That's funny because all my friends thought I was weird too. We probably had a completely different demographic of friends but one of the wonderful things about music is it is a bridge. You and I may or may not have any other music we both like, but for this one song, we know we can slap high fives and enjoy the groove. Me and my aforementioned friends are bunch of white dudes who listened to metal, southern rock and some country. I know this song is considered hard rock or something in that neighborhood, but the looks of the lead singer wearing makeup, his hair, the almost bubble gum pop sound to their music is what my friends frowned upon. I was undeterred though and unapologetic. I didn't give a shit how the band looked. I just liked the music. The beat and the rhythm of this song pulled me in and I couldn't resist - and didn't want to. To me, hearing a great new song is comparable to a seeing a beautiful new watch. I know I love a new watch as soon as I see it, and I know I love a great song as soon as I hear it. Here's to hoping I see a comment of yours on another song we both like here on youtube. Cheers!

I remember being in middle school when this came out. I was not a fan of the Emo culture as a whole, but I definitely enjoyed the music. Especially this one. The guitars are amazing. That bass is great. But I used to listen to Hip hop and Rap and Classic Hard Rock so I can definitely see the influence on AFIs music and probably the reason I like it till this day
All these years later, and Davey’s look is still fucking awesome. Idgaf. I’ll die on that hill. Always thought his style during this time was sick af. The guitarist’s hair was dope too, but Davey’s is peak emo.
Everyone goes through the occasional phase. I, myself went through a Goth phase about halfway through high school. I've learned 2 lessons from it: 1) These phases can (and usually do) help you discover who you are, over time. 2) They tend to open your mind to new ideas, cultures, art, etc. - essentially broadening your perspective. In my case, it helped me exhume a part of myself that I concealed & buried when I was about 6 or 7 because I was very different from Everyone around me and knew I'd become a target if I didn't "blend in".
I was a goth all through my middle and high school years. I didn't wear all black, but my mentality was one in the same, so I got lumped with them. it taught me to never turn someone away cuz their different, and to appreciate what I had, because there are people with less. and the gothic kids already thought we had so little as is. Then those weird ass Emo kids came in and destroyed Gothic as a group. Now everyone things Goth and Emo are similar. Goths are fixated on death because it comes for us all, we were usually kids who experienced adult situations as children, or who were forced to grow up early. Emo is just a phase kids go through when they realize they ugly and love isn't blind and wanna kill themselves over it. Nothing like a Goth.
@@erikurizita6702 That's one of the reasons I ultimately rejected labels unless it serves some purpose. Trend followers present a poor image out of their need for attention, while those of us who simply embrace who we are have to waste time & energy combatting any association with that sort. I almost feel sorry for them bc they still haven't figured out who they are, and are desperately grasping for identity & validation. If it weren't for the fact that I spent so long hiding those parts of myself, I doubt I'd feel any empathy for the majority of them.
I was a hippie. A Hip hopper.. Gothchick, Alterna-angsty-Courtney Love, Club kid at Limelight n Tunnel,. All those eras have a part of my soul. You can be all those parts.. Why do u worry about labels? Free ur mind and don't judge fit in to a certain label. I have this wonderful freedom of not giving any fucks what anyone thinks of me. Once you stop defining urself and others it's beautiful. I am all these personalities, and still me.. I love all these different music genres, the fact that I feel like Joan Jett one day and Stevie Nicks the next and on and on . No one can put me in a category and I love that.

This is the first song that introduced me to AFI as well as the rest of their discography, and I'm thankful for the amazing music they have created. Happy 15th birthday, Decemberunderground! You will always be my favorite AFI album! 🐇🐇🐇

I miss 2006 and being an emo 13 year-old. I remember getting all sad about dumb stuff and now I'm like, damn I wish my only problems were homework, friend drama, and whether a boy likes me. Now I'm struggling so much that I may need a second job. The irony is that I'm probably going to apply to be a manager at my local Hot Topic

Can't believe I have never listened to the long version before now. Also, I remember listening to this as a kid back in the late 2000's. For perspective to all the crowd who listened to this as teenagers, I was somewhere between 6 and 9.

Trying to rediscover all the bands i've lost to the ages and broken iPods. I'm glad to have stumbled upon this iconic music from my childhood agin
What fucking monster would want a short version of this masterpiece? The fucking intro is PART OF THE EXPERIENCE.
Your boy has a jawline for days
2:17 LMAO
His whole look is hot 🖤💥 #jawlinefordays #deadaf
If he turned too quick he would scratch the lens....
Just like Mikey Way
A chin even Jay Leno is envious of 🤣🤣
I remember this being the easiest song to ace on Guitar Hero.
For real! Only had to nail the couple fast strumming parts lol
Anyone here in 2024?
Yep
Hell yeah
People don't stop listening because the year changes rofl.
Oh to be an awkward teen again 😮💨
yessssssssssssssss
The runescape goblins dying sound at 3:14 still goes hard today
The guitarist having his own little party in the back is the best thing about this video. You can tell he loves what he does.
特殊你会被骗不同样子
I am glad I was not the only one who noticed that lol
We all love Jade Puget hell yeah
How do you know he's not trying to shrug off a fly?
Listened to this in high school, now I’m 33, and this song is still an anthem. Good music is just music and quality last forever.
Same, 14 yo but in México ✨ I love AFI
The same to me, heard this song when it was released and now I'm 33
this is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺
33 club rise up!
Dude, just rediscovered this myself! Age of 35 and this may hit harder now than it did! So good.
2023 ... Все ще в моєму серці🖤
I've learned 2 lessons from it:
1) These phases can (and usually do) help you discover who you are, over time.
@@erikurizita6702 Have you watched the South Park episode about Hot Topic and the Vampire kids? Also plenty of emo kids went through fucked up shit... wasn't just a phase for some IMO
@@Kinuhbud I love that episode. But you aren't wrong, I mean, every person's does express pain in a different outlet
This is the most emo shit ever made.
Must be preserved.
Hmmm close but not the most emo. Seven times seventy maybe
My friend showed me this song when he was going through his faze lol. I thought it was decent, even at ten years old.
No it isn't. Try sunny day real estate, get up kids and so on. Good music, just not so emo.
It's My Sniff literally never heard of sunny day real estate, thanks for showing them to me!!
@@jimtheedcguy4313 Look up their song called Pillars, the live version. Wooo, it's chilling. Enjoy brother, youtube holds all this sweet vibrations, just have to look around. Cheers.
They totally killed it at When We Were Young!
A friend of mind introduced me to this band when I was 12. I was definitely not allowed to listen to this kind of music, but this song I listened to on repeat every chance I got! Still a great song 18yrs later!!!
mom: it’s just a phase
me at 24: becoming an assistant store manager at hot topic

I forgot about this song for so long and was just reminded of it recently. God I love it so much. I never listened to anything else by this band ever, but I need to get around to it now of all times.
Everyone talking about how cringey their emo years were as teenagers... I was 25 at the time... 😂😅
We all start somewhere
I was 18, I do not cringe at all! I loved it and still do
I'm a late bloomer and I'm being emo Right Now in my 20s in 2019

this song is still good shit in 2023!
Idk why this popped into my head today but it did.
New fan here, and although I'm 15 years late, Miss Murder holds a special place in my heart. This is the first song that introduced me to AFI as well as the rest of their discography, and I'm thankful for the amazing music they have created. Happy 15th birthday, Decemberunderground! You will always be my favorite AFI album! 🐇🐇🐇
It's a possibility life changing song, well done!
Dude I wish I could take you back in time back when this played on mtv. The lifestyle was so different back then! I am 27 and was in 7th grade I think when this really took off and I would give anything to go back ;) big adios shoes with skinny jeans with studded belts long hair with a black bandana and kr3w shirts 🤣🤘 people were different back then man the generation was the shit! I'm sorry you have to grow up teen years in this generation! Salute to you though 🤘 you're 1 in a million!
(A belated)Welcome, lovely! What has been your favorite listening, so far??
Never too late to discover great music 😉
Thats how I was introduced
This song came it when I was 8 yrs old. My sister was going through her emo phase, and introduced me to this song. My mom hated it, but we still listened to it every day
lol me too. my brothers were on their emo phase and this is one of the song they listen to all the time.
My mom introduced me to this song lol. I was 12.
Ahhh the intro vibes me chills....it's so simple yet so haunting.
Who still listening in 2024
Mmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤ Although it was made 14 years ago 😅😅
Love this dam song
@@user-hy6bl2co4h actually more like 18 years ago.
Me 😊🤭
Yep
I miss 2006 and being an emo 13 year-old. I remember getting all sad about dumb stuff and now I'm like, damn I wish my only problems were homework, friend drama, and whether a boy likes me. Now I'm struggling so much that I may need a second job. The irony is that I'm probably going to apply to be a manager at my local Hot Topic
lol❤️
Fuckin love hot toppiccccc!!! Got all my best body jewelry and goth stuff from there as a teen into adulthood 😩👌
Haha keep the spirit up mate.
At least you'll come full circle that way!
I’m 53 and still shop at hot topic☺️
When your male lead singer has better nails than the actress in the video ...👀🐱🐉
Hazel Greene WAITTTT i never even noticed he's SERVINGGGGG
Greatest intro/prelude ever
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🎸🐺🎸🤘
A girl I dated in high school loved AFI. I remember her freaking out when this song came out, I wasn’t much into it then but here I am 16 years later enjoying this music reminiscing of carefree days.
That scream always hits the spot

Halcyon always hits my spot mmmm. Hahahaha
Yeah it's the long version including another totally different song LOL
obsessively listened to this song & watched this music video as a 15 year old girl. really introduced me into this scene. now here i am, 27 and still mesmerized by this song, his vocals esp at the end, the bass/drums, video, everything. good songs & good bands are timeless
things seemed better back then, theyres not much individual style anymore with teens/people these days
27 year old gang unite
this is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺 🤘
you look like a scene girl. the one that wears a collar and calls people daddy
Can't believe I have never listened to the long version before now. Also, I remember listening to this as a kid back in the late 2000's. For perspective to all the crowd who listened to this as teenagers, I was somewhere between 6 and 9.
nice pfp

Always loved this song since playing it in guitar hero 3 back when I was a kid and it’s been living in my head rent free ever since ..
10 years ago this amazing music video was released. Anyone else listening in 2019?
Edit: I know the SONG came out in 2006. I am referring to the music video as stated above.
Right here dawg

Yup! Especially when you've seen them at wraped tour so many years ago!
@@lauragarza6469 What's it like being at a wraped tour
@@xanawillam6323 when they first started warped tour in San Antonio, Texas it would be in the summer and it would be outside!! I hated it!! So many people overheating, throwing up and passing out from Texas heat!! And you didn't learn about whos playing on what stage at what time until you were in!! And once you were in you couldn't leave until it was over!!! Saw so many great bands but it was just too hot for me!!
So glad I found this song again

I couldn't remember the name of the song for the life of me I only knew the line "take my life"
