Somebody gifted me once a c64 game collection cd with basically Cybernoid, Turrican, +150 bad homebrew games and this. It's amazing how long you can play a game, just because it has great music.
This tune, together with a handful of others written by JT, was a square 15 years ahead of its time. No surprise dozens of electro and R&B producers have dug long and deep into this style.
I looked up a C64 longplay video of the game, that's really impressive, but feels a little slow. This groovy tune shakes that up extremely, I love this.
@@shaunbebbington6411 That assumption would be a huge mistake; I've heard hundreds on hundreds of tunes combined - across C64, NES, Gameboy, keygens, Genesis, since the days they started to appear on UA-cam, circa 2008/2009 - and before that was the few but great cartridges I had the privilege to enjoy from all the way back in 1994, when I was 4 and got an NES ⭐✨ 2021 was by far my most insane year Chiptune-wise; that's when I found "The epic commodore 64 collection" (what was it now again - 70 tunes / 10 hours?), and listened to it an absolutely eyepopping amount of times over throughout the year - and from there the UA-cam algorithm started recommending even more tunes - it was absolutely awesome! 😸🚀 Soo yea, now you know; here you have a proper chipmusic-nerd! 👍✌️
@@XFAiDERse It would be very difficult for me to choose the best chip tune. Where to start. Eliminator? Monty on the Run? Robocop III? Delta in game? Arcade Classics? Parallax? Ghouls n Ghosts title music? I could name many more. Too many to choose from and I can't decide which is best. But I know excellent, creative and talented musicians when I hear them. Music for me is very much of what mood I'm in, so the best would depend on the day.
Why are there a disproportionate amount of composers for the C64 named "Jeroen"? At least, in my music collection. Or, maybe I just want it to be like that, because Jeroen is one sick ass name. Also, Jeroen Tel is a genius when it comes to C64 soundtracks. I love this man.
Is this a compliment to this song or an insult I can't tell, since this is the Commodore 64 version Maybe they're all the same and I'm just uninformed I had looked for them a while ago and didn't find anything but I looked now and they don't seem to be alike
@@yoyoshi64 well the rather excellent and funky C64 piece is different to the shorter ST and Amiga versions which feature a more uniquely formed identifiable melody. They are very different and I'd guess the C64 version is the most popular thanks to typically accomplished bass and arpeggio from the master of that style Jeroen Tel but some like myself prefer the identifiable theme from the 16bit versions even if it's not especially funky. The C64 version is incredibly technically done for sure though

I've had this stuck in my head for years and I'm glad I finally found the game it belonged it.
this guy is a master. final boss of chiptune
best description of JT ever
I came here from a Tim Follin track and I'm certainly not disappointed. Man this is crunchy
Unbelievable. Listened to this today while visiting a place I grew up in, and the music transported me in an incredible way.
Nice !!! Bass line

There may just be a lot of ones starting with J
"How long can we make instrumental menu music on a primitive console?"
Jeroen Tel: "Yes"
Dat bass!!
I love this song
back at it with the lp square hybrid
this is fire ngl
funk at its finest!

love the original ST and amiga pieces

Nice theme >:]
Superrr
The bass somehows reminds me of Daft Punk's Harder Faster Stronger....
or the other way round :-D
@ 1:25 - 2:25 it reminds me of that one part from the introduction of Hot Rod on the C64
The longest 7.5 minutes of my entire life
Tuuuune!
kool
pupper approves once again
I recomend you listen this on 1.25x
this is the ideal tune to ask ... can a remix beat the original ?
the last part is very reminiscent of Thriller
where are you jeroen?
Right here. 🙂
I'm surprised one of Jeroen's in-game themes uses all 3 channels? Does the game have no sound effects or something?
Maybe the least important channel gets interrupted for the sound effects.
@@oscwavcommentaccount That's standard, but his other in-game soundtracks seem to leave at least a single channel free.
There doesn't seem to be any ingame SFX.
who needs sound effects, when you have this tune?
