Original Compressor video: • What is a Compressor? ...
    Music: Landvetter
Are you pretty sure what a compressor does, but not quite sure how to pick a threshold? Especially if you're only working in Premiere? In this video I try to clear up some confusion about how and what to set your threshold to for nice, smooth, buttery dialogue in premiere pro.

How did you substitute one video for a new one ? Thank you and I hope when my new video drops very soon cough Monday cough cough that you like some of the skill I flexed becaus it was a nightmare to edit because the way it was shot it took too long to to animate a good mask . But its creative as hell and unique . Please and thank you

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love that you don't just give us a bunch of settings and say "hey, do this!" but you actually explain the WHY to use certain settings and HOW they work. This is great because there are no magic settings that work for every circumstance, so it gives us the ability to fine tune settings to our specific situations with the knowledge you have given us. Thanks man! Love this channel.

Curiously enough, I actually used a compressor for the first time in my latest video before coming across this video. I do a lot of audio composition and layering for sound effects, and I'm always stressing about whether or not the music, sfx and dialogue are properly balanced (and whether the whole audio sequence has consistent peaks). Thank you for talking about compression, I believe Premiere's audio tools, though not as complete as Audition's, are very powerful, and should allow for basic audio editing that complements the visuals.

Hi, I'm totally new to editing sound, almost finished my third short film project (outsourced it before). I have a science background, really appreciate your technical explanations, helps me to understand what I am doing. I have worked through the playlist (70 clips!), more like this please!! I have question too, my sound recordist gave me five tracks per clip, is that normal? We had a lav per actor (max of 3 at any one time). Can I separate out the L & R on the one "mixed on set" track to two separate tracks?, Cheers, Mina

Yo!! Yeah that's pretty standard to have five tracks - I bet some of those are "backup" tracks recorded at a lower gain to avoid accidental clipping. Yes the simplest way to do that in Premiere would be duplicate that LR stereo track and add the effect "Fill Right With Left" to the top track, and the opposite "Fill Left with Right" to the bottom. Then instead of stereo LR, you have two mono tracks to work with.

wanted about all the unecesary stuff and note that most people are just extremly impatient for you to cut to the chase. My teeth gnashing went full circle however, stay tuned to find out how.
Whats up everyone!? my name is Jackson welcome to my comment. I come from Rochester NY. I live in Germany. SMASH THAT like button. This comment was brought to you by skyoptionaldotcom, a website for my artwork.
I noticed that I do the exact same thing when I make videos and I'm not even worried about getting views, just perfecting my presence, it's a great tool for self development and a priceless lesson in how to operate your exectutive functions while being under the pressure of the public eye, which is proven to degrade performance in even cockroaches. Also you notice quirks about your presentation which can score you points on any number of life skills. So just like even kind people grimace while swiping on Tinder, here I was muttering under my breath, when I'm even worse. 😖
But I will say that I dont know how to just "open up the compressor", I thought that you have to drag it onto a clip, and you never showed that. And the track mixer window through me for a loop as well, not sure how you get the effect into the track mixer. Sounded like you sped up a little bit when it got to that part.
But great work on the video, your mind is a temple as well as your body 🙏

I read every word and was thankful for the "unnecessary" haha. Begin at the very top of Premiere and select Window --> Audio Track Mixer and it will show you every sequence you currently have open. Select the Sequence you want to mix. The Track mixer is like a console for all of your audio tracks at once, which is not typical for Premiere of course as Premiere is organized in a way that (like you said) finding an effect, and dropping it on an individual clip, is the default. So I'm sure this was a bit unorthodox, but as someone who began his career in Pro Tools, it makes the most sense for me. And then within the Track Mixer window, toggle down the disclosure triangle on the top left to reveal your blank FX Slots, simply click a blank slot and navigate to the compressor plugin there. Hope that helps, and I'm with you on "priceless lesson in how to operate your executive functions while being under the pressure of the public eye" far more important than views for me now.
