Oh my God, that is a monster amount of work to just get the transmission out. But with your video, it's not impossible. Thanks for putting out this video out.
In the middle of doing it, your video helped me a lot, thanks a million for posting! Reason for pulling is the Crank shaft position sensor that is stuck, like really stuck!!
I think changing torque tube bearings while the tube is out is a GREAT idea no matter what. The bearings are cheap and changing them while the tube is out is very simple. If they go bad later you will have to pull it all again.
Unholy hell mate what a fantastic video that's a great job you got there people should respect mechanics a bit more than they do, I look forward to tackling this job one day when I get my 928. I plan for a full on restoration soon.
Thanks for the video. I'm currently looking at a questionable 928 and was wondering how hard they are to work on. Though it may be questionable, its a 5 speed and the price is right.
thanks for the video I have everything ready to pull, do I need to pull the bell housing for the front. Ilossened the bracket inside the housing and can not get the front torque tube to release.
+Gregg Hancock I am not real sure about the 944 however on the 928 you must remove the bell housing. I would think its not that much more work and it will give you a ton more room to work.
The "keyed ignition" is a simple cylinder. No wires. There is a "ignition switch" that can go bad that attaches to the cylinder and has a harness attachment. Once you remove your pod it is simple to exchange. A bad switch can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Also a "no start". If you want to remove the "keyed" cylinder...I have never had to...I believe it is held in the housing with a "pin" thru its side. Hope this helps.
+Gregg Hancock It can be done...however I don't think its worth the extra effort to. Quite often the drive rod does not come out of the coupler easily. Much easier to do just removing it all IMHO.
Nice job on the videos. Very concise, articulate, and clear descriptions. Better than most!
Much appreciated!

Can you do a video on transmission mount replacement?

I just started this today, how soon on an install video?

Can I remove the torque tube without removing the transmission

One year later and I'm pulling the transaxel.
It is a 87 porsche 944 automatic
Gee, whiz...That's 100X more complicated than pulling the transaxle out of a 944...
