I just love Alden's Color #8 Shell Cordovan with that BEAUTIFUL EGGPLANT HUE!!!
A man can be an artist at anything.. your art is shoes and I’ve watched you paint many of masterpieces.
I have been going to Goodwill and salvation army to look for shoes to practice on my new hobby...it's a blast!
It’s a lot of fun! Good hunting!
Dude, I'm doing the exact same thing every saturday morning! I found a pair of AE Park Avenues :)!
@@chaccaron4321 nice! I might make a video
Yea me too!
A very relaxing hobby at that👍
Yours are the luckiest shoes on planet earth. Thanks to you, I'm now pampering mine, and with grand results. And a box of fancy french potions...
That’s awesome!
Thanks to you I could take care of my muddy shoes in a better way. You are doing a great service to ignorant shoe owners like me. Keep up the good work. Much appreciated.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
You've done it again my man. Great job!
Thanks, Brett!
Man you do great work!!!
Beautiful pair! Nice work on achieving that color tone!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome vid man!!
These shoes look amazing👌🏼
Thanks! I appreciate it
Simply beautiful. Love the te technique hack.
Thanks!
Very informative and entertaining. Keep it going Preston. 👊
Thanks!!!
Beautiful shoes!
Second comment!!! Love your videos so much! Keep it up!!!
Thanks, John!
Good vid. I truly enjoy watching your vids. So informative, and I find so relaxing. I am gaining a decent collection, Florsheim Royal Imperial Beatle Boots, last catch. But have learned so much. Thank you sir.
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching Jeff. Keep up the great work!
Your exactly right...they are perfectly imperfect 👌👍
Another great video!!! I can’t wait to do this to my Strands in coffee cordovan!
The article isn’t in the description.
Updated it
That's one hell of a graduation gift. And shell cordovan in the sunlight? You've outdone yourself. Salute
Thanks! These are some of my favorite shoes. I should probably wear them more.
wow, these shoes are beautiful.
I don't quite know what it is but man I love you videos
Very nice looking shoes and the sun is wonderful .
☀️ ☀️ ☀️
I love the way you do shoes
Thanks, Carlos!
HI, PRESTON! Damn, those are beautiful shoes! Very nice. Hugs and kisses to Zelda!!
Zelda says hi! She’s growing fast!
Man those shoes are 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks
Those are sharp kicks, Preston! Nice work as always. I need some shell cordovan!! Some Daltons would be a great start!!!
That’s a great boot to get in shell Cordovan. I really want a pair in brown shell.
Nice video, go tritons!
Have to try the 1909 on my shell. Looks like a good shine!
Amazing. Preston, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Cheers from Bogotá, Colombia!
Thank you! I hope to visit Colombia one day!
@@TheElegantOxford You're always welcome. Just make me know to host you.
super cool. got to try some of that 1909 as well.
It’s great stuff!
Great idea and I will try this, once the sun comes back to us.
Yes give it a try!
Thank you hermano. Now this will be my next pair to purchase, absolutely grand ol’ shoe
Awesome! Totally worth the purchase
@@TheElegantOxford should I buy the long wing tip or the ones you have?
Awesome 👍
Thanks very much for sharing, this video has answered my question about each shoe having different patinas. I was getting quite concerned, same exact thing with my pair, one has more red and the other eggplant. Might just try putting the eggplant color out and leave the more red shade inside. Also, ordered hermes red and cherry Saphir polish just in case. Again thanks for your channel, just subscribed and look forward to enjoying while learning more about your art work!
Thanks Chris! Shell patinas differently in each section of the shoe.
Glad the video helped
They look great, carnal.
Thanks, Miguel!
Preston, awesome video as usual! I have applied Neatsfoot Oil, can I still place them in the sun?
Beautiful shoes 👍
Thanks, Michael!
So happy to see your sub count growing! I'm so excited to see where the channel is going.
Thank you so much! I couldn’t do it with out you guys!
This is excellent. Can you identify your brushes and creams of choice?
Will this work with some normal smooth calf leather shoes? Have some deep burgundy double monks I wish were a tad brighter towards mahogany/chili. Keep up the great work, Preston!
Yes this will work on calf as well
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Preston you are amazing. It doesn't matter how many videos of you polishing shoes I see, I always learn some new very intresting and informative fact on the subject.
When you leave your shoes outside, do you get them in at night? or do you leave them out there day and night unitl they reach the colour you want? and do you moisture them often while they are out or only at the first day?
Hey, Chato. I bring them in at night since I don’t want the morning dew to get to them and place them back out at 11am
Beautiful
🙏🙏🙏
Preston. How about a video that focuses on treating and monthly maintenance on the edge of the shoes and what products to use. Ty
That’s a good idea
Hey bud, love the videos. Any suggestions for a good leather cleaner?
It depends how much you need to clean. Saphir polishes have solvents in them to tell remove old polish but if you need to clean and remove old wax I’d suggest Saphir renomat. Just be careful as it can strip off a lot of polish in one go.
Hi Preston..Is it possible to apply a skin conditioner like Johnson cream.. or a Vaseline before putting shoes in the sun?.. many thanks ..
Go Tritons! I'm a Thurgood Marshall grad. My Son is a Revelle grad.
That’s awesome! I was Muir
I love you videos. Was the ding almost half way through the video an accident? I enjoy being able to watch your videos as they don’t disturb sleeping babies and wife.
Yes it was an accident haha.
Love the videos. So relaxing and I’ve learned a huge amount. Question: is it possible to turn my black Joseph Cheaney’s brown?
No unfortunately it’s not. Black shoes are almost impossible to change to another color
The Elegant Oxford thanks for getting back
I recently bought a used pair of AE online, not knowing that they were polished cobbler. There is some cracking in the vamp area. Any suggestions on how to restore?
My beautiful shell cordovan shoes make a creaking sound. Any suggestions?
I can't find that cream anywhere near where I live. What else can I use or what else can I do? Can I just place it out in the sun and just use renavateur daily?
Although you have said it before, would you tell me again, how to distinguish shell cordovan from leather?
I m the 3 comment lol but seriously is he good way to make it look as good as that
Great pacient is the key🤙🏼✌🏼
Thanks for watching, David!
I've been watching these videos for a while now...so question is - how many shoes have you shined at this point ? Several hundred ? Excellent video again PS !
I’m not completely sure to be honest. Probably close to 1,000 or more since I first started.
Do you think this would work on black shell cordovan?
Preston, are these the #2076 wing tip Bluchers in Color 8 on the Aberdeen last, by chance? Been eyeing those for a while. What a great shoe!
Very close but mine are on the plaza last.
@@TheElegantOxford that's great. Here in (my country) they don't have many Alden dealers but I called a shop and found they had the tassel loafers with the Aberdeen last in my size for me to try. This way I could at least get a feel for whether it's a solid choice for me.
I recently bough some Alden LWB in color 8, which I am stripping the acrylic finish off of them
Hey, Jesus! Some people don’t like that finish but I never removed mine.
@@TheElegantOxford In case you are curious, I used acetone and gentle pressure. because of the brogueing I used a q-tip for the edge of the wing. They looked very dull after removing the finish. I just brushed them until the shine came back. I am also fading them in the sun, will complete with Saphir cordovan cream and mirror wax. I'll post photos on IG once complete. I'll tag so you can check results
Hey can you please add before and after photos in similar lighting conditions?
Nice job as always, Preston! ✨
Thank you!
amazing..hope tp became good like you one day! could u tell me the name of that piano song please?
Does this only work on Shell Cordovan shoes?
I wish I had a pair of shell cordovan shoes.
They are awesome! Worth saving up for.
Hey Preston! I have a quick question for ya. I just purchased and received my first Allen Edmonds off of eBay. They are the black Chester wingtips and I scored them for less than $45. I am planning on having them resoled in the near future, and the upper leather is in acceptable shape. However, seeing that they have seen their wear, there is some cracking (mostly minor) and a small area on the outside of the right shoe has flaked off (a little chip from the top layer of leather). I was disappointed to see this, seeing that it wasn’t advertised in the photos on eBay, but could you offer me any advice on how to fill that area and make it more acceptable? Thank you! Sincerely, JG
These types of repairs can be easy or a pain depending on how bad they are.
Saphir renovating repair cream has resins pigment in it to fill in small cracks and tears. Give it a try.
I wonder how this technique will work on calf. Imma try this weekend on a pair of my thrifted shoes!
@Seine O'More i did bro but it didn't work for me. It wasn't that sunny here so maybe that's why it didn't for me!
A really nice chunky clunky country brogue....... Super cool :)
Right? It’s a good look!
One more thing. My god beautiful shoes.
Thanks!
TIL that nicer shoes naturally make weird squeaky shoe ASMR and it's not just from the camera mic. 😮 it's so distinct
where did you buy venetian shoe cream? Ive been looking for it and its only available in USA
It’s made in the USA so I don’t think they sell it oversees. I got my bottle from a friend.
Can I use black shoe polish on brown shoes to turn them black?
Will this only work on shell Cordovan or will it also work on regular leather shoes? Also did you recondition them after each day or only the once in the beginning? Thanks
It will work with any leather shoe. I didn’t recondition daily. Just the initial time.
What brand of shoe brushes do you use, the white brittle one looks like it's very dense
It’s a hanger project horse hair brush
Can you achieve a mirror shine on a pair of $70 unbranded black brogues made in Asia that's marked as 'leather uppers' ?
Hi, great channel and great videos, I have a small issue with my black shell cordovan Carmina wingtips, I wonder if you could help with. The issue is on one of the pairs, the vamp crease is not straight, it's on an angle which makes the shoe look ugly. I have removed the creases with a dear bone, but every time I reuse the shoe the crease appears in the same place (angled) again! and I'm using shoe trees. Any tricks to get it in the right place (straight) ?
It happens sometimes and it’s being caused by how your foot flexes. Sometimes they are not straight across but angled.
I know it’s annoying but I don’t know how to make it go away.
Thanks for your reply, its strange that this is happening only on this shoe and not on any other ones that I have. If you do come across a Solution in the future please make video. Thanks again for replying and for a great channel.
I would assume Saphir Neutral Cordovan Cream would work for this process as well?
Yes absolutely
Anyone know how to take creases out of leather? Iron+towel method don't work and could smell my shoes cooking
Excellent video, how can I lighten a dark blue AE Cornwallis calf skin leather any advice would be appreciated.
There are multiple methods but sunlight is probably the easiest and safest way. You can use acetone but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re confident you can do it.
@@TheElegantOxford wow sunlight will work on a regular leather shoe and lighten them?
Yes, it will just take a couple of weeks. It takes time but it’s worth it
Do it work just whit UV light? :p
Wow nice pair of shoes, great video,
I’m in South Africa looking for shoes made in America, very hard to find
All quality branded shoes available are made in China, Korea India and South Africa doesn't feel the same
Meermin is made in China and they are top quality. Give them a shot they are affordable and great!
Have you ever tried ironing the shoes over a wet cloth to reduce the creases. I've seen a few people on youtube do that. What are your thoughts ?
I’m working on a video about that right now
Does this process also work on "normal" leather? I have some affordable shoes I want to get artsy with
Yes but it would take a little longer. It will work though
Is that 2nd brush, the real light one at about 5 minutes in, just a normal scrub brush like you would use on cleaning a floor? It kind of looks like one ?!
It’s a normal horse hair shoe brush. I got that one from The Hanger Project.
@@TheElegantOxford Thanks Preston, I wasn't trying to make fun, I was just really curious! By the way, I for one would appreciate if you would include what type of brush, and where it is from in your future videos. I really Love your work and passion for making shoes look great, Thanks!
Preston, how do I send you a couple pair of shoes to be worked on? Do you accept outside work? They are both Foot Joy classic dress shoes that need TLC. Thank you......Jeff Frank
Hey, Jeff! I do accept outside work but am currently booked for a months. Email me and we can talk
The Elegant Oxford. That sounds good, I will email you!
How many times did you wear this shoes?
It’s been over 4 years so at this point since I bought them so I’ve worn them dozens and dozens of times.
This video brought to you by BIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDMAAAAAAAAAAAN
Hard to believe those shoes are 4 years old. They look like they’re about 2 months old. How many times a week do you don these beauties for wear in the real world? Glad to have found your site, great background music😉
I wear them a couple of times per month. I don’t wear them as much as my other pairs but I really like them
Can this be done with a 20+ year old pair of cordovan?
Yes of course!
How can I contact you? I would like to send you a pair for some patina. Thanks.
Did you condition them at every start of the day before putting under the sun?
Came here to clarify this detail. Do you do it every day or just the initial layer?
Just the initial layer.
Great video!!! Can you inbox me details concerning your rates and scheduling timelines?
Cheers
Hey, Robert. I’m currently booked solid for a couple of months but I would love to work on your shoes. I charge $100-200 depending on job and it’s about a 3 week turnaround
@@TheElegantOxford that's awesome! Busy is ALWAYS good. What is the process from this point? Should I wait for a few months and get back to you or do we schedule a shipping time for the future?
Does it work through a window?
Yes, it should work as long as the window doesn’t have a UV filter
Or maybe a tanning salon?
This gonna work on CXL…?
Yes, it will definitely will. It might take a little longer, but I’ve run this experiment on all types of leather and the sun always lightens the shoe.
Awesome because I bought a pair of Thursday vanguard a bit too big, but the color is amazing…now. I honestly forget it’s original, because I bought them during COVID lockdown in US, and I went away (rehab, booze, I’m still good ) but I ordered a new pair now, THE PERFECT SIZE I might add, 😁, but the finish is a bit darker, with ZERO variation, unlike the first. So I found this and am SOOO happy, because I was soooo disappointed with the color. Hope this works cause they’ll be perfect after.
I just Googled Alden shoes, thinking I might get me some.......hmm, just a little out of my price range (😲!!!!!!!)
Allons-y
Preston do you belong to Sikh community ?
No, my parents are Mexican. I always get mistaken for being middle eastern or as a Farsi speaker. Must be my dark hair and light skin.
So the UV💡 actually lightens leather, and darkens us! 😂
Now I wonder if those of us that live in ☀️ deprived areas use UV lamps to achieve a similar result?
Isn’t that weird? It’s the melanin that darkens us to protect us from being burned again. Life is so funny sometimes.
Just looked up a project for a UV cure box under $30. Now I'm wanting to experiment! Thank you Preston! 😊
Like they say in Alabama, it shoe looks good..
Yours is a shoestring operation?
:)
First!
Sorry the correct name of the product is.....
The no product is a little white lie. Is there an alternative for people outside USA?
The sun is literally all you need. Nothing else is necessary.
If you put those outside in the UK right now they are likely to float away never to be seen again.... or possibly be blown away and end up on your neighbours roof
😂😂😂
Like the taming of the shrew no shoe....
Do we really need to see so much polishing/buffing? How about making the product names easier to pick out?
