I didn't know the beads in face wash were PLASTIC, oh gosh. I just hope other companies catch on and realize that we're wrecking our planet. That's the only way this can get resolved.
I didn't know either ! I started using salt, sugar or apricot core based products because it's more effective and smells better but I never though about that...
Wouldn't it be cheaper for a company to use biological exfoliatiors like salt or sand? I was under the impression that all that plastic is rather costly
The natural exfoliates, exfoliate better than the micro-plastics. Therefore companies often choose the plastics so that people have to use their products even more to get the same effect you would with natural exfoliates. They basically only want you to buy more of their products so that they make more money. As for the price, I'm guessing it would be more expensive to harvest and clean the sand and salt, rather than just producing the plastic. Most plastic isn't really an expensive product either.
Kristin S. Leiros Not exactly, microbeads are used because they can be far more gentle on the skin than salt and other natural exfoliators. It's about skin protection, not keeping you coming back. Even with a non-gentle exfoliator you'd have to come back for more because dead skin cells and oil never stop building up.
Bianca Briteside yes if they use that it would be cheaper but sand and salt don’t feel pleasent on our skin and it probably will be hard to make it good for ski and will cost more so people will say I will buy this one because this one is cheaper and softer etc
Bianca Briteside it is and that is why the big brands like coca cola and fanta use plastic not glass because glass is harder and dearer to buy #listentolush #dosomething
This really made a difference for me. I stopped using drug store products like the neutrogena face scrubs and switched to lush. To me lush feels more natural and earthy in a way, I just love it.
mother of God why is sugar harmful to the skin? i used them as body scrub and it felt amazing!!! please reply.. I'd like to know if it is really harmful to the skin
After watching this video earlier this year, I've completely stopped using anything with microbeads. I was SHOCKED at just how many products I had that contained them - even my toothpaste!!
This is so terrible!! Everyone should watch informative videos such as this. The manufacturing of microbeads need to end. Thank you for bringing this to my awareness, always so phenomenal :)
+Amanah Shaikh that would be so difficult to do, could you imagine having to wash your face while making sure that no beads go down the drain? its easier to just get rid of these beads entirely and just replace them with something natural like salt :)
***** LUSH Cosmetics North America Can you confirm? If we turn in facewash with microbeads in it do we get free 100g of Angels on Bare Skin? If so, does it have to be AoBS or could we choose maybe Herbalism?
Honestly, I love how organic lush is. I have heard about the problem with microbeads, and now that i fully understand, it is so much more meaningful. Thank you for being apart of a fraction of people that care for our planet.
I'm going to go through my facial and body products tonight and if I see any of them contain plastic microbeads they are going into the trash immediately. This video was very informative, thank you guys for your hard work and research.
LUSH Cosmetics North America I would rather save the ocean and the important creatures in it then exfoliate with those nasty plastic beads. :) You're welcome little sea creatures and oceans!
I had no idea those little beads were plastic in my skin products! I will make sure not to buy these anymore. I am partly responsible for ruining the ocean and I'm sorry.Thankyou for waking me up.
I feel terrible we need to clean up the world I'm only 10 but I feel we need to make a difference to this world and fast so thank you lust for being so amazing and spreading awareness of this, for now on I'm only going to use lush face scrubs WHOS WHITH ME ?! ❤️
they know it since a longtime they dont care they are about profit.look here at this album:facebook.com/stella.witt1/media_set?set=a.4744513046252.2184141.1097780262&type=3
you can substitute these plastics for environmentally friendly scrub alternatives, like sea salt, oats, sugar, coffee grounds, or reusable ones like sponges and brushes.
I love how all lush products are so safe and amazing! I don't get why companies can't use oats, coffee grounds, sea salt, or even sugar! They are simple products!
Everytime this video pops up on my account I share it! There's so many alternatives for a body/face scrub! Love love love your morals and how the company fights for this,to stop animal testing, uses natural ingredients, and fair trade.some of the reasons I only buy my body products from you guys! Plus they're all just great quality!!
I hope to become a marine biologist or work with the ocean in some way when i leave school and this video made me cry, people NEED to educate themselves about this major issue to save our marine eco systems
My college professor showed us this video in class and it made me so sad. I've been using micro bead exfoliator for years, here i was using cruelty-free products thinking I was making a difference. I'm so thankful for lush and other organic, cruelty-free, environmental friendly brands. It means the world that you care about our world
However, what do i do with the products I already have? Trashing them would just mean they would end up in lakes anyway :( and you can't recycle liquids?!
This is why I buy from lush. Not only do I absolutely love lush products, but lush is a company that genuinely cares about making the earth a better place and providing healthy and natural products for our bodies. A huge thank you. 😊
I wish I could show everyone in the world this. Everyone needs to know about this. It's so damaging and it's coming back to us! I'm throwing my face soap out and telling everyone about this. This is not okay. Thank you Lush for making us aware of this.
WOW!! I never use those exfoliates, just a small soft facial brush, but its in alot of things, this needs to change and each one of us can make a difference!!!
The US will ban the production of personal care products and cosmetics containing plastic microbeads from July of 2017. The new law, which is aimed at protecting the nation’s waterways, will also ban sales of cosmetics containing microbeads beginning in July of 2018, and over-the-counter drugs containing these plastic particles by July of 2019.
This video is eye-opening, I think that a lot of people didn't know that an insignificant exfoliator or toothpaste could commit such damages. Great video
If you really want an exfoliant with no plastics, use St. Ive's "Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub." The exfoliants are 100% natural. I think there's a green tea scented one as well.
I love this video. I keep watching over and over! I told my cousin about it and she tweeted about it and signed the petition. I even told my sister about it and she used it for her science project which she needed an environmental issue and created a poster which looks great. I hope it motivates a lot of people just as much as it did for me!
Jennifer Wood Thank you so much for spreading the word, Jennifer! We're so glad you're as passionate as we are about our oceans - it sounds like you've made quite a difference already!
I had no idea what those beads were in the face scrub. I'm going through all my facial scrubs tonight to see if any of them contain microbeads and throw them away.
+Silver Fox you could pass the product through a sieve and then recycle the beads instead of throwing them away. i'm sure they're gone now, since this reply is two months late, but for anyone else wondering what to do: this is a possible solution
I'm loving the Life's a Beach scrub, it smells so wonderful and does a great job of gently exfoliating. Thank you guys so much for making these excellent alternatives to microbeads. I'm happy to be a part of the solution :-)
Oh wow I had no idea that is what those little beads were in the face washes I used to use! Luckily I switched over to lush face washes and scrubs a while ago, but I will be looking through the other products I haven't thrown away and see if they contain microbeads. What a shame to see our oceans and other bodies of water being polluted like this.
Someone left a review on a Sephora product stating that she would not recommend the product bc it contains microbeads which are bad for the ocean and fish. That is how I became interested in this subject. I think we can make more people aware of this problem if we all do the same. So many people read reviews, it might be a good way to spread this information to those who do not already know about it! I was so glad that someone made me aware of the issue! Now I will never use a product with microbeads again. On a related note, I do not buy scrubs at all anymore. I use a little rubber/silicone pad with little nubs on it and I wash with a scrub-free wash. Same effect as a scrub. Super soft skin and more gentle than my clarisonic. I bought it for $5 and I have had the same one for over a year. I believe l'oreal makes a face wash that includes the same type of thing for free. I hope everyone will at least try a scrubber like this, you'll never be tempted by microbead scrubs again.
Beth CK While we try to avoid throwing anything directly in the trash wherever possible, it is the best case for products containing microbeads - this way, the beads stay in their container and are prevented from entering our waterways.
Wow I just took a shower and used a face wash that has those plastic beads and I never knew about this I'm so glad I watched this video this needs to be shared to everyone!!!!
thank you so much for this info! I'm definitely not going to repurchase any products that contain microbeads and everything I own that has them are going to the trash!!!! And I'm sharing this 'cause we have to spread the message and the most important thing that you mentioned was that we have the "purchasing power" and that is so true so let's work to make a change!!!!
As a scuba diver this breaks my heart... I find litter almost everytime I go diving and the damage is terrible what it's does to the animals and reefs. This is why I love lush, they care about how their products effect not only the consumer but also the environment. Question for lush- can I bring my empty conditioner bottles for you to reuse?
+Happy:) Thank you so much for supporting us and the oceans! We definitely need them and they are integral to our survival. You can definitely return your conditioner bottles for proper recycling at any of our Lush shops.
LUSH Cosmetics North America lush, can you make a how it's made video on Golden wonder? and more how it's made videos in general for people like me to share for more promotion for the coming holiday season? I'd love to share them to my social media outlets. :)
I was on vacation during the holidays and was walking along the beach trying to collect some seashells. I found some colourful bits I thought were pieces of seashells, but upon closer inspection I discovered it was a pile of plastic bits. It made me so sad. Please don't pollute the beautiful ocean, take care of it! Thank you so much for this video, because I think a lot of us assume that the microbeads in cleansers dissolve or melt away, when in fact they don't :(
i didnt know you used so many good for the enviroment materials, im so glad! i love the views you have about animals and enviroment thankyou for sharing this and raising awarness

Read about this a few years ago and immediately switched to St. Ives Apricot Scrub, works great for me. It uses ground up walnut shells as the exfoliant.
+Martha M Thank you so much for watching! Since this campaign has begun, we've seen some amazing strides, including upcoming bans on microbeads in Canada and the US; we're so happy to see signs of positive change in the world!
+LUSH Cosmetics North America this is great... And that campaign will only do that in the United States and Canada, or is it going to be like a worldwide thing?
Hi love - it does all add up! That's why we prefer to use natural exfoliates that are bio-degradable in our products. Thank you for feeling so passionate about keeping our earth healthy - say no to micro-plastics! ❤️
as a cashier, I was shocked to see brand name companies use these a customer was scared by my reaction so I had to explain she was furious at me then called me a "whimp" 😟
Back then I didn't think it was a huge deal until one day I went to the beach and saw multicolored spheres and I was terrified, I started using more natural face scrubs like Ocean Salt or Dark Angels, and AHA exfoliates.
I didn't know the beads in face wash were PLASTIC, oh gosh. I just hope other companies catch on and realize that we're wrecking our planet. That's the only way this can get resolved.
I was just thinking the same! I freaked out!
I didn't know either ! I started using salt, sugar or apricot core based products because it's more effective and smells better but I never though about that...
There's a law that states starting in 2017, microbeads will be banned in the use of cosmetics.

Kaylee Conway those are harmful to your skin
mother of God why is sugar harmful to the skin? i used them as body scrub and it felt amazing!!! please reply.. I'd like to know if it is really harmful to the skin
Microbeads and plastic shopping bags should be banned world wide. We will only be the demise of ourselves if we don't try to fix the situation.

you can substitute these plastics for environmentally friendly scrub alternatives, like sea salt, oats, sugar, coffee grounds, or reusable ones like sponges and brushes.
Good news! All of Lush's exfoliating ingredients are all biodegradable in nature! 😊
LUSH Cosmetics North America i know, huge fan of your products:)))
Wow... I had no idea how harmful microbeads are... I feel really guilty, thank you Lush for showing us the truth.

I actually think that they are passing a law that ends manufacturing microbeads, but it won't be in effect for a few years.

Read about this a few years ago and immediately switched to St. Ives Apricot Scrub, works great for me. It uses ground up walnut shells as the exfoliant.
This is so eye opening... And I'm crying
This hit me deep. It made me realise that once it's in the ocean it's there forever
Hi love - it does all add up! That's why we prefer to use natural exfoliates that are bio-degradable in our products. Thank you for feeling so passionate about keeping our earth healthy - say no to micro-plastics! ❤️
wow. still so prevalent today. makes me wonder how much more there is 9 years later. lush has always been so aware
This is just amazing, Thank you lush!
Thank you so much for watching! 💚
as a cashier, I was shocked to see brand name companies use these
a customer was scared by my reaction so I had to explain
she was furious at me then called me a "whimp" 😟
I have an exfoliating scrub made with crushed apricot kernels. It's pretty cheap, but I've only been able to find the stuff in the netherlands.
This is brilliant!! Xx
Ahhhh another reason to love LUSH products
Yeah. They are so amazing and it's worth the extra 1-2-3 ish dollars.

I love how it came up for “shop for micro beads”
Thank you.
Oh wow..... That's so much. I do not ever want to use anything like this
On twitter and Facebook write #banthebead to help Lush
Back then I didn't think it was a huge deal until one day I went to the beach and saw multicolored spheres and I was terrified, I started using more natural face scrubs like Ocean Salt or Dark Angels, and AHA exfoliates.
I threw away 3 different soaps I normally used after this. thank you for informing me!
