I had a serious trauma months before at boarding school, and was starting my first day at public school. My first ex and I were together for about 6 months, which of course isn’t shit unless you are an 8th grader. We’d flirted for years before that. My life was changing so much when I first heard this song, and the line ‘all I want to hear is your voice’ stuck out so strongly. I am an adult now, and stopped missing that relationship as soon as I met the attractive high school junior in my new neighborhood, but every time I’ve heard this since, I’ve been brought back to that first time I head this song and everything I was feeling, both good and bad. It was right as I was finding the gateway to getting deeper into alternative music, and then heavier music that my parents didn’t already introduce to me.
