Hey Willie The prices at the grocery store are quite reasonable and the quality of the fresh produce seems really good since Madeira has a warm climate i assume most of the fruits and veggies grow on the island It certainly is an affordable place to visit .I'm loving the Madeira content man Keep it up brother 🔥🔥🔥👊
Cheers my friend, appreciate your engagement and comment as always! The quality of the fruit in Funchal certainly was something I noticed as well. As the seller explained, they do have both Brazilian and Madeiran papaya, and he prefers the latter. I was not really sure what to expect in terms of the supermarket prices but definitely some items seemed reasonable. Hope all is well on your side!
Hi Willie, been awhile since i have seen any of your videos. I really enjoyed this one and learning of the prices; sounds like it is a great place to holiday. Thank you: KIwi from Virginia.
Great to hear from you Swanoaks! Hope all is well on your side. Glad to hear it is informative, let's hope it also helps prospective visitors to this part of the world on what to expect price-wise!
Thanks Willie, really interesting. I last visited Madeira in 1995 and the big shopping centre was not around back then, so things seem to have changed a bit! Hoping to visit again next year, so your video gave a good idea of prices today.
Very informative and comprehensive vlog, Willie, for anyone looking to visit Madeira! Certainly wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be for some items. I liked the look of the honey, rum and mandarin Poncha, I have to say😂. So much choice everywhere too.
Glad you enjoyed it Sheila! Hopefully this is a useful watch for others who want to visit Madeira. The Poncha is an iconic Madeiran tipple, but I've heard some mixed reviews. Most say you should really drink it fresh but the bottled version does look like a bit of a bargain. Hope you are staying warm, it is getting cold here in England!
@@willieexplore well, it was -5° up here yesterday. A bit "warmer" today but that brought some heavy snowfall overnight, about 3/4 inches! Can't really complain though, typical December😀❄️
I’m in LA, these prices look great in comparison. We were planning a trip to Spain as a family for summer 2025, but apparently they don’t like/want tourists coming to their cities. Im going to show my family your Madeira videos, it seems to be a better fit for us. Are locals ok with tourists? Everyone seems quite welcoming so far. We aren’t loud, and we generally only drink with dinner.
Hi there! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Madeira is a very welcoming island in my experience. Have a great time, whichever destination you end up visiting!
We have visited Madeira several times and are going again shortly. Prices have always seemed very reasonable, although of course there are high end restaurants which are expensive.
Generally Madeira is less cost than UK for food forget UK type food such as chocolate stick to domestic and Portugal mainland products, for example Portuguise wine in the supermarket is great value. I go twice a year and find the value and place good . Thanks for the video
A euro for a cappuccino! €1,50 for a custard tart and coffee! *books flights immediately* natural juices look value for money too. I'm not surprised international chains are expensive, I guess things need to be imported as you say. Pretty sure everything in the supermarket that had been imported was more expensive than UK, which is understandable. Fish fillets and bananas, interesting. The cafeterias seem great value for money there €2.50 for the toastie 😍 I'm guessing the UK climate isn't suitable for proteas? Love all the little bits of artwork. The chocolate didn't hit as well as the Brisa eh 😂
Haha yes some of those cappuccino prices were unbelievable! I definitely got the sense that many imported goods were on the expensive side though. It is very hard to beat the Brisa in Madeira, let me tell you!
It is not expensive because you are not in a tourist area. You’re in the regular area where regular people go but of course if you go to a tourist area, then the price is very high and you will get scammed. My advice is always pay with cash. don’t use your credit card when you are out of your own country. Greetings from Canada.
Thanks Adel. I did visit some "touristy" areas too in this video, showing some restaurant prices. But yes, I tried to show with my video that, as you say, the non-touristy areas are affordable. Thanks for watching!
Madeira. A great Place to visit. I made it . 7 Visits last 20 years. Top Video. Well Done. Greeting from Germany
Danke, Juergen! It was my first visit but I can see myself going back again :)
Great video. Very informative and nice to watch a different perspective rather than the same old tourist spots. Well done 😊
Really appreciate your kind words! Delighted that you enjoyed it and hope you get a chance to watch some of my other content :)
Very helpful -- Might consider Madeira -- thanks so much!
My pleasure, Billy! Cheers for watching - hope you get there soon :)

@@willieexploreYes sir everything is ok Thank's for asking
Interesting how similar the supermarket items are to those in South Africa. Great video, mate! Keep it up.
Lots of South Africans in Madeira, Jasper! Cheers for watching!
Once again enjoyed your video Willie: really enjoyed the sights. Thank you Kiwi from Virginia.
Always a pleasure and a privilege Swanoaks, glad you enjoyed it!

Really pleased to hear that! Hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the 1 Euro cappuccinos! :)
Willie awesome video looks well balanced exclamation about cost of living and of towards creating costs of expensive than of other countries thanks!
Cheers Simon, always a pleasure! Appreciate the kind words

@@willieexplore yes, I read that the South had some pretty cold weather too. We actually had -9° last year, not at that stage...yet!

Thanks for watching! I definitely think it is great value if you know where to go, and I can see why you back so often!
Seems like madeira is great for their cuisines and seafood delicacies and I noticed the weather is a bit gloomy but no rain
Definitely a place for seafood lovers and yes the weather was a bit cloudy during that time of the year
Just got back from Madiera the craft beer in some of the bars were extortionate..9 Euro for 330ml bottle 👍video subscribed cheers 🍺🍺🍺
Cheers for the support! Wow 9 Euros is ridiculous haha

Yeah, but Milka is better chocolate than Cadbury, and seemed to be a much better price.
Cadbury is better in my opinion but thanks for watching :)
