Nice! Thanks for info. I have to replace my flywheel/pull start mechanism (i over enthusiastically pulled it apart last fall) and used the backup wrap line around flywheel on the rest of my outings. Worked fine but have to take cover off every time.
When changing gear lubricant without a pump can you add the gear oil from the top plug with the bottom one screwed in until it starts running out ? Thanks for sharing
It's not a great idea. The gear oil is thick and you could end up with an air pocket in the bottom... you might think it's full when it's not. That's way the directions say to fill from the bottom.
Amazing presentation man! Such organized and direct explanation! I need to buy HONDA BF5 & BF50 SERIES OUTBOARD BOAT MOTOR PULL STARTER GEAR, do you know where I can find it?
It’s my first time owning an outboard I don’t want to damage the moter, please help me with my steps Step 1. Determine oil level and oil type and add to motor, with gas. Step 2. Add water hose for test run. Step 3. 1-3k rpm for first 10 hrs. What else should I note when FIRST starting and running procedure to avoid damage!? THANKS
@@shuswapoutdoors Do you use the internal gas tank at all or just connecting it to an external gas tank or both? Also, let's say you are just using the external tank only, do you still need to flush out all the gas from the lines in the motor of not using it for more then 6 months?.... Thanks
Mine doesn't have an internal fuel tank. If you use boat gas (marked premium), you're fine to let it sit. If you're using fuel with ethanol, you need to flush it out. The ethanol will slowly dissolve the plastic lining in the fuel line, and it will clog the jets in the carb.
Very clear and organized presentation. Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks Skipper
Just the perfect vid, My job for this coming weekend .👌
Glad it helped!

Good job, I learned how to do one of my weekend projects. Thank You.

Thanks for the video. I'm new to doing an outboard service. Are there any differences to servicing a 2hp Honda 4 stroke outboard
Not much. There pretty much all the same
@@shuswapoutdoors Thanks for the answer. I like your simple and very clearly presented video.

BOAT MOTOR PULL STARTER GEAR, do you know where I can find it?
At a Honda dealer. And thank you!
Good job 👌🏽
Cheers
Would oil on spark plug indicate piston rings worn would you do a compression test and what compression would you expect for that outboard
Yes, but for a 13 year old motor, I'm not worried about it burning a little oil. It's not worth the money to fix it at this point.
Awesome! Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Will the reverse switch work when the outboard is not running? I have a BF5 and can't seem to put it in reverse when the motor is not running.
Yes, it will go back and forth with the motor off
My 2022 5hp Honda has Started getting very Stiff to shift. Any Suggestions?
Have you changed the gear oil?

*I AM BREAKING IN A NEW OUTBOARD*
Change the oil after the first 10 hours
How often do you change the oil?
Twice a year, but I put a ton of hours on it.
