We have lots of coops in the UK, they all have to be profit driven to exist. 😂

The classic debate of course -- are they prefigurations of socialism or collective capitalists! Or both :)

It should have been subsidized, or preferably run by the state, like everything!!!!!! I'm joking of course. Evidently the cafe owner was too. I say to him, Reform Thyself.

I know the guy who runs that cafe. It’s not actually closing. They were going to but after receiving all the publicity they got a grant from the Canadian Federation of workers cooperatives to turn the café into a cooperative. That was the goal all along, the reason they did it as a sole proprietor at first was because the owner wanted to grow it first so it could provide a living income to any new staff.

Great to hear. That's a really interesting development (that unfortunately will probably be overlooked in all the media nonsense)!

Opening a business is very capitalist. I'm glad their idea worked and removed capitalists from the market.

@@nowtopia Not really. You can open a business that the government set up for you to run in a small town to function as a closed circuit. I grow fruit to barter to the person who fetches water for the town and they trade that for shelter and food to whoever has things they need. That's Communism as well.
