Fantastic! A brilliant show. make sure you are watching Hercules as well. The character of Xena comes from the 1rst season of Hercules, and the shows connect all the time with lots of crossover characters.

I wasn't sure which DVD set to get, but your recommendation of the Anchor Bay version for better quality sound helped guide my decision. Thanks! Question: Without spoiling anything, will I be lost (or missing a lot of context) if I only watch Xena? I am planning to watch Xena first and then, if I enjoy it, also buy and watch Hercules afterwards. Are the stories interweaved between the two shows such that they are more enjoyable by watching both shows simultaneously, bouncing back and forth between them in the order each series' episodes aired?
For a first time viewer, it's highly recommended to start with Hercules and watch in order, switching back and forth between the 2 once you get to Hercules s2/Xena s1. The first 3 episodes where Xena's character is introduced are all in Hercules season 1. Lots of cross-over characters (more than 20) that go back and forth between both shows. Some characters and plots start in Herc and end in Xena, and the reverse as well.
Go with the Anchor Bay sets of Hercules as well. Not only better quality, but the newer set of Hercules season 1 is actually missing the show's entire first year. Hercules had a series of TV movies before the first season which introduced the world and characters (and are pretty fun too). The Anchor Bay set includes them.

I just bought the six 2003 deluxe collector's editions box sets of Xena, and now I'm going to seek out the six AB Hercules sets you show in your other "home release guide" video. I'm not ashamed to admit that what drew my attention to the Xena series was the absolute beauty of the actresses, but it appears I first need to watch the movies and earlier season episodes of Hercules before jumping into Xena. Do you know of any spoiler-free (without mentioning arcs or major plots/events) "ordered" lists of episodes between the two series? I'm afraid if I search online for such a list, I'm going to spoil aspects of the shows. Thanks again!
No, I haven't seen any lists like that. They really took advantage of the back-to-back timeslot, starting with Friday nights Hercules 8-9, Xena 9-10. It would involve a lot of disc-swapping (which I don't see the problem with, but I know some people find bothersome), but the most authentic way to watch them would be: Hercules TV movies- Amazon Women (first appearance of Lucy Lawless, but as a different character), Lost Kingdom, Circle of Fire (the best one), Underworld, Maze of the Minotaur Hercules season 1 (includes the Xena trilogy of eps.) and then switching back and forth between shows starting with Hercules season 2 ep. 1, then Xena season 1 ep. 1, ect.
It really only matters for Hercules season 1-5, and Xena seasons 1-4. The last season of Hercules is very short and standalone (Kevin left the show), and Xena seasons 5 & 6 are very separate since there was no more Hercules.
