Swimming the English Channel is a similar distance with dangerous currents.
Same with the swim from the coast of Rhode Island to Block Island
This has to be one of the toughest challenges ever...Talk about physical conditioning...not like you can just decide to really stop and take a smoke break...
Treading water while eating a protein chewy bar on your back and getting stung by jellyfish does not sound enjoyable.
Cold, if you are in tropical waters, a boat is surely needed. Irikani jelly fish are deadly. Mostly found around reefs in warm water: Australia, etc. Fairly deep water. Divers, snorklers, are more likely to contact them. Very small. Google the small, but bad boy.

Daniel, takes practice by the tons. I believe that of the known people who tried to swim from Cuba, to Key West, Fl. Only one has finished it. 96 miles. Man, I'd need a two hour break before swimming back.

Appreciate it is unbelievably hard and dangerous but any waters with sharks is harder, try swimming for 18 hours in South Africa or Australia, game over.
Add saltwater crocs, box jellyfish and irukandji.
There are many species of sharks in there, including Great White. Scotland has the largest seal population in Europe. Plenty of food and perfect water temps, you bet they're in there.

No way. I love swimming and can swim for long distances but the water there is grey and the weather often foul. Not a challenge I would recommend to anyone.
Any body of water around here is bound to be filled with sewerage. That would be my number one for not doing it. Swim in the third world at your own peril.
