The next upload won't be so academic lol, I hope everyone is doing well
hope you're doing well too, been a minute since I've seen one of your vids and I'm always looking forward to the next one! Cheers.
Great video but should have been 19 minutes shorter.
Ticktock is for you gen Z!
@@Varangian_af_Scaniae I could of made it longer but there was no Subway surfer taking up half of the screen.
I stopped watching when I realized it wasn't a Short. Was it good?
Didn't mean to click on boomer UA-cam 😅
No minecraft parkour? No TTS? Snore.
its as if being still and silent consumes people with dread. even "smart" people take any measures to avoid being left with their own thoughts. a rich, observed inner life is traded for balkanized focus on a plurality of tacky surfaces.
I know it does for me... I spend a ton of time typing out my thoughts now... doing nothing is a waste for me... unless I'm sleeping or I just want to refocus... because I know I've been forced by school and other things that I was almost forced to throwaway about my identity...? Yeah I just have conflicting feelings about sitting still and doing nothing, especially in meditation. What I think I need is more people in my life whom I feel comfortable living with and talking to about whatever... yet I don't have that IRL and need devices to get something resembling that, like in VR in order to encourage me to sit still and in silence VR and IRL... although actually, I don't always need other people to do that, now that it comes to mind... I guess it's all about the environment and your comfort in being in it.
@@land3021nonsense and incoherent.
People should unironically try it, I enjoy being left alone in thought and it's the reason I never drink.
Human mind isn't meant to sit idle...
There's a reason people go crazy in solitary confinement
it's scary to think that our weaknesses are used against us for a quick buck. this channel is becoming one of the few I am excited to see videos in my subscription tab, keep up the good work
The one thing I appreciate about your videos, is the music, and how you apply it. Every time you move to a new sub-topic the music shifts to another song. It never seems like there is an awkward pause between songs, and topics. Most commentary channels would put up a chapter title interrupting the flow of the topic but you do it seamlessly. It's a nice change of pace.
Underrated video. I really need to improve focus and increase productivity
You can do it!
Finally, someone else pointed to the fact that if UA-cam was beholden to our dollars and not the advertiser's dollars l, things would look different around here
Good video, man. You were right, I did learn something. Ironically, maybe related to attention span, but the way your videos play out is so fast its very difficult for me to keep up with what you're saying. I have like no time to process the information lol.
I usually try to be as concise as possible, but I probably should've taken such a dense topic a bit slower
It can help if you reduce the speed of the video or specifically pause the video every so often, repeat or write down what you understood from said section.
Loved your take on this topic. Its not always that a video can make you self-introspect and still be entertaining, I think you achieved both. Thank you for making this, peace.
i hate that im watching this while working on blender. its like this video was recommended to me on purpose
I bought a UA-cam premium subscription several years ago because I was so fed up with seeing ads on youtube, having to wait 30 seconds or a minute or whatever prior to watching any video. I finally decided "nope I'm not watching an ad ever again. I'd seriously rather be out the $15 a month or whatever it is, I don't even care, just so long as I don't have to watch another goddamn ad ever again."
Same but I also love being able to listen or play UA-cam without having to be on the app
This was a really insightful video! This is definitely that I'm actively thinking about it my day to day life and I've always felt that more people should speak on this subject as it is an issue that is growing at a rapid pace and should be addressed appropriately.
Being serious for a second, if everyone signed up for youtube premium it'd become a "not no ads but fewer ads than free youtube" sort of deal.
Great words, Great advice. Despite growing up with social media I've somehow escaped its worst effects, perhaps its due to having passions that pull you away from social media eventually and doing those helps retrain the brain to be well... normal lol
Somewhat an unnerving topic for me, someone who has ADHD and takes medication for it. Attention absolutely is a resource and I’m happy to say at least for myself that when I enjoy an activity I can hyper-focus into it. I don’t know what kind of turmoil I would be in if I didn’t learn strategies to keep focus, especially with so many material things trying to grab our attention.
Also in no way is youtube premium a way around ads, the only true solution is adblock and if they really want people to see ads, they'd have to make them as unintrusive as possible, the reason for adblock getting more and more popular is exactly because youtube tries to force you to watch 18 whole ads in a 40 minute video, with those ads sometimes being multiple hours long with no way to skip them if your hands are busy, adblock skips all of that tedium, and until youtube understands that, it'll only encourage people to use adblock more and more.
The more people use an adblock, the more UA-cam has to aggressively push ads to the people who aren't using an adblock to make up for the lost revenue.
UA-cam Premium is a way to disable ads and it makes sure UA-cam still gets their money for hosting videos. That's why you don't see ads on a service like Netflix, the money is coming from the viewers and not advertisers (therefore, the revenue generated isn't based on how long/often someone watches content.)
If everyone used an adblock, UA-cam wouldn't make any revenue and the platform would die. Adblocks are not a solution, they're a massive threat.
@@GlitchPoachers Wouldn't you agree that AdBlock provides a healthier environment for individual experience?
OP had a good point about predatory ads and UA-cam's lack of empathy regarding this issue.
I don't think premium is a good solution because I've seen what happened with Foxtel incorporating ads into the platform
@@legendaryra3590 For individual experience, yes, but it's not a solution to the problem as a whole. I realize UA-cam may decide to run (a smaller amount of) ads for people paying for Premium down the line, which I hope doesn't happen, but a monthly subscription fee is the most logical way to make UA-cam worry less about watch time and engagement and more about overall user experience, in my opinion.
@@GlitchPoachers I believe the management prior to google was the best solution, before youtubers and viewers became products for marketing purposes.
There was no money to corrupt and the platform was more wholesome with videos succeeding on merit and interest alone.
Becoming more corporate introduced a lot of toxicity and gave absolute power to advertisers as evidenced by the "adpocalypse" which resulted in platform changes and increased censorship to please the advertisers
The problem with reading a lot is eventually you will be reading books from the bottom of the barrel. Like a LitRPG book... lol. Important message tho. Reading is underrated. Thanks, Mr. Glitchy
i would think in today's age there is enough high quality writing for a lifetime. finding it may be another story however. find out who your favorite author's favorite authors are and who their colleagues are in the space that they help promote.
@@peterdweber you shouldn't limit yourself to non-fiction tbh. I started collecting Haynes manuals and medical textbooks, put them on a little bookshelf in the bathroom. Though if you really want to improve your focus, you should be concentrating on defecating lmao.

No wander peoples use adblocker
Guys i admit i was playing subway surfers with this in the backround while also having a netflix movie on the tv in the background (just incase i get bored of my phone) while also eating ice cream on my bed
The didactics get lost in so many ways, it's hard to explain: For me, the need to get a constant flow of information is key for problem solving. Sometimes outsourcing a part or two onto nearby technologies like my phone. Why would my entertainment be different?
You can only do about 4 hours of efficient work a day, any time beyond that can't be reasonably done with 100% efficiency, so if someone has to do 16 hours of work that day, they can likely get the first 4 hours of work done well, but those 12 hours left won't be done as efficiently as those initial 4 hours. I say this because that study of "someone loses 2.1 hours a day to interruptions" acts like humans are capable of even being 100% efficient for the entire day without interruption, when the truth is that those 2.1 hours would likely be lost in other ways if they somehow found ways around the multi-tasking problem.
That's a good point, it is healthy and natural to take breaks. There is a level of social media usage that's fine, but overconsumption and investing too much into it emotionally can lead to serious issues.
Also, its not really losing money when people are not paying attention in their work you have to account for efficiency of work when hiring a person, knowing that they wont be 100% productive. And if the person multitasking gets the job done, is not really a financial loss either.
I'd like to see you poach a glitch sometime.
There really needs to be some laws put in place to reduce the impact of these predatory tactics
Great stuff.
Great content as of late liking these longer more thougfull videos.
Love the Bustin' outro
The channel The Book Leo also made a video similar to this a few months ago and also brought up the dubiousness of the goldfish claim.

I like to think I have a strong attention span but whilst watching this I struggle to not do two things at once
Listening to UA-cam while you go about your chores isn't a problem. Can you focus and get stuff done is the real question
@@WiseOwl_1408 I think trying to do two things at once sounds sexist but Is for woman and in my personal life I can but the question is how well could it off improved and I think most of the time yes if your stuck in traffic or driving there is some argument for it but let’s say your cooking listening to a podcast vs just cooking which dish do you think will be nicer
