There's a pair of ospreys that nest on a hydro pole along the road my dad took to work. They've been set up there for years and every year, they come back to the same nest and raise a pair of chicks. I always liked seeing how they were doing in the summer, when I'd go along with him to tend to the garden at his workplace. My dad affectionately named the couple Oscar and Esther.
Thank you for all the information and for this great video. I love ospreys. What humans did to them is disgusting. I am so happy to hear that their numbers have risen again.
Did they raise and fledge any young at this nest during the season? Sorry, I just saw your next video listed and will watch to see what happened. Thanks.
Because the platform is in the water (in part to deter land-based predators), it is not easy to reach for repairs. Once the pair of Ospreys returned to the site and began their nesting activity, any attempt to fix the nest would have disturbed the birds. It is possible that after the nesting season is finished, someone might try to straighten the pole.
William Young I certainly hope someone fixes that platform! The Ospreys will almost certainly keep using that nest and it would be tragic if the whole thing collapsed with babies in it.
The magnificent Osprey! My favourite bird!

very enjoyable video. you covered anatomy, physiology, ecology of Osprey. Can your narration be slightly slower, not to sound hurried ?
Great video! Wonder if there will be any efforts to straighten the love nest?
