The guy was a professional kickboxer with taped hands, no gloves, had vaseline all over his body, and they started standing up.

That’s the point genius. Did Rorion have kickboxing experience?

Rorion is without doubt the best BJJ instructor on the planet. He teaches the basics like no one else. People try to skip the basics but they are the most important. Look at the UFC from 1993 to now and see how many so called BJJ experts get mounted and can’t escape? This simple mount escape technique is actually given for free at the Torrance Gracie academy. Thank Rorion for simply being the best. Oh and one more note, Rorion was responsible for creating the UFC.

If the person mounting you is also skilled in BJJ escaping the mount isnt as easy.

Yeah, it's a little erroneous to call him a kickboxer because he was on the pro Kara-te circuit but in his competition heyday (which was the early to late 1970s) many of those who would go on to the new sport of kickboxing were meshed with the contact point Kara-te world. For example, he sparred and trained with guys like kickboxer Howard Jackson (also RIP). Ralph and his brother had a reputation for hard training and early on trained in some ways like kickboxers. Ralph was also a student of Chuck Norris. He also trained in boxing and I believe had boxing at his school. The Ralph Alegria in 1986 that showed up was definitely the "kickboxer" style. Interestingly, I think his ego prevailed and he wouldn't allow his face to be shown or name to be used when he lost. I think he relented later.

@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Great info...I trained at his studio in the late 70's for 2 years and he taught karate..he however had a speed bag/heavy bag and plenty of boxing influence in his studio and the way he liked to teach was 20 minutes forms and an hour of sparring..lol...he firmly believed in students beating each other up to learn something...I only have good memories of my time at his studio and it was a experience I will always remember..rip Ralph.

@@Mikegastaldo Thanks for sharing! It reminds me of my time in Kara-te in the early 1980s where many of the upper black belts, mostly non--nonsense tough guys, used to spar and do boxing work!

You know it'd be good if Rorion would, or Rickson demonstrate all the Jiu Jitsu as it was taught to them and show how they modified the techniques.
Even showing and describing hot to transition from position to position. Most importantly tell and demonstrate the feel and balance which is beyond technique as the whole repertoire of jiu jitsu is good, however it'd be useless against a jiujutsuan who sees opportunity to rush in and seize opponent, then feels his way until the opponent is down, where as Rorion said it's like being in water swimming, holding the opponet and reposition by like swimming directing the flow of balance. All these years of doing jiu jitsu, explaining, it'd really make a good video where many would like to hold onto what Rorion and his brothers know. As Judo doesn't teach this, but could he explain it BC as I'm not sure how to say it.

Did the Gracie's learn how to resuscitate people with Kappo or Kuatsu? Which it sounds these skills go deep. Even bone setting.
This would be interesting. As well as a book to complement the first, giving the map to get to the many positions, as well as the nuances of each position when transitioning. Where Rorion is the man! Him and Rickson, Relson where the guys know their jiu jitsu, no doubt. Where I remember back when the Dinosaurs roamed, Rorion was very clear, there style is not Judo or Judo derivative, IT IS, JIU JITSU!😃.

Bill Wallace has been talking smack about you guys to Karate Nerd, saying the UFC was all fixed to favour GBJJ. He goes on to say, you made up the rules willy-nilly to that effect, so as to eliminate unwanted fighters. Ultimately, he says BJJ practitioners needed to learn to strike in order to remain effective / relevant in today’s fight arena. He implies the dominance of BJJ today was based on the fraudulence of the early UFC which only ever pretended to invite all comers. In particular, you cherry picked stand-up fighters as they are the easiest to beat with BJJ. Although he gladly prostituted himself for the money, he says that you didn’t want him back as he asked too many questions. Counteracting your claims that all fights end up on the ground, Bill considers BJJ a secondary self defence on the basis that all fights start on the feet. Please challenge Bill, to see if he can, indeed, stay on his super feet, if having to face off against you(?) He’s a little older than you, so I’m not sure who the best Gracie is to challenge him. Certainly he has the humility to accept any challenge. Although, I too am a stand-up, and kicking fan, I would bet against him. Rather than people paying to watch, perhaps people can bet, with no return, as to the outcome of the encounter. A charity/s, can receive the funds. I know a lot about Bill and very little about GBJJ, and about yourselves, etc. but I know enough about fighting to see he’s just sore, grappling has stolen away the limelight whence he used to bask. The reality is that as well as he could kick and strike against you, he could not remain standing, and needs to be, ultimately, shut up about that. The greatest mistake any fighter can make is not understanding their own limitations, and the limitations of their system. Bill arrogantly and disrespectfully had to open his mouth, so you have to put him, together with his lingering ideas, finally to sleep. Especially as he knows wrestling, and he knows judo, but he just blatantly refuses to submit to Gracie BJJ, which he ought to, as a fighter.

Not taking away from the effectiveness of GJJ but you do realize the Gracies created and owned the UFC right?
