    There’s never been a time like this. In the past, the choice for a premium motocross bike was limited to four brands. Now, with so many Special Editions in the mix, the decision is overwhelming. KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas have standard models as well as factory replicas. Kawasaki has the original KX450 along with the KX450SR. Honda actually has three different 450 motocross bikes in the line; the original CRF450R is offered alongside the high-end CRF450RWE and the more affordable CRF450RS. Altogether, we have 12 bikes gathered at once. There are even more out there. We couldn’t obtain a TM MX450Fi or a standard GasGas MC450F because of availability issues. Normally, a 12- bike comparison is impossible. Gathering them is hard enough; testing them with any degree of accuracy is worse. But this year we had a one-year head start. The standard editions of 2022 are predominantly unchanged, so we’re already familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. That leaves us to determine where the Special Editions fit in. We expect them to be better and, for the most part, they are. But are they improved enough to displace the bikes we choose as the top 450s of 2021? In the end, we can’t rank every single bike in a fabricated countdown. For the conclusion, we have selected the podium finishers. The rest can be sorted using our ratings in seven different metrics:
    Peak power
    Power Delivery
    Cornering
    Stability
    Suspension
    Comfort
    Value

      @EarthSurferUSA 2 роки тому +2

      Come on, you know better. "The Man", greatly helped develop today's bikes and has done so, I think since he was born, or even conceived. :)
      That Man, (and Grant Langston IMO, with enough middle finger to the EPA), should be running the MX division of the AMA with 100% authority.
      "The Man" is getting old, but everything he touched, has turned to gold. There will never be another Man, like Roger DeCoster in this sport. He was ending his racing just as I was introduced to the sport by Hannah. We are alike you and I. We know greatness when we see it. I bet you don't see a lot left either.
      At least we experienced the best era of the sport, before the 1986 production rule. The muscle car era was the same, affordable, fun, interesting opportunity that grew like a weed,---------before the EPA.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 2 роки тому

      Also, back in the 70's and 80's, the Magazines would do a shoot out, (MXA was always best for MX racers), and if you read them, you knew what you were buying pretty well. I bought a slightly used 2019 YZ250 2-stroke thinking it would be a lot better than my last bike, (97 KX250), because of the magazine praise. It turned out to be the worst bike set up stock that I ever bought. I can make it my best though, (and am doing so), which is another advantage we have over the bike mag testers of today.
      I did not watch this test. I already know which way to spin the clickers. :)

      With Gerrit riding and Roger explaining it was surreal.
      It was the day after the Canadian gp. What dreams are made of. You had to have lived those time's to understand the magnitude of it. Also that it was the pinnacle of motocross at any point ever.
      Was also lucky enough the next year to race in the first ever supercross race in 1977 at the Olympic stadium in Montreal Canada. To walk out in front of 30,000+ fans was mind blowing to this kid! Didn't make the final, fell well running 4th in qualifier. Jim Ellis won on a Can am! Still get goosebumps!

    It's funny how things have changed over the last 10 years it used to be kawi was the engine king and honda was the handling king along with Suzuki with the other bikes being somewhere in the middle of that now it's flipped honda has a mean motor and kawi is all about handling and now the Austrian bikes with used to be 20lbs lighter have only gotten heavier in the last 10 yrs

    I just don't understand Suzuki I don't understand why they can't put an electric start in their darn bikes. I would for sure buy a Suzuki if they had an electric start, a lot of my buddies that I talked to say the same thing, us older guys absolutely enjoy the electric start. All the other bikes have it but not Zuzuki man are they stubborn. I guarantee they would sell a ton of bikes if they would just add the electric start they would make more money and aren't they in the business to make money?

    Do you really need 12" of suspension travel today when there are no bumps on the tracks? The bikes are a bit tall, don't ya think?
    If you are under 5'11" tall, (like over half the population), the next great set up is lower suspension that works well on the smooth tracks, and can land from the jumps that everybody is good at. Now let us see all that vid of you guys getting on those bikes! Notice we don't see that often folks? :)
    I say a good suspension tuner has some real opportunity here, (dropping up to 1.5 inches from the suspension), because corner speed will improve, when the tracks are baby smooth. :)
    And you would stop dropping your bikes at a dead stop. Your not showing that film either. :)
