Why BW say Chili looks black? West African features are beautiful but to say Chili has black features is being disingenuous. If you were to apply a very pale foundation on her and put blue contacts I believe she’ll look European.
@@NAprincess324Really? I think people are forgetting what black really looks like because many biracials and mixed people are representing black people. I also wanted to say that when I first saw the movie “Queen” I had no idea who Halle was at the time and I thought her character was an actual olive complected, white woman when she was in white face. Halle fooled me a second time when she played a white woman in “Cloud Atlas” but I eventually realized it was Halle because of her iconic facial features. Which is why I said Chili might look white on white foundation.
This is so true!! I’m brown skin with 3c-4a curly hair and other black people see me as “exotic”. And will ask me “what do you put in your hair to make it curly?” uhh water… lol and when I tell them they automatically assume I’m mixed with something. And I notice a lot of black men prefer me over other black girls bc according to them I look “exotic” but black men are NOT my preference at all!! 😭
I’m brown skin with 2 black parents but I have 3c4a hair. My dad is light skin with 3b hair and my mom is dark skin with 4c hair. I came out with more of my dad’s features and got mistakened for being biracial growing up. I was also told I had pretty hair a lot whenever I got a silk press and by many older black women. Ngl, I make sure my curls are on point most of the time because I love the compliments I get when I have it out. I feel like it helps me stand out at my diverse university where there’s not a lot of black people.
That is soooo interesting to me! As a girl with short 4c hair, I prefer looooong straight hair OR my big curly wig (I do it in a way that makes the hair as fluffy as possible). People on Reddit always try to say that ohhhhh natural hair is best blah blah blah but we all know that it’s a lie. It was very sad how much easier my life has become after finding the right wigs 😭.
Right. To the people who say looks don’t matter, they’re lying. I like to switch up my appearance and play with my racial ambiguity using wigs and extensions. I don’t care what hair others wear as long as they don’t make fun of women born with that hair texture .
Oh, I admit to wearing weaves in ombré/ balayage dyed styles because my natural hair is turning grey and it’s easier for me to keep my roots darker/ leave out. Trust me ladies, it won’t matter when you get older. You better wear whatever hairstyles/ fashion you want for you before you leave this earth, not for men, and I tell bw most bm don’t prefer bw anyways.
Right! Chili said one word : “caramel” and she had entire articles written about her, called “burnt”, and had her hair texture brought up. All over one word….
4c hair here! so I wear my hair cut very short or wear wigs. I wear my hair the way I want vs wearing my hair for the male gaze! I only get negative comments about my hair from you know who... UABWs!
I am not a fan of 4c hair. It is very hard to manage and when I go out with my hair I attract the dustiest of men. So it is a hell no for me. There is an assumption that you can't afford to get your hair done or that you are lazy when you wear 4c hair out. Everyone else can wear their natural hair but 4c hair is not popular nor liked by society.
and your feelings are valid, not everyone is going to just wake up and get out of bed and expect to be treated like a goddess. some people like different textures and styles on themselves and that is ok. we live in a messed up society where people judge and stereotype so some women choose to social climb using hairstyles that they feel resonate with the lifestyle they want to live.
i remember finally falling in love with my natural 4b hair, after being relaxed for a long time. I shaved my head at least twice, played with color and and once i had left it alone, i achieved shoulder length. i love iit especially when flat ironed. its super versatile, synthetic clip ins are great to change colour in a second. my natural hair, I will be keeping for myself.because - humidity is just a stuggle. I hate human hair extensions because i don't want some random persons keratin/energy and its a bit like taking someones old hairbrush. There are a some amazing synthetic brands with a slight yaki texture so they're not too shiny/dolly. also dry shampoo or talcum is a secret.
It always amazes me how some people feel the need to give you their opinion about you when you didn’t even ask them for it. Ladies if anyone ever comes up to you with rude advice tell them you work in a plastic surgeons office and they need to have work done on their face because their face looks strange. You're absolutely right, exoctical United.Texture I'd far more important to most people than skin color I am glad you discussed this topic.I am the complexion of chille with the same hair texture and it's way below my waist.and I am always asked if I am wearing a wig.my complexion is Hardy every mentioned.I am asked if it's my natural hair by all races.it is a sensitive conversation for many.
Yup! There were plenty of brown/dark skinned girls in my college who got just as much of a “pretty privilege pedestal” as the rest of the mixed and light skinned girls. The people at the HBCU were not as obsessed with skin tone as people think . There were plenty of darker women with those hair textures who got the same modeling opportunities, same photo shoots and brand deals etc.
I hate being told I need to do something with my hair type 4 hair when the night before I did a whole 8-step haircare routine from 4pm to 7-8pm. I’m gonna start wearing wigs (that look like my hair) and braids more bcs I can’t do it, I’m too lazy lol.
YES! There's also alot of jealousy towards people with looser texture hair or straight hair. I have straight hair and I always get complements when I wear it down but this specific girl......she WILL NOT AND CANNOT give a complement without it being backhanded. E.g:Your hair looks good but its short. Your hair looks good but its 'stiff'
Exactly. Even when I show looser hair textures in my videos or talk about people wanting to stretch their hair for it to be looser, with less shrinkage, to be able to soak in product evenly- I have had people come and give the “no one’s jealous of you” talking point 😂😂😂
I have 2a-2b hair type. I’ve noticed over the years the only people that played in my hair were darker skinned people especially women like I’m a Barbie doll without even asking for permission
I definitely can relate to this because all my life I’ve been told I have pretty long hair. I remember one day I decided to wear my hair out of my usual mini twist hairstyle for school & I got so many compliments from my friends, classmates & even my teachers! I would get looks from girls when I walked in the hallway & I remember being so shocked with the different reactions! 😂
Omg that’s what they’re called ! I couldn’t think of the name. But I wore my hair in and out of mini twists as well and my black elementary school TEACHERS were fangirling over my type 3 hair. These women were in their 40s and 50s!
I was always called nappy headed and it really gave me a complex to where I’d constantly over process my hair, I’d leave the relaxer in until it started sticking to my scalp 🥴 I was looking like a ken doll 😂I’m lucky my hair didn’t fall out . Now that I’m older I’ve learned to embrace my natural texture and I’m actually comfortable with it 😁 I think once you reach a certain age, you don’t really care what other people think about you anyway 😂
Ive always said this because im dark skin but my hair is loose like type 3 and some type 2… people constantly other me. Oh and I have had type 4 women come to ME to ask about my routine when their hair is nothing like mine is… its always awkward 😂😂
You're absolutely correct. My sister is very pale and has honey colored eyes, but she has 4 type hair, grown women and our school mates used to make very mean comments about her hair unprovoked. I have light brown skin and curly hair and people weren't nearly as mean, here in Brazil the norm is bone straight hair or artificial waves, even 3 type hair is looked down upon, people with 4 type hair suffer even more, the kids would even make fun of her when she straightened it because they claimed that it didn't look naturally straight
3:51 i like synthetic wigs too but you should definitely try Burmese curly hair. I got it from “goddeshair” and it’s the best curly hair I’ve ever tried. Like doesn’t tangle and i think would be such a good match for most mixed people who want to add length or fullness to their natural curls. I saw a lot of black girls promoting it as the best curly hair but a lot of them were using closures and getting wigs with this hair texture. Which is interesting considering they don’t have that hair texture typically.
I looooove my INH hair pony tails. I have thick type 3 hair and when I put my hair in a pony tail, it’s straightens out to a loose wave. I can wear ANY style or texture of their ponytails because my roots match soooo well 😌 I am obsessed with fake ponies. Other than that, i usually wear my hair out or in two braids with a silk scarf. I just like it to be easy!
Now I think I understand why UADS would tell me my hair wasn’t “fixed” even when I would comb it or go to the hair salon. They just didn’t like my 4B/4C texture or multicultural-centered style. Plus, the styles I wore when I straightened my hair were not Black male-centered, urban or hood. It was just straight with no bend, no curl, no flip, nothing extra - for the most part.
Not going to lie , texturism in the black community doesn’t actually need to exist . If you want your hair curly get a texturised or if you want straight hair then get a relaxer 😂 There is also option for weaves , wigs and prefer synthetic wigs more too , to get more a natural look❤
My hair wasn’t appreciated in the Blk community until I had Blonde locs with wavy/curly ends. It’s funny, 2 days ago I just cut off my hair and love not having to worry about hair or texturism. Just a better solution to a big problem.
I cut my locs off last year . Had them for 14 years and I loved them but I like switching my hair up. my 4c texture allows me to do that. I love braids . That’s what I’m rocking now. I’m having a ball . I just did a quick weave on my daughter . Black women are magicians with this hair ish. I encourage everyone to have fun with it
I have 2A hair and I’m a golden caramel light skin complexion, I always feel good that my hair is beautiful, I love wigs and I own a lot of them and my brother always gets angry when I wear my wigs he always says I don’t understand why you wear these wigs you literally have white people hair 😑🙄 I just don’t know what that had to do with me wearing wigs. I think he’s a texturist to the extreme and I feel because I’m light skinned that I need to always wear my natural hair ahd it’s annoying because I love my wigs but anytime he’s around I just wear my natural hair because all he’s going to do is make a judgemental comment 😢 I can’t win for losing
Candice from RHOP (also known for her vile insults towards light skin/mixed women) said She Has A Fear Of Having Light Skinned Children. Ig would be great if you could make a video about it. The story is actually trending on LSA. It would be great it you could use her example in another video on why in tv reality shows, unambiguous dark skin black women are allowed to make whatever comments on light skin women unprovoked, but when the reverse occurs, all break loose.
@@ExoticalsUnited She just announced that she excepting her first (biracial) child. The fact that she bullied light skin/mixed black women for years (without facing any repercussion), calling them disgusting names and that she's now having a biracial child,
I love wearing soft 2016 Alicia Keys curly hair because it brings out my beautiful features and I receive good treatment from people. When people give me compliments I accept it without shooting myself in the foot.
This is all just about power dynamics. If black people were the most powerful then 4c hair would be deemed the standard and people would think it was the most beautiful. The is is all just about programming and training. Kinky hair people need to learn to love their hair regardless what the world thinks and consider it glamourous and it would help. But until the power structure shifts it's going to be the same with straightest lightest the most copied. It has nothing to do with actual beauty and everything to do with psychology. Because all hair is beautiful and could be deemed the most beautiful of markets as such for generations.
I usually just go to a black beauty supply store and get the one off the mannequin head . Then if I want to get the exact same one again I order it online
Yep, cause 4C women hate their hair. Some really have beautiful hair. It's the one thing that makes me extremely racially ambiguous. I have no clue what type it is but combination. But on the top going straight down the back, a very loose wave with nonexistent curls. It spikes out straight on the end.
I don't think it has to do with features but with how they are proportioned on the face. Y'all just have to accept that some people's faces are disproportionate. Symmetry is seen as a beauty feature globally. Some people are simply ugly and that's ok. Stop trying to guilt us into finding everyone beautiful.

Why BW say Chili looks black? West African features are beautiful but to say Chili has black features is being disingenuous. If you were to apply a very pale foundation on her and put blue contacts I believe she’ll look European.
Right. Chili looks very ambiguous to me . Ambiguous doesn’t mean white .
They’re lying lol they do that to any mixed person who don’t pass the paper bag, they do it to Tyla too
That’s an interesting take on it she always looked black to me
Right! Chilli’s bone structure is very much of her Bangladeshi roots. She does not have West African features and that’s ok.
Tbh texturism and colorism go hand in hand specially for dsbw
Oh, I admit to wearing weaves in ombré/ balayage dyed styles because my natural hair is turning grey and it’s easier for me to keep my roots darker/ leave out. Trust me ladies, it won’t matter when you get older. You better wear whatever hairstyles/ fashion you want for you before you leave this earth, not for men, and I tell bw most bm don’t prefer bw anyways.
Yes! Do what you want!
My natural hair is 4c and I hate it. I'm not saying 4c hair is ugly, it's the most high maintenance and hard to style. I am relaxed and proud of it.
Well it’s YOUR body so you can do whatever you want with it !
@@ExoticalsUnited Thank you! I love that you encourage women to find their own beauty and to not be afraid of it.
I think type 4 hair is a pain in the ass if i was to relax it probably be pass my bra strap cause my natural hair is medium lenghth.
Also, in a conversation about colorism, Chili’s hair texture was still brought up. So yeah, hair texture is definitely more focused on.
I shaved my head at least twice, played with color and and once i had left it alone, i achieved shoulder length.
i love iit especially when flat ironed. its super versatile,
synthetic clip ins are great to change colour in a second. my natural hair, I will be keeping for myself.because - humidity is just a stuggle.
Only say this if they are not crazy of course. It shocks them and they don’t know what to say. It works every time. I hate it when people give advice that you didn’t ask them for. They only do that to beautiful women. It’s like they feel like they have to take a jab at you and try to make you feel insecure about something.
I’m gonna start wearing wigs (that look like my hair) and braids more bcs I can’t do it, I’m too lazy lol.
same, im lazy and i like how fake ponytails dont react to humidity lol
@@ExoticalsUnitedyes exactly! Humidity is my number #1 enemy lol
Thank you for promoting honesty and for opening the conversation 👌🏾This is so needed.
Yes, people won’t admit that they take your features and hair texture into consideration when deciding your skin tone .
I have 2a-2b hair type. I’ve noticed over the years the only people that played in my hair were darker skinned people especially women like I’m a Barbie doll without even asking for permission
Colonization was such a mindf*k 😢
I definitely can relate to this because all my life I’ve been told I have pretty long hair. I remember one day I decided to wear my hair out of my usual mini twist hairstyle for school & I got so many compliments from my friends, classmates & even my teachers! I would get looks from girls when I walked in the hallway & I remember being so shocked with the different reactions! 😂
Omg that’s what they’re called ! I couldn’t think of the name. But I wore my hair in and out of mini twists as well and my black elementary school TEACHERS were fangirling over my type 3 hair. These women were in their 40s and 50s!
Very true. When I wear my hair curly I get shunned but when I blow it out bone straight I become hot. Make it make sense. 😅
Yay! I’m glad you love it now! And I agree about getting older and not caring. There are some things I just don’t care about anymore too 😂
@@ExoticalsUnited ❤️
Ive always said this because im dark skin but my hair is loose like type 3 and some type 2… people constantly other me. Oh and I have had type 4 women come to ME to ask about my routine when their hair is nothing like mine is… its always awkward 😂😂
You're absolutely correct. My sister is very pale and has honey colored eyes, but she has 4 type hair, grown women and our school mates used to make very mean comments about her hair unprovoked. I have light brown skin and curly hair and people weren't nearly as mean, here in Brazil the norm is bone straight hair or artificial waves, even 3 type hair is looked down upon, people with 4 type hair suffer even more, the kids would even make fun of her when she straightened it because they claimed that it didn't look naturally straight
excited to hear your opinion on texturism in workplace/job-hunting ,dating etc....
Oooooh that’s a good topic, my opinion is pretty much do whatever you want because people will judge you either way 😂
You are so right texturism is definitely more of a problem than colorism💯
Subscribed ❤
Now you got me googling synthetic wigs😂
😂😂😂😂I love them especially the ones that are half wigs or the half up half down ponytails! 😂
I’m a little darker and people have asked me “what are you mixed with” just bcs my curls are looser it’s exhausting
My hair was definitely attacked more than anything else
I lovvee your comment foolery videos!!!
Which is interesting considering they don’t have that hair texture typically.
if its under $40 ill try it lol
If you want your hair curly get a texturised or if you want straight hair then get a relaxer 😂
There is also option for weaves , wigs and prefer synthetic wigs more too , to get more a natural look❤
My hair wasn’t appreciated in the Blk community until I had Blonde locs with wavy/curly ends. It’s funny, 2 days ago I just cut off my hair and love not having to worry about hair or texturism. Just a better solution to a big problem.
Yup! Some women just say F it and shave their hair off! I had a friend like that in college
Tell your brother to buy ALL of your hair care products and do your hair for you for 2 months and THEN you will take back over. 😂
Oh wow do you know when she said that? And isn’t her husband white? 😂
@@ExoticalsUnited Sorry I didn’t see your comment. I watch your video about it 🔥
@@ExoticalsUnited She just announced that she excepting her first (biracial) child. The fact that she bullied light skin/mixed black women for years (without facing any repercussion), calling them disgusting names and that she's now having a biracial child,
I love wearing soft 2016 Alicia Keys curly hair because it brings out my beautiful features and I receive good treatment from people. When people give me compliments I accept it without shooting myself in the foot.
at the moment i’m just doing low buns & ponytails
9:55 I love wearing long extensions that texture when I dress up
Oooo there is a Reddit page? I would like to join if so, I love you!
Oh no people were just talking shit about me on Reddit
This is pretty true. Honestly, my dad is very dark-skinned, but his hair is type 2. I have the same hair texture
Exactly. Beauty is more about psychology, brainwashing, programming etc.
Yes.
Where to buy yaki textured synthetic wig?
I usually just go to a black beauty supply store and get the one off the mannequin head . Then if I want to get the exact same one again I order it online
It’s only applies to corporate America guys. Start your own business
This !!! We should all have our own businesses !
Is texturism worse or does texturism also affect lightskined and/or mixed women and not just darkskinned women?
Both . Two things can be true at the same time
🌹
Synthetics are so much easier, they are already styled!
Yep, cause 4C women hate their hair. Some really have beautiful hair. It's the one thing that makes me extremely racially ambiguous. I have no clue what type it is but combination. But on the top going straight down the back, a very loose wave with nonexistent curls. It spikes out straight on the end.
So if you have both texturism and colorism going against you then it’s all bad
And Featurism bc Naomi Campbell and Lupita are considered beautiful ❤️ while Tarana Burke gets slandered.
I don't think it has to do with features but with how they are proportioned on the face. Y'all just have to accept that some people's faces are disproportionate. Symmetry is seen as a beauty feature globally. Some people are simply ugly and that's ok. Stop trying to guilt us into finding everyone beautiful.
Full lips are more acceptable than a very wide and flat nose which in my opinion is valid
Stop putting words in my mouth stop with your BS because I never ever try to guilt trip nobody, I'm speaking facts. People treat people less than and unhuman due to having a bigger nose so shut up please@@totallyvictorious1556
@@totallyvictorious1556stop assuming that I'm trying to guilt trip people. Putting words in my mouth.
@@totallyvictorious1556i assume you feel guilty because you treat people badly if you feel they're not attractive looking. And having a big nose to see if I'm conventionally attractive so stop trying to argue with you and trying to assume that I'm trying to guiltl trip is because you feel guilty for thinking that and people with big noses get longer prison sentences.
