This is where character arcs are fun and important. Naofumi is the "wronged protagonist" that has to overcome all the obstacles and figure out how to overcome his shortcomings. None of the MC boys are technically great guys, because Naofumi is a neet that only did so much and didn't seem to venture out of his comfort zone. He was also WAY easier to manipulate. Like, I understand that the butt-hole girl was really good at fooling him, but man did it feel off at how he didn't at least find out who she was or (at least) lock his room when he went to sleep. He learned his lessons way earlier than the other three and grew faster because of them.
Ren seems to be learning from his mistakes and is starting to grow.
Itsuki is taking some time to get going, but he's getting their.
And Motoyasu is gonna need a complete redemption arc to help him. Not sure why the writer didn't let him grow after seeing the Princess is nothing but a liar that used him. I know he thought he might had finally found "the one" with her (probably) but common, at least give him something to work off of. I feel so bad the one guy (that's been used) is also being hated on.
So its official. Motoyasu is the main character from school days reincarnated.

In fact he had many girfriends before and they're all still friend and still in contact with him even after breaking up. He doesn't cheat and hates hurting girl's feelings.

1.The girls that malty kicked out were either abused by them till they left or and this is the creepy bit sold into sex slavery as is implied by one of the short stories in the back of the book. Motoyasu never figured this out. also 2 of the girls that are malty's primary subordinates the one is malty's toady but the other knows what she is and simply acts below her because she knows what malty will do and is in the party mainly for the exp and fun.
2. Motoyasu and the other heroes can't read this worlds script as such he can't read things like the warning about the seed when he when to get it he knew of it however from emerald online having this as a quest.
3. in the web novel version of the story he gets a spear that lets him "travel" in time and he alters history, but not really it only creates alternate dimension that isnt really a world but it allows him to see what could have been. But it doesn't alter the primary worlds history or the chain of events so is not actual time travel
The time travel spear is best way to describe why heroes actually so op, but they just too stupid to get to this level.

it's not different, it's a spin off that takes place after he get kicked by Malty in volume 11 in the light novel, he gets super depressed and then Filo tries to cheer him up. After that he is obsessed with Filo and sees other women as pigs. Also, he calls Naofumi "father" and always askes Naofumi to let him marries Filo

The ironic thing is, if Myne never came into the picture, Spear Moron likely would have gotten along with Naofumi. The Legendary Spear chooses a wielder who has strong loyalty to their friends. Only problem is, Motoyasu exhibits blind loyalty to the point of ridiculousness. Remove pretty girls from the room and he's actually the least insufferable.

Spoiler, both for me and for anyone who hasn't read the manga of "the rising of the shield hero" and, excluding me, the light novel and novel of the said title. Another fact is that there's a spin-off manga having motoyasu as the main protagonist where he acquired a spear that let's him go back in time to the point where he was first summoned everytime one of the 4 heroes, even himself, dies. In that story the main changes are the following: 1) naofumi's personality remained as when he was first introduced, kind, warm and gentle, and didn't undergo a harsh treatment alone without any help. 2) because naofumi is not distrusting of humanity, he didn't need any slave so raphtalia is not traveling with motoyasu and naofumi. 3) since motoyasu is the protagonist, and still one of the 4 cardinal heroes, filo is not travelling with them, but another fitoria. Also Éclair is travelling with them way early in the timeline, opposed from the main story.
These are the latest information I know so far. To know more read that spin-off manga made by the same author of "the rising of the shield hero"

WN and LN versions of his death are a little different. LN version has him get stabbed less (just twice, the girls end up in a knife fight afterward over who gets to stab him in the neck), and Momiji and Ikuyo have been aware for some time already that he's involved with both of them and even dating other girls as well. He's already broken up multiple less psycho incidents between them prior to Ikuyo demanding he make up his mind about one girl to commit to, and finds it vexing that their inability to get along prevents him from being able to take them on group dates.

Well he does seem to be a genuinely friendly dude when women aren't involved. Hell I could see him and Naofumi getting along in a different life.
His freindship with L'arc is proof naofumi actually does get along well with the openly friendly types.
Other facts:
- Motoyasu is one of the two heroes who is good at cooking, the other is Naofumi. Motoyasu enjoys cooking for girls.
- - Malty and her two peons are the only characters who do not like Motoyasu's cooking because they believe it's "poor people food from another world." They also constantly mock Motoyasu behind his back, calling him creepy and stupid, especially Malty.
Motoyasu is also probably the most "traditional" of the four heroes. Ren being for the most part a full on murder hobo and Itsuki doing the whole hero in the shadows bit. He could also be argued to represent the heavenly virtue of charity as (at least in the LNs) he has a tendency to simply help others just because there's a problem. Of course this is somewhat clouded by his constant skirt chasing and his delusion that he's in an MMO. It kind of dovetails with his two vices being envy and lust.

Of all the three "Cardinal Stooges", I think Motoyasu, by far, made the most development at this point.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!
Later in the novels, all the heroes (bar the Shield Hero, of course) become broken husks of men, their respective curse series impede them so much, they barely function as aventurers at all. It is at this point, that Motoyasu's character turns 180, his curse causes him to see all women as pigs (literally, to him they look like Marco from Kurenai no Buta). Only women of uncorruptible character, such as Raphtalia, appear normal, also fillolials take a form of cute little girls (not unlike Filo's human form) in his eyes. It is due to these circumstances, that Motoyasu stops trusting women blindly, becomes much more open-minded and unassuming, he also learns to respect and admire Naofumi, though in part, it is due to him being Filo's "Father". And, yes, Motoyasu's weird infatuation with Filo has not disappeared, more than that, it is stronger than even, due to Filo being the one to help restore his shattered psyche, when he pretty much hit the rock bottom.
Y’all need the read the LNs he’s gets a hugh character development so much that he is actually shown to be the strongest of the 4.

There's also a fact that some of his old female party members were forced to leave via being sold as sex slaves. For instance, his old party member Rino, there was even a time when Motayasu heard her calling for help when she was being raped, and the spear hero ignored her convinced that it couldn't be the same person and that the rape was just them roleplaying.
After reading in the LN, I kinda feel bad for the guy, especially after what happened to the other 3 heroes. Naofumi's the reverse of the other 3 and that's what I will say to prevent other spoilers.

Shield Hero Season 2 & 3: The two girls from Motoyasu’s backstory, appear in the world and hunt him down.
i feel a little bad for him, just a little bit. (like a little little teeny tiny bit).
Torché don't he gets his own Spinoff where he gets to stop Melty before her plan starts and gets to lead the heroes alongside Naofumi and his companions on a new adventure. It's not quite as good as Sheild hero but it is still a pretty good story of what if you could fix your past mistakes.
That spinoff actually made me like the spear hero. He somehow became more savage than naofumi due to his current personality
Ryan Williams Well he did die and have to deal with the guilt of all his mistakes from the first timeline so of course he's going to become more savage! Truth be told I think all 4 heroes should each get a story dedicated to them with each seeing them overcoming their flaws and weaknesses. Sheild had to overcome his spite andprove again again he's a good person to the people to prove his innocence and take down the corrupt individuals that ruined his life.
Spear got a second chance and he now has to use that chance to learn from his mistakes and grow into the hero he wants to be instead of believing being given a magic spear makes him a hero.
What Sword and Bow's tales should be about IDK but I do think it be interesting if they all got a tale of their own.
He proteccs Naofumi in The Reprise as much as he can. He won't hesitate to kill for Naofumi.

His spear has a hidden ability. Each time Motoyasu dies, he ends up revived and has to start over from the exact moment he was summoned and given the spear.
That's actually a feature that comes from the weapon curses but he needs to die first i think (basically if one of the others die before him he can't return)
Please do Ren or Itzuki. It'd be cool learning more about their backstory and mindset since we probably aren't going to get a lot until season 2.

BTW I knew Motoyasu died in a bit of a School Days fashion, but this is the first time I really heard the details. Man that was dark. Really makes how he pretty much shoved Rishia and her problems onto Naofumi seem less of him being a wimp and more of someone just trying not to meet the same end twice. The dude is still a moron and I feel no pity towards him in terms of his stupidity and other crap catching up with him, but I can't deny that there's a layer or 2 more to his character than just being an incredibly dumb skirt chaser and I appreciate that.

Wow the fact that he has a weapon which can be used to attack and he fights with the two other heroes but still loses to Naofumi, aka the one with a shield and has less attack skill than him
From what I found is basically, due to what happened he developed a phobia of violent women (yanderes), which caused him to never do things that would anger them and believe anything a woman says without any shred of evidence, as well as to refuse to accept anything that would be bad for his image.
One prime example of this, (WARNING: While I doubt I'm spoiling anything in regards to the anime, should be wary if reading the light novel)

As I said one prime example is of a former team-mate of his, you see, Sl*t (Myne) and other would not only kick the other other women out but have actually sold one to a slave trader, at least one that we know off.
Her name was Rino and Motoyasu convinced her to join his group, unfortunately she was was tricked by Sl*t (Myne) and sold as sex-slave.
The sad thing is, is that Motoyasu was walking by a room where she was with a "customer", Rino seeing shouted his name for help, but due to his condition and refusal to believe his comrades would've sold her as a slave, he just assume it was someone who sounded like Rino and it was just a prostitute who was role playing.
Unfortunately that's where the other left Rino, as a side story of the light novel, never to be referenced again as far as I know.

Unlike the other party members, she genuinely liked Motoyasu. She was not bothered by his interest in other women and considered it normal for men to have pleasure. She went along with Malty to secure her place in his party. But she couldn't digest his rash and irrational behaviors. She also didn't like how he used her and other women as a status symbol. Finally, she had had enough of being in his party and abandoned him, after seeing that he was unable to do anything against the Spirit Tortoise. To save herself from crown's capital punishment, she sold out Motoyasu and told all of his flaws to his face, much to the latter's dismay.
You forgot the best part *more spoilers* Motoyasu ends up unlocking the lust series for his spear and now only sees all women as pigs- the only exceptions being any fillolials and Eclair ( I probably spelled that wrong!)
His spin off series is actually very interesting.

Rino is actually the one who killed Myne in the LN (the queen basically saved Rino from slavery and then took her in and trained her as one of her shadows who then went and killed Myne after her betrayal of the kingdom)
Motoyasu is the oldest but is definitely the most Childest and second childest is Itsuki

Well, his origin story definitely surprised me...But I guess it is true, sometimes not even death can change a person. I mean you'd think he'd more careful with women and stop being a player after that.
Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't feel pity for him and am a bit cynical about him being redeemed. Come to think of it...why didn't his yandere trauma trigger when Myne came to him acting upset and crying rape? He ditched Rishia because she was more or less acting the same way (just minus the false accusations and scheming).

Yeah if you read the LN, you really see the good traits of Moto. I think he's the better of the 3 heroes after seeing all the stupid shit of Bow and Sword Heroes.

Maybe a kick in the nuts a few times but to be stabbed to death and to potentially die right next to the ladies who killed him and themselves...
