This is truly the best reversible shopping bag pattern available. The method that Jess presents is genius for several reasons: the clever way of adding the lining, enclosing the seams, and attaching the woven straps are simple to sew yet makes the bag very sturdy. I make more than a hundred each summer to donate to a local breast cancer clinic to give the patients, so I verify what a huge time savings Jess's method makes. It was an 'ah ha!' moment for me- I instantly sewed a bag Jess's way and was thrilled to be able to complete the bag in less than 15 minutes. Game changer!! For those that are new to sewing, don't worry if it takes you much longer to complete, that's normal. Even as a veteran sewer, the first time I use a new clothing pattern, it takes me a couple of days because I really have to think about the sequence etc. What is revolutionary about Jess's sequence is sewing the straps as the same time as the finished edge- previously I would finish the edge and then sew the straps on top of that. In addition, I sewed 2 separate bags and attached them together for lining- big time waster. Lastly, using the French/flat seam method for the raw edges is so quick and very durable. Previously I was serging the raw edges of both lining and outer bag before combining, so yeah, it was a day's work to complete one lined shopping bag. I am so excited because I now sew lined shopping bags the Jess way, I whipped up my hundred bags in 6 days! Thank you, thank you Jess for sharing this!
Yes, I missed the final size of the bag too. Also I don’t see the cutting measurements for the lining please and thank you. Some great short cuts here for a bag I make very similar but your tips make it easier and quicker. Thanks, Debby
You don't know what a comfort it was for me to 'hear' that even veteran sewers take time to adjust to making a new project. I thought there was something wrong with me because my project is a messenger bag and it was taking me forever to figure it out. I've never made a bag before and I would say I am a mid-experienced sewer. And of course, everything looks easier on online tutorials. :) This bag will be my next project!
As a beginner at sewing, I love, love to create this bag! I have made like 20 of them now, giving to all my family and friends. Thank you and Purl for helping me.
Nice easy beginner tutorial. The only downside to the French seams is you lose almost 2 inches across the width of the bag. So if you like an 18 inch finished width to your totes make the starting width of fabric 20 inches. That will still give you two tote bags from 1 yard of fabric that is the standard 42-44 inches wide.
Thanks for the added info - novice at sewing, but wanted the larger finished bag and wondered if all the same measurements applied for creating the square bottom
I really loved your tutorial. The way you explain everything made it super easy to understand. Thank you so much. I have made 6 bags in the last 2 days and have material cut for 6 more. For a slightly bigger bag with no wasted material I bought 2 - 7' lengths of material which will make 4 bags when done. I first cut them lengthwise along the fold they had on the bolt. Then I folded each in half and cut along that line. This made each piece of material approximately 22" wide x 42" long. After placing one of each piece of material together (bad sides together) I marked, folded and ironed each side so I would have two inches of the inner lining fabric to decorate the top edge of the bag where the handles would go. *** For those who prefer the look of a 4" band along the top (which I found that I prefer) buy 2 - 7' 8" lengths of material. After cutting each piece of fabric into 4 pieces, they should be approximately 22" w x 46" long. *** I followed your directions on everything else except when boxing the bottom of the bag. I preferred a bigger boxed area so I made my initial mark as 5" on each side. Thanks again and keep the videos coming!
Nikki I know this is 2 years old but I just now found this tutorial ! I like your idea of making this bag larger! Could you tell me what the final measurements of your bag are? Thank s so much!!!!!
Jess, I just want to thank you for this awesome tutorial! I was so inspired by the two tone version that I immediately bought several yards of canvas and really cute coordinating fabrics. One small thing I wanted to mention is for those who have selected a lining with a directional print, just cut two panels 18" x 18.25" and sew them along the bottom seam (1/4" seam allowance), so your pattern will face up on both sides inside. I can't wait to get them all completed!
Thank you, Jess. Your energy is infectious. It is 3am in South Afica. I am right now going to jump up and make lots for my sisters and niece's. Abosolutely easy and practical. Will be proud to give as gifts to use over and over.
Your tutorial is fantastic! I’ve made over 20 of these bags! I reduced the size and made a child-sized book bag, I also made a smaller bag for a friend and she carries a book and her lunch in her bag….so many options. THANK YOU for the excellent tutorial. Much success to you.
When you need to press 1/2” in for example, here is an easier way to measure for the fold: instead of marking at 1/2” and trying to fold on that line, make a mark at DOUBLE what you want (1” here) and fold the raw edge to your marked line.
I just found this tutorial. I finished two bags today and I was so proud of myself at how lovely these bags came out. You’re right it was super easy. Thank you for doing this.
I've made many of these, and another just today! I add a matching embroidered picture of something that matches the fabric. Today was a sunflower to match the sunflower fabric - because I'm in Kansas, and who doesn't love a pretty sunflower? I've used fruits, veggies, a even a chicken on a set I made for my oldest son and his wife. Thank you so much for sharing.
I watched this then made 3 of these yesterday morning. I did my grocery shopping today and just love them. Got compliments from the person next to me at the self checkout. I folded them in thirds then rolled them up from the bottom and put an elastic around each one. I have a little fabric basket that will hold four of them. I will store them in my vehicle like that. Maybe this will help me remember to take them in the store with me. I do just love them. Here in Maine we will have to use something like this starting on Earth Day. Thanks so much for this great tutorial. I teach a sewing class and this is definitely on my list of projects to do. Thank you so much. Love your channel.
I'm so happy to hear you are enjoying using these, Barbara! I've made so many for family members, and we all do the same thing. Keep them rolled up in our cars, so we never forget to use them.
Thanks for creating this video. I have to admit that I was intimidated to tackle a bag with lining, and boxed corners, and the trim color. You made it look fun and broke each step down so simply that it was easy. I made 6 bags in a couple nights for my girl's weekend. I hope they love them!
Always looking for the best patterns to make grocery bags and WOW my searching is over. This pattern is super easy. I just love it. I make Morsbags from recycled upholstery and cotton fabric. All my bags are lined and I often add pockets so every bag is unique. I give away all my bags and this pattern has just made my day. THANKYOU
Wow, you're a genius! Thank you soooo much for sharing your knowledge, and the french seams were new to me-kudos! We saw the stain! LOL! Thats not a bad thing, just shows you're real! This was a new way to do a boxed bottom......great idea! Blessings to you my friend.
So.... I just made this bag! Without any swear words even! It turned out WAY better than I thought I could do! You are so AWESOME! Let's be besties. Lol.
Cool video!! I would sew a square and an X where the webbing attaches to the bag to ensure they'll never break away from the bag. Optional but considering it's canvas and webbing then may as well
OMG! This video was uploaded 5 years ago and I just made it, it looks so awesome and I'm so proud of myself.👏👏👏 Thank you for sharing, the instructions were so easy to follow. Continue the good work.
By far the best tutorial on this type of bag I've ever seen. Anybody can make a great bag from this tutorial! Great job! And the boxed corner with the french seam finish!! Girrrrl!!
I like how she says it would probably take 15 minutes because it def took me close to 1 1/2 hours (having everything already cut and prepped) but I love these bags. I’m making them as Christmas gifts!
I haven't sewn in o er 12 years. I've also never made anything but quilts, pillows, and curtains. I've made 3 of these totes and they've been a huge hit. Thank you so much for sharing and your step by step instructions. I'm hooked!
I love this bag I have ben home after being sick with covid in the hospital for 117 days I started doing little sewing projects to help with brain fog it makes me think. It's been such a good way to strengthen my mind and body. I came across your channel and subscribed cos you explain thing so well and do so many cute things. Thanks Sheila 😊
gorgeous bag.. have lots of left-over material to use & can't wait to get started.. so beautiful & practical.. your mom must be so proud of you & I would borrow that bag permanently too..
Sewwwww, I know this is an old video, but I just absolutely LOVE ALL of your videos. This is the second year I’ve followed you and I swear the confidence your videos give me as a beginner makes me feel like I could do anything!
I know this is an older video, but I just came across it yesterday. I made a bag & it was so easy. Couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait to make more! Great tutorial! Thank you for doing what you do!
Oh my goodness. How have I missed this video for the last four years??? This is gorgeous! I love the French seams; I think I would add some cross seams on the handles because I tend to overload my grocery bags. LOL We only have plastic bags now because we never remember to take our fabric bags to stores other than the grocery store. I could be using these at the hardware store, the pet store, Walmart (I hate going there, but whatcha gonna do??), at my FAVORITE: thrift stores, at...well, you get the picture. LOL
I love French seams rather than serged seems, so I am always happy to find another way to use my French seam. I have loved this bag pattern for several years but couldn't find the inspiration for fabric, etc. Now I am going to make it with your genius sewing innovations! Thank you so much and LOVE your channel! PS that is so cute you don't buy groceries because of all the treats. I have a similar problem with pastries...
I never thought in a million years I could make anything like this tote bag! You’re a wonderful teacher! Can’t wait to see what else you give me confidence to do! Thank you!!!!
I love this! I always heat bonded my lining to my canvas because I’m lazy, but I’m gonna give your lining a try! Your boxed corners are easier, too. I get cheap plastic cutting mats and cut them with my scissors to fit the bottoms to give a nice flat surface for my groceries. When I need to wash the bag I just pop them out and wipe them off. I love your tutorial!
@@dianehanson2678 Easy peasy! Measure the width and length of the bottom of the bag and cut your plastic mat accordingly. For your width you’ll measure 4” - remember, that is the width of the boxed corner. For the length, just measure the inside length of the finished bag. Cut the plastic mat to those measurements, and slip the cut piece of plastic mat into the bag. Push it down until it wedges into place giving your bag a flat surface on the bottom. Note, I like to very slightly round the corners of the plastic mat when cutting it so I don’t end up with sharp edges that could possibly poke through my bag in the future! Enjoy!
Ive watch a few times with time in between. I finally did made one, and another. Wonderfull gifts as I don’t have any for myself. This is more of a thank you for the video
I am working on making bags for resale. I am not new to a sewing machine but am new to bag making. Yesterday I did the lining just as you did. I didn't know what I was doing but it worked. Thank you for validating my thought process. You explain so well and you have a pleasant voice that doesn't make me change the channel. You aren't too slow and show the steps at the right speed. There is another corner that is like an envelope that is on the outside. Will work on that. Excellent video!
I love these bags - simple but look good and are strong. I live in Oregon and on Jan 1, 2020 the “no plastic bags for groceries” law goes into effect so I will be making a few of these. I’m going to try the Pul lined later because I will have to order some, but I made one with oil-cloth lining which turned out great. I agree with Maryann Beck - your video is easy to follow and your voice is easy to listen to. I subscribed to your channel so I look forward to more projects.
I loved doing this project! This is my first bag and it turned out so cute I'm already planning on making more. I love the way you teach. You're fun and relatable. I felt comfortable learning new skills with you. To be fair, I'm new to sewing so most skills are new. Haha! So today I learned French seam and how to box the bottom of a bag. I'm so proud of me. Thank you!!!
I love, love, love this bag, and my husband does too because he does the grocery shopping. I am definitely going to make more, and when I show them to my sisters I know that they will want one or several of them. Thank you for your great tutorials. Keep up the great videos.
This tote is fantastic! I have made 8, yes, 8 so far! Keeping them in the car for shopping. They go together so quickly and a great way to use the left over fabrics for the tops of the bags. Thank you, Jess!
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! My mom bought me my sewing machine 18 years ago, I wasn't able to figure it out with the instruction book and patterns, and now thanks to you and UA-cam I am learning to sew! I've made 12 bags already!
Holy smokes, where have you been, all my life. This video is pure perfection, it's simple easy and straight to the point. This past weekend, I went to Goodwill just to see what's available , and I purchased 7 yards of beige canvas fabric . At the time, had no idea what I was going to make with this fabric , bingo found your video . I'll be making a ton of grocery totes for myself my kids and whoever else wants them . Thank you for sharing
I’ve made a lot of bags throughout my 72 years, but I think this is the nicest one I’ve ever made. I just finished the first one. It’s almost too bite to use for shopping but I have fabric for 8 more already cut out. I’m using waterproof canvas and a sturdy drapery fabric - both given to me. Thank you for sharing the pattern. Our county just passed a law that bans businesses from using plastic bags. Grocery stores, hardware stores, office supply and other major retailers are now charging for paper bags. I’ll be using Jess’s favorite bag instead.
Oh wow that is great to hear, Darlene! I can imagine the transition will be a challenge, I know even I rely on those dang plastic bags too often. This really is a great alternative. If you make one, you may be recruited to make MANY more for friends and family (just warning you!).
My 13yo daughter asked for a sewing machine for Christmas. And in ny state we are getting ready to have no more plastic bags. This is a great tutorial to get her feet wet! Im so excited to share this easy to follow tutorial with her!!
This is a great pattern for a beginner sewer! Help her with the thicker parts, just to make sure she has control of the needle. But she will be so proud of what she can make! It's such a gift, to show someone how to make something for themselves.
For me, it is easier to double the ‘turn down’ amount, so if you want a 1/2 inch turned down; mark your fabric at 1 inch and align the raw edge to there & the amount of hem will be 1/2 inch. No peeking, the line can clearly seen.
What a great tote tutorial, thank you and I can’t believe I haven’t found you before! It is so great to have someone with such personality doing sewing tutorials! I actually chuckle out load when I watch your videos, you are like a breath of fresh air!!
That means so much to me! Thank you for commenting. At the end of the day, if I can help just make some people smile, then I've done my part. And if they make a bag that's nice too😂. Thank you for watching!
This is a great tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to find a great assortment of patterns and combining them to make an easy and pretty reusable bag!
I have been making this tote for the first time today. I'm moving pretty slow but I'm sure the next one will go quicker. I have come back to this video several times and it's great. You are a great teacher and you make me chuckle. 😂
Awesome project, I used to sell poloyester bags. When I saw old women with a walker or cane, I would wheel in my chair and give them one. That was when I lived in a city. EVERYONE gave me their moms or Grandmas poloyster. I also made a bag with velcro to make a smaller bag to put their purse into. That was years ago. Great craft and I wrote notes and sizes . Great job~!!
That's so kind of you Cyndi. I love hearing about sewers helping others with their gift. I'm sure everyone who received a bag was extremely touched by that kind gesture.
I have been looking for the perfect pattern for grocery totes.. Found it!!. I also found using painting drop cloth from your local Home Improvement store is much cheaper than using fabric canvas. I also never thought of using cotton webbing. Ingenious. Thank you for sharing.

French seams are my new best friend!! Thank you so much for an amazing tutorial and how to add a lining and square the corners in a quick and easy way.
I love this tutorial! This is such an easy tote to make! I have made several of this size but I kind of tweaked it a little and made mine a little bigger. You are so much fun to watch and I giggle throughout it. Thank you so much!
@@safarichey I actually forget. I made this bag so long ago, and I made it wirk, but I forget the measurement. I should have written it down. Love this bag!!!!
Jess I made 4 of these bags and sold them at farmers mkt. That was a year ago. Now I am making more for kids to use for books. I just watched your video again. Thanks for a great lesson!
Your right that’s an awesome fast & easy bag to make 👍🏼 the only thing I would do is use a dark or printed fabric for the bottom because that would bug me to make such a cute bag and have stains on it that way a printed or dark fabric will hide the stain 😱 but your’s came out very cute loved the colors 😍 I will for sure make some of these bags it would also be a great bag to but a gift 🎁 in it that your giving someone instead of those paper gift bags at least the person could use the bag after it could be part of their gift 🎁 awesome 👍🏼 Thank you for the idea ♥️
Thanks Mary Ann! That is a great suggestion, darker fabrics are much better for daily use. We use these for all kinds of things, it's surprising really. Have fun making them!
this is the BEST!! I've been making my own lined bags with pockets inside and out, very similar to yours ..... HOWEVER with my French seams I did not previously finish the "boxed bottoms" like you did. GREAT! Well done. and thank you!!!!!!
I love the way you did the double sewing at the bottom part. Also love the whole pattern cause it seems so easy and simple to make. TYSM for sharing this video with us. (BTW - I didn't see any stains on your bag you showed us at the beginning. 😉) Love your channel. 👍😍❣😻
Thank you for this Tutorial. It was truly simple simple for me and my machine I was so happy I can make other people happy now by giving them an amazing tote bag thank you
Your comment about the french seam made me a subscriber! Lol! This is a really cute project & I'm a beginner so I am going to try this, thank you! 🙋♀️
I know right. That was EXACTLY my reaction when she said French seams. So funny, as soon as she said it, my finger went straight to the x and then... I made the bag. Love it!!
Oh my, Just finished bag 3 and am addicted. Thank you for your video's. So fun, Just finished my granddaughter a bag with a pretty fabric and then the top was all about nursing (she is a new nurse).
What a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing this tote pattern. Im going to make the older kids trick or treat bags , so they can reuse them for other things.
You could also put another little strap in the middle 4 inches long that the checker can use on the hook of the bag stand. I love this video. Thank you.
Brenda, you won't believe this but I just gave the EXACT SAME response to another commenter asking about this exactly... Are we on the same brain wave length?! It's such a good idea! I feel 1000% more confident in my response now. Thank you!
I *love* this bag! I would add a loop on one side, top and middle, so that it can be held up at the checkout by the framework there. Going to make one of these. Or two.Or three!.....Hugs!
Made it and love it. I used mid-weight fusible pellon because a friend asked me to make her a stronger bag. I did like using the fusible with this bag. It a bag that is strong enough, making it just as Jess did. Thank you for keeping this video up after 4 years. I love using French stitching.
Great tutorial! I made one today and love it. Used an old April Cornell tablecloth and an upholstery remnant. I didn't have webbing so did I order any.... nope, made fabric straps. No patience when I find a good tutorial. Thank you - so clear!

Thank you so much! I feel so proud to be able to follow your instructions with ease. I am so proud of myself
I like how she says it would probably take 15 minutes because it def took me close to 1 1/2 hours (having everything already cut and prepped) but I love these bags. I’m making them as Christmas gifts!
I have found that if you are going to make a few cut a bunch at once and it works well…
I haven't sewn in o er 12 years. I've also never made anything but quilts, pillows, and curtains. I've made 3 of these totes and they've been a huge hit. Thank you so much for sharing and your step by step instructions. I'm hooked!
I'm so happy to hear that Kathy!!
I made this bag last week for my mum. It was my first bag project and I absolutely loved it. I’m fast becoming obsessed with bag making and I love it!
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. French seams are always amazing.
I love this bag I have ben home after being sick with covid in the hospital for 117 days
I started doing little sewing projects to help with brain fog it makes me think. It's been such a good way to strengthen my mind and body. I came across your channel and subscribed cos you explain thing so well and do so many cute things. Thanks Sheila 😊
I’m brand new to sewing. This is going to be my first project. You explained it so well I’m sure I can make it. 💜
gorgeous bag.. have lots of left-over material to use & can't wait to get started.. so beautiful & practical.. your mom must be so proud of you & I would borrow that bag permanently too..
Sewwwww, I know this is an old video, but I just absolutely LOVE ALL of your videos. This is the second year I’ve followed you and I swear the confidence your videos give me as a beginner makes me feel like I could do anything!
I love your delivery! You are adorable!! I learned French seems and love them!! I can't wait to make this! Thank you!!
I've made about a dozen of these. I love giving them away. You do an awesome job teaching. Thank you!
I like doing French seems but never thought to use it on the tote bag for groceries. Love it! My next bag, I am following your video.
I’m a fairly new sewist and don’t have a server, so French seam everything! I love using them, they look so neat
The best bag tutorial EVER!!!!!!!
I never thought in a million years I could make anything like this tote bag! You’re a wonderful teacher! Can’t wait to see what else you give me confidence to do! Thank you!!!!
wow loved how you explained step by step!! you made it so easy to understand!!! I will be making these for sure!! Thank you!!
I love your tutorial!
i LOVE that idea.. someone was saying a ... brain fart here but basically a certain type of iron on stiffener.
What size do you cut for the bottom of the bag please?
I love hearing that you made some!
@ finished number 7 and still don’t have one for myself, there are a few more people in the neighborhood with grocery totes
I'm so glad it went so well for you! You're going to be hooked on bags now 😉
I love these bags - simple but look good and are strong.
Love this bag! super cute and easy. Thanks for showing us!
I've looked at so many patterns for tote bags and yours is my very favorite! And your personality is too cute!
Aww thank you so much, Rita!
A fantastic and very enthusiastic instructor! Fun to follow you!
Awww Thank you Elisa!
Finally, saw how French seams are done. That's great. Makes the inside look great! Love your video. Thanks.
Thank you for watching Anne!
This is by far - the easiest, sturdiest and fastest tote pattern ever! Amazing. Thank you!
Totally agree, Danielle. It's such a great pattern. Thanks for watching!
This tote is fantastic! I have made 8, yes, 8 so far! Keeping them in the car for shopping. They go together so quickly and a great way to use the left over fabrics for the tops of the bags. Thank you, Jess!
Wow! That's fantastic Michelle! Keeping them in the car is such a great idea. I'm so glad you enjoy making them!
I've made tons of grocery bags and totes. This is definitely the easiest way to sew one that I've seen yet. TY!!
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! My mom bought me my sewing machine 18 years ago, I wasn't able to figure it out with the instruction book and patterns, and now thanks to you and UA-cam I am learning to sew! I've made 12 bags already!
aa36793 what kind of webbing did you use for the handles?
Holy smokes, where have you been, all my life. This video is pure perfection, it's simple easy and straight to the point. This past weekend, I went to Goodwill just to see what's available , and I purchased 7 yards of beige canvas fabric . At the time, had no idea what I was going to make with this fabric , bingo found your video . I'll be making a ton of grocery totes for myself my kids and whoever else wants them . Thank you for sharing
That's a fantastic idea! You're family and friends will love these, they are SO useful!
This is the best tote bag tutorial and you are so fun to watch! Thank you so much for putting this together
Thank you for such kind words!
Glad I found this! No plastic bags in Albuquerque starting January 2020!
Oh wow that is great to hear, Darlene! I can imagine the transition will be a challenge, I know even I rely on those dang plastic bags too often. This really is a great alternative. If you make one, you may be recruited to make MANY more for friends and family (just warning you!).
Oregon too!
This is what I do too :)
I also use this technique for hemming my t-shirts and casual blouses. I like your simple explanation for someone who hasn't used this method.
Excellent quick advice on the French seams like French Fries!
You are a delight. Love watching your videos. I like how you streamline your bags.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to find a great assortment of patterns and combining them to make an easy and pretty reusable bag!
Thanks Tina! There are so many other options out there! I'm eager to find some other variations to share.
I have been making this tote for the first time today. I'm moving pretty slow but I'm sure the next one will go quicker. I have come back to this video several times and it's great. You are a great teacher and you make me chuckle. 😂
I made one for my grandma today, she's going to love it! The video is very well done and easy to follow. Thanks!
@@OklaRoots Thank you for your kind reply. Cyndi potter
I have been looking for the perfect pattern for grocery totes.. Found it!!. I also found using painting drop cloth from your local Home Improvement store is much cheaper than using fabric canvas. I also never thought of using cotton webbing. Ingenious. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Carol! It's easy to share a good pattern, they really nailed it with this one! I love the drop cloth idea!
Where did you find the pattern? I can’t find it
@@carolhathaway8476 There is no pattern...she tells you the cut dimensions at the beginning... Just cut the fabrics to the sizes she did...
Love the paint drop cloth idea. Thanks!🥰

What size did you increase this to? And then....how far from the center point did you place your handles ( if different from the 3" in video)?
@@christineross4839 I'd love to know too.
@@christineross4839 I would love to know the measurements that you changed to enlarge it
@@safarichey I actually forget.
I’m making camper themed ones for the campground craft show. I was thinking on selling for $20. Do you think that is an ok price?
Have fun making them!
,canvas on the bottom will wear better than cotton.
this is the BEST!! I've been making my own lined bags with pockets inside and out, very similar to yours ..... HOWEVER with my French seams I did not previously finish the "boxed bottoms" like you did. GREAT! Well done. and thank you!!!!!!
I'm so happy to hear it was helpful!
I have been watching all kinds of bag making videos, and this is the best.
Thank you so much, that's an incredibly kind statement. I hope I can bring you more options in the future!
This is the best bag making tutorial ever. Love it.
Loved watching this

It's very lovely. I love your detail.
Ok....this is adorable and will be everyone's Christmas present this year
I love the way you did the double sewing at the bottom part.
Love it!!
@@breakingthread ha ha! Glad you made the bag. 🙂
Great taste in fabric and fashion sense! Thanks for the lesson!
This pandemic helped me find a great hobby in sewing! Your tutorials make it so easy! I can’t wait to do more! ❤️
That's incredible Zaneta! I feel our sewing community grew a lot because of the face masks, and that just means so much to me!
Thanks for a simple and very cute and durable grocery bag.
I love this bag, especially the way it's done with french seams! I'm making a couple right now.
Hello, I have not used canvas before, do I need to get the duck canvas, and will it be washable? Thank you.
Oh my, Just finished bag 3 and am addicted. Thank you for your video's. So fun, Just finished my granddaughter a bag with a pretty fabric and then the top was all about nursing (she is a new nurse).
I will be making this bag. Looks so easy. By the way you are adorable.
Thank you Peggy! Report back and let me know how you like making the bag!
What a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing this tote pattern. Im going to make the older kids trick or treat bags , so they can reuse them for other things.
love it. Going to try it. It is one of the easiest I have seen, Thanks
don't want to tell you how long it took me but the end result is great! I love this bag! Thank you
You could also put another little strap in the middle 4 inches long that the checker can use on the hook of the bag stand. I love this video. Thank you.
Brenda, you won't believe this but I just gave the EXACT SAME response to another commenter asking about this exactly... Are we on the same brain wave length?! It's such a good idea! I feel 1000% more confident in my response now. Thank you!
Awesome idea, taking it, thank you! 😊
I love ❤️ this idea to include!!!!
The old type of free plastic bags are actually banned here in Australia but you can buy the old type of those Hg ag..s
You have come a long way!!! I have been following you a year now.
I *love* this bag! I would add a loop on one side, top and middle, so that it can be held up at the checkout by the framework there. Going to make one of these. Or two.Or three!.....Hugs!
We do the loop at our boomerang bag class
I made it - my first bag! I interfaced the black canvas which wasn’t necessary and made the seams super bulky. Lesson learned. Really great tutorial.
“A French pencil” lol! New subscriber!
Thanks for the video. I love the ease of creating the lining. Must try!
"Just because it's French, doesn't mean it's fancy!".. Sooooo true 😉👌
Hahahaha!
In France it’s called couture anglaise= english seam😂
Made it and love it. I used mid-weight fusible pellon because a friend asked me to make her a stronger bag. I did like using the fusible with this bag. It a bag that is strong enough, making it just as Jess did. Thank you for keeping this video up after 4 years. I love using French stitching.
Correction.... I didn't like using the fusible with this bag pattern.
I always wanted to sew. This would be a great first sewing project. Your video was amazing!!
XOXO Doreen
You should definitely sew Doreen! I think you'll love it, and this is a great starter project. Let me know if you make it!
Great tutorial! I made one today and love it. Used an old April Cornell tablecloth and an upholstery remnant. I didn't have webbing so did I order any.... nope, made fabric straps. No patience when I find a good tutorial. Thank you - so clear!
That's fantastic Harlan!
@@OklaRoots I have now made FOUR of these - for friends and so I can play with variations. Thanks, Jess.
