Import Fanboy what I told myself is buy what you really want, no matter what the price is, so yea I bought a decently expensive 240, but it's in great condition and it's what I wanted since I was like 15 or 16, I worked hard to get it and I don't regret it at all, I'm in love with my 240...even though it's still a stock ka lmfao
literally same. i bought my first s14 when i was 15 years old. I now have 3 s14 and im 17. still stock ka. my friend has a e36 with a ford 351 windsor making 600hp na. i don't care about performance as much as i do the ascetics. they are drift cars but i like them to look good when im going sidewaz. also i only go through two tires in one day which is pretty nice. my friend goes through two in two runs.
I get your point, but: -the S13 looks waaay better -the S13 has pop-up headlights -the S13 has rear seats (if the passenger is willing to sacrifice some legroom, it's a solid 3 seat car with a 4th for emergencies) -the S13 has a larger trunk from a pure performance / cost standpoint, the 350Z is better but if you also factor in looks and practicality, the S13 wins imo.
Same !! I got lucky last year and picked up my 98 for 3.4k with a lotttt of extras. Also had a rebuilt sr20det, angle kit, bride seats, nice interior, even all trunk interior. And made about 500 on the extra stuff i got. I got really lucky
A lot of people are sleeping on the platform. Already you can find really cheap examples and the second you swap it to anything it's a load of fun. Buddy Club from Cali is swapping one right now with a 4g rated @500 wheel... On a car that weights nothing
Next Level Scrub yeah but for now they are hella expensive and make no power with that unreliable boxer engine. These are gonna be the new go to engine swap car.
Jonathan Doe yup only thing is the pain to work on a vq I just got done rebuilding a vq on my g35 after I ran it to it’s death and they rely on to much electronics I heard the sr20 is easier to work on
I sold my sr swapped type x hatch and unattached type x skirts and rear valence 6 years for 8k. You wouldn't believe the amount of knuckleheads offering me $4-5k and shitty trades, and then throwing tempter tantrums when I'd refuse their wack offers.
K20Jakob miatas are nice, tf you talking about, they are also cheap as fuck and ls swaps are popularizing meaning if you have a problem mist likely someone has already solved it
I get your point but i don't agree. 240s are an awesome platform, weight nothing, tons of aftermarket parts, tons of different swaps you can do and it's well built, 240s have a fantastic chassis. I mean, if you''re able to work on your car, you can get a CLEAN chassis for a 1000$ and to me, 240s looks way better than a 350z. Even here in italy where less than 1500 200sx s13 were sold (hatch only, we don't have the silvia) you can get yourself an s13 for not that much. I've got a clean chassis for 1200 Euros and the average s13 is sold for 7-8k Euros! I mean, yes, the drift tax exist, but i'm more than happy to see that people understand how valuable this platform is. Yes 350z is a great platform, but not as good to me :D Oh here we have the CA18DET, so even from the factory we have a great engine capable of alot of horses, good torque and great reliability.
you see 350z's almost any and everywhere. I've seen one or two 240's on public roads in NJ but they were both s13s. Production numbers for the '98 240sx is about 2200. So yeah they can be overpriced but they're still rare cars especially the later modles
I hate this video. if you love something what is cost. new cars today average sell around 32,000 and you can get a good 240 on the est coast for 2,750 average. and also the 240sx is the most iconic drift car so at the same time you get what you pay for. and that's a peace of history of a legacy. buy if you just want to be a hoonigan and don't care what your driving you just want to drift, get any rwd car and treat in like a drift missal
240s are not shit lol.. I agree that the pricing isn't what it should be but that's due to owners overpricing them. the 350z is a good alternative but are pretty expensive to mod if you're looking for more power than provided stock. give it a few more years and then the 350z will become the new overpriced 240 then you move on to the FRS/BRZ or 370z and so on never ending cycle lol but isn't that part of the 'scene'?
prices for some 240 are ridiculous, had a guy claim his s14 kouki was worth in the range of 12k for a stock ka24 with some suspension mods and work wheels
Your right these cars are becoming way to expensive, people who don't know anything about the 240sx just start selling them at high prices because they saw other people do it
Very true. This is a neccesary evil of modern safety regulations unfortunately. The 350z is a lot more rigit than the 240 however and, in addition, makes much more power so in my opinion it makes up for it. The other big thing is the 350z has a lot of aftermarket support, like the 240, which I think plays a big role.
"350 is the new 240" this is totally right. Drift tax has taken its newest victim, the z33. theyre cheap now, and everyone gets them to make missiles out of them. cheap, good tq, strong chassis. I love all the stupid ass S chassis kids not agreeing lol you guys need to chill
tloh uh, no one here is talking about which car has the best pro capability lol and honestly, S13s are hardly more than decent missile/practice/Am cars anymore. Go to a real event in Japan and add up the JZX chassis' eating everyone up. .. I'll wait
jzx are being used as less s13 over there are running.... But this isn't japan, and jzx's here are still 8k+..... so..... Another thing i'd like to add, I wasn't talking about a pro stand point.. I mention chris forsberg's pro exp with a vq becuase its someone everyone knows and can relate to and trust opinion...... I own a shop I worked for shops, the vq is a piece of shit until the hr motors. Facts. Ask anyone. The pre 06 trans shit at 300whp in 2nd and 3rd synchos... a ka trans lasts longer..... cd009... hr.. yea they are good... but running thru tons of for sale ads to pick a 240 posted back in 2013.... then findhing the shittiest 350z model for good price isn't to comparable. Also ask anyone beside new drift kids who just watch ebisu trips on youtube, jzx aint doing shit in pros. It's won 2 events in its 30 year life. Besides ebisu, drifting in japan is declining, ask anyone who actually goes. And yes I have been its fun. You should go. If ANY car is the new 240, it's a e46. shells/ none running for 1k and can be jz, turboed, or ls'd for the same cost as any other car.
I understand why a 350z is a better option, you're right on most of the thing, although there is one category of people that a 350z wont fit, BUT more than 90% of the 240sx/silvia out there wont either... Those silvia had a particular look and if you are in to build and maintain your 240sx as a sunday drive's car/show car, the Z looks nothing like it... Also the Z is heavier, like, alot... so I would pay the extra money to get a clean Silvia S15 straight from japan over a 350Z... again, it's a great car, but from someone who just love the Silvias (s15 in particular) a 350z wont replace it
that is your opinion. who cares about "regular people". It only matters to car people and the owners them selves and thats all that matters. i have a s14 with a stock ka and my friend is always telling me to do engine upgrades because he only cares about performance ( he has a ford 351 windsor e36 making 600hp na) basically what im saying is some people like things that others don't ( i imagine you all ready know this).
Dont listen to this guy if u have good mechanical knowlege The most best driving experience and dynanics 350z 370z cant compare to the versitality of this car 30 years later
Big_fred Fuck the 2JZ. It sounds like any sport bike, and frankly it has no character to it. I'm tired of these 2JZ fanboys jerkin' each other and saying "oh I want a supra or just a 2J 240." Fuck off man, there are way better engines out there that you've never heard of or would consider because you're stuck on this stupid belt driven POS. VQ35/37 is chain driven and will never drop a chain because it's a better design.
I've had my 200sx RS13U (european spec, which comes with the CA18DET) for 14 years. I bought it from an 82 year old man, Mr Price, who stayed in my home town, Cape Town South Africa. He imported it brand new in 1992 from Belgium to South Africa. I bought it from him (I was the second owner from brand new) for R18 000 ($1158) in 2008, it had 78 000km (48 000 miles) Full service history, everything was OEM, including the rims, radio, sunroof bag, full tool kit and jack and some other OEM goodies from Nissan in Belgium. After 14 years of ownership, she still puts a smile on my face, hearing the turbo and exhaust sound. Looking at her all polished and clean always makes me think what a beautiful car that Japanese made. My 200sx still is OEM, with a full service history, original radiator, original shocks, original springs (never cut), still stock height, original rims, original midnight blue paint, the only upgrade i ever did to my car, was a stainless steel exhaust and T28/T25 turbo, original exhaust manifold, original injectors. She is making a reliable 158kws and 285nm. The current milage is a very healthy 184 000kms (114 332 miles) still full service history, i change the oil and oil filter every 5000kms (3100 miles). If you guys would like to see pictures of my car follow me on instagram @200sx_ca18det
i bought mine for $1800, it had a blown engine. none of the brakes were working, it had toyota supra tail lights molded into the rear end, its suspension was blown, it was one of the few thats in my area that has a clean title, i spent about $17000 just in rebuilding it, and i'm still not done. its not worth almost 20k in just rebuilding a car that breaks a lot and has an engine that cant handle that much power. its not worth getting a 240sx unless you have a very good job that pays good money. if you want to learn how to drift, get a 350z, they are way more reliable, that can handle a ton of power, the body isn't fragile like the 240sx. plus so many people are buying 240's thinking it's gonna be the perfect drift car, and then they end up crashing and or thrashing it and it turning into a salvage title, trying to find a clean title 240 is nearly impossible for a cheap price. and don't be a fucking dumbass and buy a 240 thats skyrocketing in price and is getting insanely rare just to find one that's not a salvage title. If you're smart you would buy a 350z, a car that's affordable, fast, durable, isn't rare, and has about the same aftermarket support as a 240sx does.
My brother bought an S14.5 for $4200, it runs great, its straightpiped, and she already got slid. If you find the right 240, its not that bad of a price. Most are over priced. We looked at this one that was turboed and 'perfect'. When we got in the car, it wouldn't go over 2500rpms.
SmurfC. Tech, Gaming, and More! Lol I paid $3800 for mine. "all it needs is a tune" so far It needed exhaust, valve seals, radiator, intake, turbo was leaking exhaust, has boost leaks, needed gauges, bad fuel pump, bad injector o rings , etc. it's never 'perfect' with a 21 year old car lol
apex128 Yea, we already had to lower the idle rpm's, we have to throw on a catted downpipe for emissions (which we cant pass with a straightpipe), we had to change the spark plugs, change the ride height, and change tires... a lot. Like you said, nothing is perfect with an old car. The work is worth it, it really pays you back whilst driving.
You're right the 240 has sort of exploded out of control, but the 350 may not be the answer. Out of the box it is pretty sweet, but adding power can be tricky because those engine bays are kinda small and have a big engine already stuffed into them. There isn't a lot of room to grow with 350s. There's plenty of LS potential with them, but that's a whole different discussion. The next 240 is the BRZ/FR-S. They are going to get cheap and they are simple with massive growth potential.
I agree as well , although I did fall for the trap and pull the trigger for an all stock super clean 240sx s13 vert a few months ago. But I think that the Frs-Brz-Gt86 platform will be cheap in the forseeable future. Plus they are fun just like the s13s and s14s I mean they are already being modified insanely engine swaps everywhere ans they only came out a few years ago similar to how S-Chassis are.
I agree, give it a couple of years, (about 3-5 more) and the FR-S/BR-Z/GT-86 will become very cheap and I'm sure we will see some great deals on 2013-2014 models
Been looking for a 240 for over a year, checking online everyday/every other day. After enough looking I found a guy selling a built sr20 swapped 240 in running condition. Wasn't running perfect but after a few days of work it was fine. Body's in not perfect condition but nothing terrible. There's not many out there but if you wait you can find a great deal just got to snag it up quick. Paid 4500 for the car clean title and all. And I definitely think it looks better than any 350z.
The 350z is an absolute bear to work on. Turbo kits are far to expensive for them. Supercharging.....meh no thanks. The vq35 is far from bullet proof let alone if you don't have a cd009 from the factory. Yes they make more power from the factory but they aren't light and nimble like the s chassis. Granted some people do ask a pretty penny for their cars but there are also some that are still very well priced. The only bonus in buying a 350z is that they are a newer car and have a nicer interior, just a lot of lack luster with those vehicles.
some valid facts, most i ever paid for a 240sx was 6k. just because it was an s14 kouki original and it was VERY clean and straight also a manual. im currently on my 6th one here in Japan, my daily s14 for $5500 and my track 180sx sr20det i got for 600.
I would totally agree but in my opinion the 350z Is one of the ugliest cars in the drift scene. I know its my opinion but damnit the taillights and all it just looks hideous!
man try to swap and build a sr for under 15k, it’s not possible anymore with red tops going for 5500 now, just for engine and trans, 240 are going up in value weather we like it or not, i’m with you man, you made a lot of good points, but you also kinda look like a clown calling out these 240 that are rly worth 15k these days, a built s14.5 making 560whp, it’s for sure with the 15k if not more lol.
I have been outta the 240 game for quite some time now. Didn't realize SRs were going for that much these days. That's ridiculous lol. You may as well go LS since a LS + t56 costs the same amount of money(ignoring swap kit + fab obviously.) OR go to a different platform entirely. If I were to spend $15kish on a car these days, it would probably be a 370z, c5 or c6 corvette, WRX, etc. Also, this video is 4 years old. While those cars might be worth 15k NOW they were tough sells for that kinda money then, as there were better deals to be found.
My favourite car is the s15 spec R which you could argue is a 240 and I feel that you are missing the point of why old silvias are amazing to drive. It doesn't matter how fast it is, it doesn't matter how old it is, it doesn't matter if it is unreliable. The reason people love 240s is because of the soul, the personality, the way it makes you feel. I love some new cars but in reality none of them give me the same feeling as any of the old silvias.
I just bought my 240sx S13 1993. I paid 1450 and it was completely stock, with no corrosion in the chassis, running great , I'm the 2nd owner. I don't know if keeping it stock, it was really hard to find in such conditions. I agree the 240's got expensive but you can still find em in good conditions, patience is really important when you looking for this kind of cars :D
I somewhat agree but I got my 95 with kouki conversion rb20det, mines ecu, welded diff, coilovers 18' rpf1 reps. Tubed front end, bucket seat, harnesses, charge speed overfenders and front fenders for 6k. And I live in cali. Idk if I could have gotten a better deal
As a 240 owner, they break, then it breaks again, then you repair something else, then you have to fix another thing, may have to do with the way you drive it lol, but the chassis are all 20 years old, they're not worth anything, its a 20 year old 4 cylinder Nissan, the value is all in the owner. They're junk unless you fix them, and if you think otherwise you've not owned one.
I agree that they are too expensive however. I’ve always wanted a rb26 swapped 180sx with a Silvia front clip (sil80) it’s worth it if it’s your absolute dream car
I found a stock 240sx 12 yrs ago for $2500. Drove it. Gave it to my daughter 3yrs ago for her 16th b-day. Lowered, big tires cool exhaust, stock engine and 200,000 miles. Quick but not fast. Very fun to drive. The only problems I've had were one injector, 3rd gear synchro a little warn and a oil leaks. Perfect car for her. Doesn't like to do over 80 but looks like it will do 140. What more could a parent of a teen driver want. We took it on a 4000 mile road trip last year. Still an awesome car. They are way overpriced on the Internet.
that's crazy how quick they have gorne up in price over there, I picked up my imported factory sr20det manual s13 for 3500 Australian dollars 😂 but there starting to rise and cars like the rx8, 350z and s2000 are starting to become alot more comparable price wise even the gt86s have almost fell to the price of a good s2000 already
EatSleepDrive s13s weren't sold here from dealerships but have been good to import from Japan since the 90s so there's quite a few around. we got s14 and s15s in turbo trim from dealerships under the 200sx name which is cool.
As a G35 owner for over 10 years, after I came from an sr20 swap s14 back in 2005, I can completely agree. I sold my 240sx when the prices sky rocketed (mainy because of tokyo drift) and used that money as a down payment for my G35. Best decision I made. The problem is how expensive it is to build a VQ35de/hr motor. cams cost me 1400 w/ springs and even with a good deal, it cost me about 6k to build the bottom end. If you wanna be stock and do some bolton's you're good for about 280whp-290whp is you get the right mods.
There's a perfectly good reason for someone to buy one, the reason is that they love S Chassis. If they want to put their time and effort towards that and it makes them happy that's the best reason to do it. Don't tell people they're spending money/time on the wrong thing, if it makes them happy, it's worth it. As long as it's not hurting anyone. That goes for everything not just cars
I owned a 1990 240SX for about 10 years. Bought it from a small used car lot......almost everyone else buys them from private owners. I'd say I paid a little more for it compared to Craigslist but everything worked and the car was sound and solid......and very very stock. Despite it being an SE model, it didn't have alloy wheels, front lip or rear spoiler. I owned mine before the whole drift craze here in the states went crazy with them. Over the 10 years I've owned it, all I'd done were some handling mods (springs, shocks, strut bars, sway bars, tires, brakes, etc.) and a few power-freeing upgrades. It was my daily but I only abused it at autocross events. What I enjoyed about autocross is it's mainly about handling instead of power. Despite having the SOHC engine, I'd beaten other 240's with twin cams, SR swaps and LS V8 swaps at autocross events. Reason being is they produced more power but they couldn't use it fully on such a short and tight course layout whereas my 240 mainly had handling mods so I can keep my speed up better than they could. In short, I had one of the fastest SOHC 240's in the NorCal area at autocross events. Elsewhere, yeah I'd be beat easily. My main rival was my brother who drove and still drives a AE86 coupe with nothing but handling mods. My goal was to always get within a second of his time. It was hard but I pulled it off several times. This was the only 240SX I've ever owned and probably the last. I guess I had the luck of the draw not needing to buy 2 or 3 more 240's just to own a 240. I've had friends who'd gone through at most 5 240's in 3 years. I'm like "WTF are you doing? I'm still on my first one." Anyway, the only issues I had with the car was the MAF sensor connector. I would wiggle out of place I guess but still be connected and cause the CEL to turn on. So then I'd have to dive under the passenger foot well to reset the ECU all the time, so annoying. Funny thing is I decided to sell my 240 and ended up getting a car that came stock with a SR20 engine, a G20.....and that engine is pretty much the only good thing about that car. I don't really miss my 240 or miss owning one since I had one for a long time.
I seriously thought you were gonna say E36, lol! But I DEFINITELY see your point. I bought a 92 hatch with some mods for 1500 bucks, had it for maybe 4 months, cleaned it up, and sold it for 3500. Its ridiculous. I have a G35X now with suspension, intake, and exhaust, and its fantastic! AND I get to have fun in the snow!
I'm with this guy. The biggest reason I wanted an S14 was for the backseat for my kids when they rode around in it, but the prices are ridiculous. If it's stock and manual, highest price. You also have tons of unfinished projects being sold for way more than it's worth. Definitely way better going with a Z, which in my state goes for about $4.5K running, and since I'm pushing about 300k miles on my maxima(VQ30DE) milage isn't a big worry with a Z.
3 years later, and this guy is 100% right. I had two VERY clean SR swapped 240s over the years that I sold for $6500-7000, and you definitely couldn't buy them for that now. I wouldn't mind a full Kouki/Koguchi/tf works gt-1 S13 but at that point I'd be ponying up $10-20k for the right one. Which would be absolutely insane, considering you can buy a C5 Z06 a C6 a 370z or so many other awesome cars that wouldn't be nearly as much of a headache for that price.
LOL I literally went and drove that black one making "556whp". He swapped the turbo for a cheap garbage one, had horrible tuning issues and wouldn't go past 3k rpm. Still an awesome car but not nearly worth what he was asking. Maybe 10k at best but the tuning issues were way too scary to sort out
I've had 4 s-chassis's now including ca18det s13's, sr20det 14a's etc and agree with this guy, if I could do it over again I would get a 350z fit some decent coilovers, weld the diff and steering lock kit. Job done. Probably wouldn't break every outing too. I guess the s-chassis is just addicting though.
on paper i agree, but my eyes and ears wont let me. the s chassis is just that beautiful all around. also the silvia is a culture classic and if restored correctly or in great stock condition, it shouldnt have any problem selling for a higher price. its 2020 now and the video was made in 2017, most s chassis i see online are anywhere from 10k to 30k if v spec and in perfect condition.
I just bought a rb25det neo swapped rx7 fd for about 8000USD, I am strongly agree with you that 240sx is priced way higher than it used to be. Before I bought my rx7 I was a looking for a 240sx sr20 model and it was priced 9500USD.
I would suggest a Toyota soarer twin turbo 1J. People are practically giving them away over here in Australia. I could have got one for $1600 the other day with 115,00km and fairly tidy. Only needed around 4 grand put into it and it would have been over 500hp with a single turbo conversion and brand new parts pretty much all round. It had a decent paint job, body kit, suspension, black leather and no electrical issues. It's a bloody shame I was flat broke at the time. But picked up a 1983 Mazda GTX 1.6 turbo 2wd that I'm going to restore/modify it from the ground up. Picked it up for a $1000 and I reckon 5 to 6 grand for the restoration (I'll do all the labour) over a few years. This car is so bloody rare that I would say there are less than 15 left in the entire country. Hope fully it's going to be worth an absolute fortune in years to come . Either way it's going to be fun bringing it back to life and driving the first hot hatch turbo that Mazda has ever made. 350s are too noisy being a mid ranged engine and have no character. There's nothing really special about them and they are usually driven by dickheads who can't purchase a turbo because of restricted licenses. 180s are fantastic cars but I would take an r32 gtst over them anyday of the week. 6cylinder over a 4 cylinder and they eat 180's for breakfast (stock or modded with equivalent to each other. Sr20s are over rated motors. Too unreliable and don't have enough punch of the line
I bought a 240sx 3 months after watching this video for the first time(when video first came out)....i then ended up buying a all stock 91 manual hatch with 95k miles and had never been winter driven that was one owner for a little less than 4500 USD(current market for s13 in similar condition where i am is around 7-8k xD) Over the past year i have enjoyed this car a lot and although there is some truth to this video, I have 0 regrets and love my car. It took 3 years of looking on craigslist, good timing and some luck xD. Best of luck to anyone else trying to find their dream car, this vid gives some good options for cars close to the schassis and has lots of truth.
I get your point and I can't argue it at all, but what I can say is stick with the S13, just pay about 5-7 G's more than what some are asking and get it imported.
dallas chace So a 20 year old car with no front airbags, no side airbags, no side impact beams, no crumple zones, and no rollover protection is safer stock for stock than a car from the 2000s? Give me a fuckin break.
350z has one of the highest death rate of average sports cars. but i will say alot of 350z i pulled on to my flat bed was driven by young drivers that probably have alot less experience then alot of people lol
He's right that the 240 is way overpriced now, but that's probably because of the fact that stock 240s are becoming rarer and rarer, and, outside of the stock world, the people who buy them to mod into a drift/track car are trying to salvage the money they sunk into the car.
I don’t think he’s wrong. But I love both. Obviously the 350z is way better on paper but the 240/Silvia has this special place in my heart and I just love it.
if you want an American alternative, Foxbody mustang, 5.0 v8, light, cheap, powerful, and really easy to modify and can fit any engine under the sun in them, only downside is a solid axle but you can swap an IRS into them relatively easy.
I bought my S14 12 years ago for $4k and have put on 120k miles (mostly daily driver in Michigan). But, since it's a Michigan car, rust is taking it's toll. I think it has more value to hold on to, than to sell. To comment on the video, I agree to a certain point. One thing i DO like about the 240 is the back seat. Not for the people (but I have had 4 or 5 people in it!), but for the dog and other stuff. There are VERY few "similar" cars with a backseat: TT, BRZ/FRS, and ...? When you don't care about the back seat, there are a lot more options. I've liked the 350z look and have only ridden in one once. It's a car I would consider if the price was right
BMW e36 and e46 are the new 240s. Ample aftermarket support can be picked up for 1000-3000 all day long factory 6 cyl with 180-220 hp and rwd. Has all of the variables that initially drew everyone to 240s.
Bought my 200sx "sileighty" silvia front s13 for 5500€ like a 1.5 year ago. Its about 9000€ car now here in finland and i have zero regrets. Absolutely amazing car to drive and so many mods and parts out there for cheap. It has ca18det around 300hp and this winter im going for 1jz gte vvti swap that makes it a freaking monster. Our garage has +700hp rb s14 and i would take it 10000 times over that 350z or anything else you said. Its around 25k € car here and 350z around 15k stock.
honestly being a owner myself I can honestly say he's not wrong. The 240sx is an amazing car and in my personal opinion a better chassis than a 350z, however they are basically all buckets. It is a fun car, but the instant you fix something something else will break in my case it is a car from 92 so I get it shit will break. It's a lifestyle and even though everything will break I won't be trading my 240 for a while. This is coming from a guy who had his face burned off by a over pressurized coolant system that blew off the cap (no I did not open it). So if you want a bucket from the 90's with EXTREME drift tax be prepared you'll be in for a ride or in some cases no ride, but I currently wouldn't give up my 240 for anything.
i can find s13s under 2k so buying the car isnt bad, everything after that depends on what you wanna do, but yes its my favorite car hands down, love the coupe look
Sprint2911gt3rsr I agree I picked up my hatch for 1800 with an extra motor (which was needed since the original blow on the way home). The issue is that you used to be able to pick one up for around 1000 in perfect order and now you can only find decent shells for that much (granted you might find Craigslist gold). Sooner or later shells will be around the 2000 mark and at some point most of them will be completely wreaked or scrap metal jacking the price up even further. This is where the point of the video comes in we will have to move on someday it sucks but it's true. If only Nissan would just bring back the s-chassis or even better just remake the originals (complete fantasy but one could dream).
Bought my 1st 240sx for $840 in 2010 and replaced the fuel pump in the previous owners driveway. It was a steal but now they're so expensive w the drift tax that it does make sense to get a Z instead. In the end buy what u love tho
I got my s14 for $1,500 and it has a rebuilt engine with only 500 miles, straight pipe exhaust, new coilovers, 255 fuel pump, and countless other mods and all it needed to be running was a new fuel filter, the clear coat is chipping a little but it's expected on a 20+ year old car but other than that it's bullet proof. Prices for 240's (at least in my area) are under 5k but I agree the 350z is getting a little cheaper and 240 prices are going up. As an investment standpoint 240's are better because of prices rising (if you get them cheap enough), 350's are going down until 10 more years or so when they hit that sweet spot of rising again. But both are amazing cars none the less.
Bought a bone stock KA24DE 93 S13 for $3K with working cold AC. Always did like the 240sx and one came around for a good price and I bought it. Runs amazing. And I do not intend on missing it either. I'll pick my 240sx over a 350z any day but that's just my opinion. They're not bad cars by any means I just prefer the 240.
He is correct except one thing.
240sx looks better than 350Z
And it's a 4 cylinder
And it’s easier to work on

I get your point, but:
-the S13 looks waaay better
-the S13 has pop-up headlights
-the S13 has rear seats (if the passenger is willing to sacrifice some legroom, it's a solid 3 seat car with a 4th for emergencies)
-the S13 has a larger trunk
from a pure performance / cost standpoint, the 350Z is better
but if you also factor in looks and practicality, the S13 wins imo.

A lot of people are sleeping on the platform. Already you can find really cheap examples and the second you swap it to anything it's a load of fun. Buddy Club from Cali is swapping one right now with a 4g rated @500 wheel... On a car that weights nothing
More like miata's now sadly

all fair points but the 350 will never get the rep the 240 and S chassis had
Yes 350z is a great platform, but not as good to me :D

350z is heavy though

Not if u find a good one
I understand why a 350z is a better option, you're right on most of the thing, although there is one category of people that a 350z wont fit, BUT more than 90% of the 240sx/silvia out there wont either... Those silvia had a particular look and if you are in to build and maintain your 240sx as a sunday drive's car/show car, the Z looks nothing like it... Also the Z is heavier, like, alot... so I would pay the extra money to get a clean Silvia S15 straight from japan over a 350Z... again, it's a great car, but from someone who just love the Silvias (s15 in particular) a 350z wont replace it
Kevo05sGaming the s15 is beautiful. i would pay for a legit s15 over a 350z as well. especially the spec r with the 6 speed.
that is your opinion. who cares about "regular people".

240sx gang for life, I can sacrifice some things, like price, but for mine I got what i paid for and I'm enjoying it. :)
SmurfC. Tech, Gaming, and More! Yep, you got it lol. Just takes more dedication and time.

Don’t know if anybody will see this but that black s14.5 is literally on Facebook for sale for 20k right now. I thought this video just came out lmao
Interesting to hear a similar trend is happening in Australia. Were S13's not sold originally in Australia? I'm not familiar with that market.
EatSleepDrive s13s weren't sold here from dealerships but have been good to import from Japan since the 90s so there's quite a few around. we got s14 and s15s in turbo trim from dealerships under the 200sx name which is cool.
btw that s14 looked dam fun 👌👍
I learned something new today. Also, yes that S14 is a riot. I miss it.
RX-8's are going up in price? Holy hell!
LOL THIS DID NOT AGE WELL
If you think the 240s are expensive, you are not a car guy
bitt ill take the looks of a properly done s14 than a 350z any day
There's a perfectly good reason for someone to buy one, the reason is that they love S Chassis. If they want to put their time and effort towards that and it makes them happy that's the best reason to do it. Don't tell people they're spending money/time on the wrong thing, if it makes them happy, it's worth it. As long as it's not hurting anyone. That goes for everything not just cars
yea I agree I found a shell. no engine or transmission 6k.....6K!!!!
😂
I don't really miss my 240 or miss owning one since I had one for a long time.
i agree with him i live in NC and people want 2-3k for just a bare chassis, luck i got my 240 chassis for free
This is a complete joke? U look on forums for over priced cars and use that as all 240 sell for.
350z parts are more expensive and harder to work on than 240s and 300zx
rhat is true but not all people want to mod them.
Maybe 10k at best but the tuning issues were way too scary to sort out
Life with Ty when did u drive it?
I've had 4 s-chassis's now including ca18det s13's, sr20det 14a's etc and agree with this guy, if I could do it over again I would get a 350z fit some decent coilovers, weld the diff and steering lock kit. Job done. Probably wouldn't break every outing too. I guess the s-chassis is just addicting though.
The 350z will only get cheaper did not age well unfortunately
If only I saw a global pandemic coming...
@@EatSleepDrive me to man me to :( stay safe out there brotha
on paper i agree, but my eyes and ears wont let me. the s chassis is just that beautiful all around. also the silvia is a culture classic and if restored correctly or in great stock condition, it shouldnt have any problem selling for a higher price. its 2020 now and the video was made in 2017, most s chassis i see online are anywhere from 10k to 30k if v spec and in perfect condition.
wow i thought u were gonna go and say the miata haha but yea u are 100% correct bout the Z's now compared to overpriced hoopty 240's
Miatas have their place in the car world but they don't make sense as 240 replacements in my book. I'm glad you agree.
I just bought a rb25det neo swapped rx7 fd for about 8000USD, I am strongly agree with you that 240sx is priced way higher than it used to be. Before I bought my rx7 I was a looking for a 240sx sr20 model and it was priced 9500USD.
Now that's a swap you don't see to often. I'd love to see more of your FD.
My friend brought this up a long time ago...hmmmm
You make a lot of sense
Glad you agree!
3 years later we are paying 13k for 240s that barely run
Rather a G35 than a 350z. 350z looks like a guinea pig.
Alex Alvarez G35 is a girl car.
Chance Kelly
Lmfao a 350z is honestly actually girly looking. Looks hilarious.
Alex Alvarez it really doesnt though..
They're both kinda wonky.
Fun fact the 350z was literally designed by a woman. Look it up
I still love 240s but you clearly know what you're talking about and I respect your opinion.
5, 6, 7 grand is still way too much for a drift cat in my opinion though
When you can’t drive a 240sx / 180sx so you make a vid hating on them lmao
Now watch the 350z raise in price.
It's bound to happen eventually.
I think this isn’t just a 240 thing.. look at all the 90s Jdm cars. Best era of cars eeavurr
you have to find a cheap 240 lol I wouldnt spend anything near 4k for a 240. if I can't find one 3k under then fuck it, I don't need it lol.
300zx > 350z (expensive parts/maintenence
I get your point and I can't argue it at all, but what I can say is stick with the S13, just pay about 5-7 G's more than what some are asking and get it imported.
i can get 240sx all day 1-4k 5 at the max 350z is a death trap u do not want to wreck a 350z without full cage
yup I know people who have died in 350s street racing on the highway
Street racing on the highway is the problem, don't blame the 350z for the driver's stupidity
Jon Dobitsky knew* lel
dallas chace So a 20 year old car with no front airbags, no side airbags, no side impact beams, no crumple zones, and no rollover protection is safer stock for stock than a car from the 2000s? Give me a fuckin break.
350z has one of the highest death rate of average sports cars. but i will say alot of 350z i pulled on to my flat bed was driven by young drivers that probably have alot less experience then alot of people lol
He's right that the 240 is way overpriced now, but that's probably because of the fact that stock 240s are becoming rarer and rarer, and, outside of the stock world, the people who buy them to mod into a drift/track car are trying to salvage the money they sunk into the car.
Right bro! Z BROTHERS 😂
I found a bone stock 240sx in great condition in my town for only $1500! If you can find one that cheap, absolutely go for it.
350zs are ok, too bad they're ugly as sin...
Taylor Renton you mad
you have a gay 350z hahahhaa
Taylor Renton yea indeed the 350z looks ugly and are gay
Dden Dden I mean I got a supercharged 370z and I'm proud of it. Tons of fun and quick af too
I don’t think he’s wrong. But I love both. Obviously the 350z is way better on paper but the 240/Silvia has this special place in my heart and I just love it.
I approve of your opinion. the s-chassis is way expensive online now. would rather have a Z-chassis now
if you want an American alternative, Foxbody mustang, 5.0 v8, light, cheap, powerful, and really easy to modify and can fit any engine under the sun in them, only downside is a solid axle but you can swap an IRS into them relatively easy.
You really hit the nail on the head with "it's a lifestyle." I get it and agree 100%.
i can find s13s under 2k so buying the car isnt bad, everything after that depends on what you wanna do, but yes its my favorite car hands down, love the coupe look
Finally someone understands why I will buy a 350z over a 240sx. A 350z here is 6k where a 240sx is 8-10 clean!
This guy gets it.
Honestly when you started the video I completely thought about the 350z since my buddy just recent got rid of his for like $3,000 lol
