Thanks for this video, I'm glad the awareness on the damage car depency is causing is gaining traction. We're going to be the generation that ends oil's deathgrip on the government.
Ah thank you for your kind comment. I appreciate you being here and just launched a free Patreon yesterday for providing further readings and context on these videos: www.patreon.com/nowtopia
The important part is to built the alternatives like public transport and cycling first, before you kick out cars. If you fail to do that you end up with rich car free gated communities, protected by high real estate prices and keeping out suburbanites by not letting their cars into the city. That happened in France and now it is one of the main reasons suburbs vote fascist
Yes, 100%. It's no surprise that some of the most equitable, affordable and useful public transport systems I've seen have been in post-socialist Europe...It was built for social use from the start
i agree up to a point. car infrastructure actively hinders other modes of transport. so building viable alternatives will require dismantling some of it. there is a balance that can be struck though.
1. Argument regarding publicly funded roads is hypocritical, since suggested alternative is complete dependance on public transportation. As well as this general narrative of leftist argument "you still use public", "you still connected to society": and so what? is doesn't mean we should want more of that. 2. Cars are presented as unnecessary and unaffordable luxury, yet still somehow by the end of the video it appears that it is so widespread that public transport became obsolete. 3. I am not seeing bunch of people around me saying "I wish we had better public transport but unfortunately I have to drive". So as everything degrowth it is about "how to lower living standards yet pretend that we have accomplished opposite"
You have excluded the old, infirmed, the handicapped and the very young. By design my world includes them because they are equal and worthy and deserve our support. I worry that your solution is the final solution.
In no way is any of this excluded. On the contrary, a fragmented, polluting and dangerous car-centric society is far less amenable to helping the old, infirm etc. They are certainly equal and worthy! And let's steer away from that term 'final solution'! Thanks for the comment though.
The problem with your scheme is that it requires everyone to be white collar, metrosexual/homosexual. live in cities, and be in a place where the weather is favorable. You totally forget about people who produce all the stuff you consume
Hi Joe. The people who produce all the stuff we consume are not likely to be living in the suburban car-dependent landscape that this video clearly targets. They have their own challenges to face. It doesn't apply only to cities, and in no way does the weather have to be favorable -- have you ever visited the Netherlands?

If historian had a time machine, he'd going to drive Frans Ferdinand's car.
If urbanist had a time machine, he'd going to kill Henry Ford.

Good to hear from you, and yes, I hope so!
This won’t happen by itself. Only you can make it happen.

Luxury. The riot of the rich.
Is that a quote from somewhere?

I haven’t finished watching but I already feel grateful for this video.
Kind comment! There will be more on this in future...
