  • Welcome to Part III of our Kreg Precision Router Table Build. This is the third part of our series on this router table and we will take care of the one part of this build and setup that has me a bit nervous.
In this video, we will mount the router to the router support plate and drill the holes needed and then install it into the table top. Mounting the router requires drilling some pretty precise holes and then counter sinking them so that they screws don't protrude from the plate and cause interference with any material being passed across the table on its way to the router bit.
In addition, to setting up the plate, I will discuss a few drilling options including freehand, using a drill alignment jig and finally a drill press. I'll also let you know which way I did it and why.

Very well explained. Those are 2 tools I haven't used before. The router and drill press. I'd love to have a drill press!

Thank you. You can get a good drill press cheap. Keep an eye out a garage sales. I got that one for $40. I'm crazy though so I took it apart, painted it with car brake caliper paint, oiled and greased everything and put it back together. It worked just fine of course before I did all that :)

That I do - The kids are getting ready to kick me out. They started building the deck support for their playset. I'll have to do a reverse angle in the next video to show it :)

They should sell the predrilled plates instead of this undrilled version. Because it's called "Precision Router Table"

What's up doc? :). they used to sell the predrilled plates but they stopped. I believe they also used to have the option to drill them for you for a fee. I'm not sure they have that either anymore. Drilling the holes was easier than I thought but if you don't have a drill press it would be a pain.

@@SoWeBoughtaHouse if you plan to use guide bushing, CNC milled plate is much more preferred than self-drilled version. guide bushing need to be perfectly centered

I rarely use a guide bushing so I can’t say I have tons of experience but when I needed it it worked fine but to be honest it was rough template work.

Thanks for the video. A couple questions:
    1) Did you use a standard wood/steel drill bit?
    2) Do you remember the size and type of countersink bit you used?

Hi. I used standard drill bits the same I use for wood and composite. The material is very easy to drill. For the counter sink I apologize but I don’t remember the exact size. I have a cheap set and just measured the head of the screw against it. For this application going a little big on the countersink is ok because you want to make sure the screw stays below the plate so nothing gets hung up on it. I started smaller than I thought and then went up until I found the size that worked. I hope that helps! If you any other question just let me know. I also check my notes from that video and see if I wrote the bit size down.

Thanks for the video! What size screws did you end up using? Where did you get them? Thank you

The desalt used 8-32 screws I bought a box of flat top machine screws that could be countersunk. The instruction manual had the replacement part screw size but if yours doesn’t you can probably find it online or use a screw gauge. I also got square drive one to make them les likely to strip over time. They are nice because it makes it harder for dust to collect in the holes and gives it a nice flush look with less chance of the wood catching as it passes over. Let me know if that answers the question. If not you know where to find me :)
