buildings
I don't think there's a place like this in Dubai and Doha
Slums are everywhere in this world..only certain parts of this world slums are called in different words or ways..for instance in my country there are no slums BUT rented houses like studios, 1 or 2 bedrooms are actually "slums" to the underprivileged residents here.
I only saw a few people. Are most of the houses abandoned?
they are in the city working.
The people there intentionally live there in the slum because those places are actually very near gangnam, and the land is very expensive, easily few million dollars. They are waiting for the redevelopment.
70 % of houses are abandoned.
Teşekkür ederim

Good mormon freind thank you for great sharing enjoy watching here

Still clean and peaceful area, the slum here in our country has many bystanders and marites! 😝
Few people live there now. (You can see almost no people in the video.) Those shacks are slated to be torn down, and highrises are planned in their place. The place has a run-down appeance because there's no need for up-keep. The land price there is extremely high--Several million dollars (!) per square meter. I am NOT kidding.
Nah but there’s poor village dumpster shelter and homeless act in South Korea
