    The story behind the invention of slap was actually when the drummer didn't show up at a performance, causing Larry to use a new percussive technique in the place of him.

    • @blaisemacpherson7637
      @blaisemacpherson7637 4 місяці тому

      That did look like it might have been a double bass but that style is more commonly played on the tololoche which is slightly smaller than the English double bass. The real kick is it the tololoche uses fat nylon Spanish strings that make the tone a little softer and the slap a little harder. Definitely UA-cam tololoche. If you liked the bad here you will love tololoche.

    The upright slap bass was used in Johnny Cash's early songs he recorded at Sun Records. The original Folsom Prison Blues is my favorite of his and the slap bass as the beat was one of the main reasons why.

    • @blaisemacpherson7637
      @blaisemacpherson7637 4 місяці тому

      YES and it sounded awesome. Slap upright is making a comeback in regional Mexican music (deceptive genre name as most of it is recorded in the US). But they use what's called a tololoche. It's like an English double bass but smaller, probably for Spanish orchestras. It has nylon strings and has a little softer fuller tone when plucked and a SERIOUS slap
