Optimization is my main gripe this gen,so many games spoilt with ghosting around main character and objects mainly caused by poor taa optimization and upscaling
It often comes down to accessibility done wrong. With publishers wanting more sales studios oversimplify core gameplay loops to the smallest common denominator. They are scared of offending average Joe and Jane who might need to follow a learning curve to understand and experience great games. Still a game for everyone is a game for no one.
Great video. I am also sick of forced diversity nonsense in western games. Its sadly even being adopted by some japanese studios like Square Enix. I was so excited for an Assassin's Creed game set in Japan for years but Ubisoft had to ruin it with pandering nonsense. Yasuke might be a real historical person but literally NO ONE asked to play as him. We just wanted to paly as a cool japanese samurai. Or they should have just made the female ninja the only character. Also great point about art style mattering more than graphics. Its why i find older games more appealing than new ones. What good is realistic graphics if the female designs are being made ugly. Meanwhile PS2 or PS3 era games look more appealing to me because they designed characters better then.
The PS2 and PS3 era was something else when it came to design, very cool characters and awesome art style. That's why that era has games that are still playable
I think people just want to complain. Nobody ASKED for Ezio either, but they still made him and playing as him was great! Nobody asked for Mario, Lara Croft or Spyro either, but those are classic IPs. Developers don't have to make what people ASK for, they should make something good and fun. People are too focused on trying to find a message, instead of asking "Is the gameplay and story good?". "Forced diversity" is a modern take, and if this game had an original that was released 15 years ago, and this new game was a remake, none of you would've complained. I think we should enjoy well-made titles that are entertaining, and not focus on whether or not they align with our personal opinions. I'm not pro war, but that never stopped me from playing an FPS...
@@Zeverinsen the problem is that most of these games are not good, why focus on minor things when major things like gameplay and story are far more important.
It's bad because publishers see us as pigs who will consume anything regardless of quality. And they are right at that because normies still buy mediocre 70$ slop and microtransactions.
i ended up stumbeling on this video and man that's awesome. Sometime I wonder if there will be a second video game crash like the one in 1983. With how greedy the video game industry continue it would not even surprise me. Anyway amazing video :)
Because games companies are full of people that don't know how to make games? I remember back when games studios were comprised of a small team of young lads that had a vision and wanted to push innovation and make cool things. Now they are full of women, they/thems and board members.
The beginning focuses on "blacks" and "women" in games,as one of the reasons for the failures of the industry is laziness, full of contradiction and just outright wrong, for example, there was a famous black Samurai, I heard the next Ghost of Tusima lead is using a female shinobi as the main character and people are already deciding it's gonna suck based off that, Women warriors have existed throughout history. female shinobis existed, like the kunoichi, Then to use the idea that we use games to escape into another reality but can't accept this alternate world if it doesn't match our patchy knowledge of the past? The only thing that kept me on the video is your focus on the insane corporatisation of the gaming industry, and the need to provide returns to investors, you should check out the video by the More Perfect Union on "How Private Equity Is Ruining Gaming" Developers are getting ruined atm, profiteering is ruing the art.
i feel like diversity in gaming shouldnt be seen as such a negative trait. i think that most of us would be fine with a game that features unrealistic characters if the core gameplay was good, at the end of the day these games have large playerbases and there will be people gaining a lot more from the diversity compared to those who complain
Diversity was never the problem, it's these rich out of touch executive expecting me to praise them because they "include" my people, sometimes in the worse way possible and then using me as a shield when their poorly made product fail. especially company like disney who use muslim protagonist as selling point while they filmed near and payed leader of a muslim concentration camp to save money.
My guy, at 1:00 you say "Video-games are supposed to be an escape of reality. A place where you play as a fictional character that is edgy, cool and funny. Doesn't have to be realistic.", only to _completely_ pivot by saying "This dude Yasuke can't be in Japan, because he's black, that's not realistic!". Only to at 7:46 say "You have to understand that not all games are made for you." *_That makes you sound disingenuous._* Even if you weren't being disingenuous, your point is a matter of taste and isn't rooted in reality either. The guy isn't even "African American", as that would imply he was a guy from a country in Africa who moved to a country in the Americas, and then randomly ended up in pre-Edo Japan. There was no "America" during the time period they're taking inspiration from. Secondly, you present foreigners in feudal Japan like it's impossible, when we do have historic accounts of foreigners in Japan during these time periods and later. Undoubtedly there weren't many foreigners who entered the country, but people are acting like one foreign guy is equivalent to making half the NPCs foreign. Even if your first points in relation to reality weren't nonsensical, they'd be irrelevant, because historical _fiction_ doesn't have to be historically correct. *_That's why it's called FICTION._* Sure, you should implement some amount of realism in relation to the period you're trying to emulate, but there are no actual rules. If Yasuke was a white dude, nobody would've given a shit, even though that would be just as rooted in reality as him being black or any other skin colour. Even making a main character in a setting like this into a Japanese woman would irritate Gamers™️ more than a white dude, which is actually less realistic, because honestly at this point "realism" is just an excuse. You said it best yourself "Video-games are supposed to be an escape of reality", but some people try to use the supposed lack of the "reality" they're trying to escape from, as proof that the game is bad, even if it's not bad or unrealistic, simply because the result isn't what they're used to. If you're used to 90% of the game MCs being generic white US American dudes in their 20's and 30's, then you'll only notice the other 10%, even if it's nowhere near the majority, and you'll have to delusionally convince yourself that you're not a disingenuous hypocrite when you're upset that there sometimes is an MC unlike what you've seen 1000 times before, or they dot fit into your view of what is real and good. I remember a time when people gave less of a shit about what colour or gender the characters were, and more about story and gameplay. People WOULD'VE ABSOLUTELY complained if GTA San Andreas was released today, because it would've been "too woke" to depict a black US American MC who experiences police brutality, even though AFAIK that is realistic. People were foaming at the mouth because there were black people in the GTA 6 trailer, *like WTF man!?* Honestly, I'm f*cking tired of this annoying ass discourse, because none of it is genuine or constructive. It's just a bunch of people trying to pretend like they care about fun and engaging story and gameplay, when what they're complaining about has nothing to do with that, EVERY TIME someone presents a concept that isn't what we've already seen before and the MC isn't the same flavour of generic mid 20's dude. *Nowadays people are too spoiled for choice!* There wouldn't be as many releases before, and even though generic slop still existed, you'd have a higher amount of interesting games trying new things. There was no reason to be mad about Lara Croft being a woman screaming "A female explorer is unrealistic!!1!", and "She was supposed to be a he, that's woke!", because the games were good fun and were left at that. We didn't have as many alternatives. Only in the last 10 years have people been up in arms about "realism", while failing to realise that it's a hollow argument that badly veils their actual criticism, which is not being constantly catered to like a baby who cries for milk. Unlike the baby, a male MC of "the right colour" in a video game isn't necessary to stay alive. I'm tired of it. If you're gonna complain, at least be honest, and stop deluding yourself into thinking you're being anything but selfish and nitpicky. *_Other than that, I agree with you. Good video!_* Especially the point about graphics, it's very true. I still play old games on my PS2 and Xbox360, because they were good then and they are still good now. Yeah, they don't look perfect, but they're still fun, and in the end that's what gaming is supposed to be about.
I understand your point, an escape of reality means no politcs and agendas, my exmaple of San Andreas and Ghost of Tsushima explains what i mean. I don't have to include every "supprotive campaign" in every game i play in order for me to support it, especially when it kills the immesrion. Imagine if AC2 had a japanese character instead of Ezio, is it a big deal? No, does it kill the immersion? Yes. As for cool characters, look at Kay from star wars outlaws, she is a boring protagonist that doesn't sound cool, funny or interesting. Flintlock the Seige of Dawn as well. Far cry 6 had a very boring male protagonist.

That last line you said summarizes my first point completely
Holy crap I just realized you have 125 subs. Insane quality for the size of the channel
Glad you liked the video.
no because if you complain about these things you get canceled
Why would anyone get cancelled for giving an opinion with all respect to the other side?
you are completely right
Glad to hear that's people understand my point of view. Thank you for watching

Very well edited and articulated! I also appreciate how well-rounded the points are. It is indeed both the fault of companies as well as us.
Thank you for the kind words, really appreciated. I hope things get better to all of us.
Great video.
Thank you for the support, glad you liked it.
Good well edited video, you’re going places man. Also the thumbnail was really good

Thank God someone said it! That is why ps5 and series x has small exclusive because people are complaining of graphics.
Yes, graphics really are not as important as people think it is

Will definetly check it out, btw, i never intended on speaking about a certain race or gender. It just is Yasuke is the most recent topic, that's all
