hello you dirty potters, how are you today. continuing our glaze review playlist today we are reviewing the Potter's choice Amoco glaze River Rock pc-67.
I actually really like this glaze although I've tested it on five different pieces and almost none of them come out the dark Rock glaze it promises on the front although I'm pretty happy with the results.
if you like this kind of content make sure to give it a thumbs up and make sure you leave a comment on what you would like the next glaze review to be. right now we're going through the Amoco stuff but my plan after that is to go through mayco.

River Rock has become one of my “go to” glazes when I am stumped. When you brush on you get the dark greyish blues come out and heavier layers result in the gold. It loves texture.

River rock is one of my favourites over throwing lines, glorious black and tan. Try a bowl or deep dish with three coats ancient jasper and two coats river rock on just one third of the rim - fabulous

Laughing a little at how much you love the c-10 snow here after just watching last night the video where you were trashing on it so fiercely. The contrast of reactions was what amused.

Enjoy your review. Discovered Blue Rutile on top of River Rock with cone 5 and 10 min hold makes an awesome combination.

Love that glaze. Thanks Donte, I will try it with snow. But you know that if you don’t do the proper Glaze Review intro we have to do it ourselves!....

looks like ancient jasper rather than river rock - likely because the firing was hotter like a 7.... Fire to 5/6 and it will look much more river rock. Many of the PC glazes can be fired to cone 10 but they change look with temp. Any pics of the witness cone(s) from that firing??

So strange! Mine turns out dark gray on bmix but it does have a bit of a brown melt to it. Your version is lovely!

You would get better color results if you brushed 3 coats on instead of pouring. I heard this brand does better that way.

I do kind of 2D ceramic tile work. You mentioned the crystal glazes by coyote. And I think everyone's problem with coyote glazes is that the test that you see is generally a flat surface you're expecting that same result on your vertical surface. Those slow cool glazes react more how the picture shows if they are on a flat surface then if they're on a vertical surface. Ive come to really enjoy them. And even some glazes like the coyote Reds that people say look plasticky. I find when I use them at my job and smaller areas or on flowers and things and I use other glazes with them like the slow cool rose crystal over-the-top of the really red. But i can see where I wouldn't be a fan of them on a vertical surface.

I LOVE to throw with Obsidian/Cassius, but it does weird things to glaze. It makes glazes bubble. I had some lovely demitasse cups that I put Winter Wood on the rims and they developed hundreds of warts. They were not pretty. But some glazes are beautiful on this clay.

Hi Dante! Great video. I love these reviews. I have a glaze question. Glazing my first pieces ever and one of them I dipped the rim in brush on glaze and now that it’s dry, it looks like it is cracking/ready to flake off. Is that ok and will melt in the kiln or do I need to take it off somehow and start again before firing?

Is your clay body the same that the glaze picture was taken on? My studio has a bunch of test tiles with our studio glazes, and there are crazy differences between clay bodies for the same glaze

does that obsidian always bloat like that?

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics  3 роки тому

There's a way to minimize it but it often does and I usually don't feel like doing an entire dedicated Kiln load to just obsidian clay.
It essentially either needs a very special firing that was created by the Clay's creator or you can't mix it with other stuff that would undergo a normal firing.

Not untill all covid restrictions are gone. Until then it would be unfair to anyone who does not have access to a kiln and those who do own a kiln or have access to one would have a massive advantage.
