I’m a 30 yr old man and a naturally very strong swimmer, and I take my hat off to this lady completely. My fear of sharks (probably irrational) is such that I can barely swim a few metres outside the buoys even in the Mediterranean Sea without imagining a huge set of jaws flying at me from out of nowhere! 😂 Absolutely paralysing, never in a million years would I have the bottle to do this.

Was a lifeguard from age 16-26 off and on until I got into IT. I remember going to the Coast Guard and Navy recruiter with hopes of becoming a rescue swimmer (of course "The Guardian) shaped those prospects. No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, the Ocean IS a different beast! The fear of the unknown 😫😫
Shark attacks are so prevalent...I can't even enter the beach without thinking of them. When I go jet skiing and everyone jump into the water mid tour...NOPE. Not me! Big ups to this brave woman. I wish her nothing nothing but longevity. Hope she stays safe

Thank you service as a lifeguard and for your comment. Shark attacks ARE prevalent. People have to remember that the data on shark attacks are REPORTED attacks and the majority of that data is collected from the U.S. and Australia. This video proves that sharks actively hunt and stalk humans. There is a CLEAR pattern of them singling people out who are alone and/or in small groups. The same predatory way they do to their usual sea prey.

It was probably swimming for hours or days without seeing anything. Its unlikely its just gonna leave. I'd be scared shitless of another one or two sharks close by that have yet to be seen.

Basically sizing up the prey and preparing an angle. There is footage somewhere here on YT of the attack. The diver lost their entire calf muscle.
What pissed me off is there were other divers all around just casually watching this shark puffing up , circling .

Sonya Scott tapping the shark with the ore would most likely scare the shark off. They don’t want to work harder for their food if they don’t need to. The moment something starts to put up a fight it is no longer worth it for it then to engage. And forget it if they’re curious about something they’ll just leave it alone if it starts stabbing them lol.
