Great video Paul, I visited Cathedral Cavern and Hodge Close Quarry for the 1st time a few weeks ago, really impressed. There is a 2nd cavern in the tunnel that was flooded, I went in, it was pitch black, luckily had my head torch.

The most dangerous place to have a fire in the Lake District is on top of slate. Air gaps and centuries of rotting vegetation are the worst mix of all. You have decided to have a fire on a protected historical site owned by the National Trust, with no regard to the environment or for anyone else visiting the area. People like yourselves treating the Lake District in this way will result in a total ban on wild camping. It will then be the people who respect the environment that will suffer from your actions. Open fires in the Lake District are illegal. Simple, so have some respect for the volunteers and locals that clear up after your selfish actions!

Thankyou for your comment, and of course you do have a point, that is why I asked the question in the video. Firstly I might say the area we camped in is not owned by the national trust, it is a farmers land. Secondly I might add that if you check out more of my videos you will find that I always leave no trace, and more often than not end up taking other people's rubbish home with me, check out my Easedale tarn vid 👍 on this very very rare occasion I decided to have a very very small fire in a long established fire pit of at least 10 years old. We cleaned the area and made very sure the fire was out before leaving, we left it better than we found it. Although no doubtedly you have a point, I do genuinely feel you have been a tad harsh with your words there buddy. Love and light, Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁

@ACumbrianladoutdoors Firstly, it is owned by the National Trust, believe me, I do know. Secondly, I don't care what you've done on previous so called "wild camps". It isn't a small fire. Fires spread, and become bigger due to stupidity like this. So if the fire pit was only one year old, you wouldn't have had a fire? What a stupid comment! So you cleared the fire pit away then? Just like I cleared this 10 year old pit away last year? So I have a point? Me? What do you think the land owner thinks about this? Well I showed him (them) this video yesterday and it's been reported to the police. What do you think the fire brigade think? Do you think they have a point, or are you just bothered by the fact you think I'm being harsh? The couple who live at Hodge Close have a point also, but do you care? What about the volunteers btw, who often clear up these fire pits? Do they have a point? I doubt you even care after seeing your response!

@richardjennings2708 of course I care, like I say we left the place looking better than when we found it, and made sure the fire was completely out before we left. Other than when at my permission I think this is the only fire I have had in the lakes. You are entitled to your opinion, and so am I, I know I'm a responsible camper, always have been and always will be. You have a great day my friend 🧡
