Hey, got a few tips (trying to keep them spoiler-free)
1) Those fish that run out and explode by *crash* ing into you ... do I need to say more?
2) There's a bug that eats everything you put into floating lockers. Use the main locker in your lifepod (if you face the fabricator it's on your left) and the lockers inside your base when you get a habitat builder
3) You swim faster with two hands (holster your equipment / fish for better move speed)
4) You can also enter / exit the lifepod from the hatch at the base of the ladder.
That's it for now, hope you find this info useful! Oh, and the explosion is pretty cool, haha. You took the safe route though, based on available information.
