    75% were working class and a huge portion of that percentage were in poverty. And when in poverty, EVERYBODY worked and they worked excruciatingly hard!!

      Yup. Just like EVERYWERE, ever. I mean, if you really look into it, it was just after the industrial revolution that people started living longer and having free time [after]. Life was hard. retirement is a new thing. At least comparing to older times, there started to have a chance to grow in life. even if it was a small percentage. In poor contries, even nowadays, children work. There's no way around it. it survivorship.

    Obviously, the first question, concerning husbands earning the living while their wives stayed at home to take care of the house and the children, was the ideal that most middle class Victorians aspired to. However, there is a giant leap between ideals and human foibles. Some men were not capable of supporting the family, either through injury, illness, or emotional needs, and their wives had to do something to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Some women chose not to marry, or as they may have put it - never met the right man. These women, if they were not to be a burden on their families, had to find some way to support themselves.
    As far as voting goes, in the beginning, when the US was first established, only men who owned land could vote. Later the vote was spread to every man, unless he was a slave. After years of fighting for it, people who had once been slaves had the right to vote. In the beginning of the twentieth century, women won the right to vote. Each time a different class of people won the right to vote, the ability of the vote to affect what goes on in our government became less and then less. I strongly believe that if our great grandmothers, who fought so hard for women's right to vote, could see what is happening with our government today, and how the vote is perverted, they would turn over in their graves.

    My people were poor, sold tea and bread to get by. Finally got to the US. Dreamed of getting work at a Manchester factory. They never did. They never expected to survive. Grandma always worried over food, even though she survived fine. She lost her family in the flu epidemic.

      Common and unfortunate misconecption. Rates of adultery were lower during the victorian era than had ever been, or would be, in England. Chilren received substantially better nutrition and education than in previous generations. Work ethic peaked and crime rates nadired.

      @@gayleandreah The origin of the myth of an overabundance of Victorian prostitution is very clear: Victorians were far more convinced in the sinfulness and harmfulness of prostitution then we are. Thus, even though it was less of an issue, more attention was paid to it by leading authorities and social commentators. An apt analogy would be how in modern day Britain more time is spent talking about racism, yet I am sure you would agree it was more common during the Victorian era.

    Hard work and people were not as wasteful as today. I feel perhaps people had stronger morals back then, so many social wrongs are overlooked today. Back then if you committed a crime you were punished and made an example of. Today people get away with too much. Also the little things were appreciated more. Sometimes wish for a simpler time where people didnt walk around with a stupid phone glued to their faces

    People think poor these days is homeless , but no poor is retired and disabled. Also poor is homeless. Some of us is poor working class because we learn different then average human. Some of us have a learning style of tactical, vision, or audio. Most people learn with all three style. School style of teaching does not help the people who learn by one, or the other learning style. College does not either. Students has to be the perfect learning style , or they get pass through school.

    Showing a blond man after showing a balding dark-haired man saying he is him... what?
    And did they run out of girl blouses (the pink shirt girl)? And those children are way too clean and awake and breathing much too normally for cotton mill children... and only ten hours a day and no younger than 10? That’s rather rare... and many mill owners employing children were NOT kind to them... they’d commonly lose fingers/limbs and get in trouble for it and even lose their job if they don’t lose their lives!

    Things had to change for the masses Victorian society because of the health of the safety in jobs , education with the change of work and the hypocrisy over sex and marriage. Of course there is the sensitive issue of cruelty and hypocritical views and treatment of homosexuals , ethnic groups , yes they did exist in those days , as well as Irish Scots and Welsh. Much of this has been over looked many documentaries.

    • @Arterexius
      @Arterexius 4 роки тому +1

      Those sensitive issues have been sensitive for much of human history. They've only been brought to light and given rightful understanding in the recent decades. For the vast majority of human history, it was taboo. With India probably being an exception in regards to sexuality as they literally worshipped sex (old hindu temples)

    Yes the bizzare barbaric rituals and class system of victorian era and tradition is an absolute fact . It had created poverty all around the world whether it is africa , india , china , mesopotamia , iraq etc . A system which makes people slave for the 1 % i.e (royal family and aristrocrat's ) people and tie their mental abilities . Victorian brits and then prime minister winston churchill had killed 6 million indians due to hunger and famine by transfering their food supply to europe at the time of ww2 . Britshers and victorians were just like the fascist nazi hitler and musollini . They call their nation a democracy but this is a fact that they are a brutual monarchy. Jallian wala bagh massacre of punjab by general dyre , extorting taxes from poor peasants and farmers of india , africa , turkey , egypt and colonies then, partition of indian subcontinent 1947 are the biggest crimes britishers had done against humanity !!!!!!!!! .
