The instrument is a work of art, and then she starts playing it. Gorgeous, haunting, soul-filling tone.
This lady plays like an angel incarnated as a human…..her ability and knowledge leave me feeling humble and grateful.
🎉
not only does this woman have an incredible charm but she enchants with her airy music...simply a blue dream!
Why are people hitting the dislike button for this video? Gorgeous instrument and you play it beautifully. The sound is so unique.
Agreed. Can't make sense of the downthumbs.
No doubt they are all experts & could do better ....or they are, by nature, internally warped. It's all I can come up with to answer your question. It's obvious to me that she is highly skilled & in the process of learning an amazing & complicated new instrument. Fantastic! Thanks for sharing & thumbs up.
I think that about many videos: "who on Earth could object to this?"
For the sake of science I just now searched UA-cam for "kittens playing" and found many videos of exactly that. Many downvotes on each one. Bizarre.
@Martin Turner Agreed! You can ' hear ' the whole instrument as she plays , and she plays it wonderfully with that near magical sounds.
Either because they have nothing better to do other than to be a jerk or they're simply jealous...
The instrument is amazing and she just plays it like a true master. Incredible.

After all these years I have come across an instument I have never seen before !! beautiful...why have I never heard of or seen one of these amazing instruments before ? Its amazing
That's what I was saying. Why had I not ever heard of this before. My husband played guitar and my son plays
Harp guitars were popular over 100 years ago, and they were on a lot of phonograph records. I collect records, so I'd seen the name, but only recently found what they look like.
@@teresagray1477To answer everyone's question, most of the harp guitars that were popular 100 years ago broke, long ago, because of the tension of those long strings against a hollow resonator that doesn't offer the same support as the neck. If you have one of these instruments you always have to detune it before long term storage. But also, they were hard to make. They were there because a double bass was too big and cumbersome for most gigs. Once the bass guitar was invented, people decided that was way easier.
Your choice of Don McLean's transcendent "Vincent" to demonstrate this remarkable instrument was divine, your execution, exquisite. When I first sung this song for a gig, I was so emotionally moved I almost couldn't finish. A love song about a painter! As McLean wrote, "Now I understand what you tried to say to me." My deepest appreciation.
I'm sensitive too. I can't sing a long without crying. Okay. I'm more sensitive. 😁
I'm reading Van Gogh, The Complete Paintings by Taschen and learning about the man and his torment, his friends, and his love for his brother, Theo. Seeing all of his artwork, is incredible. I've gotten 3/4 of the way through and I've stopped for a while, unable to finish right now because we know how it ends. :( McLean's Vincent played on the radio one day and it choked me up knowing now so much more about him as a human being. xx
I find Vincent mesmerizingly sweet and I have played it for some 10 years now Am a lefty guitarist of 72 yrs old.
"Ah, that shows you the power of music, that magician of magician, who lifts his wand and says his mysterious word and all things real pass away and the phantoms of your mind walk before you clothed in flesh."
- Mark Twain
I caught the tune right away and seeing it’s one of my very favorite songs of all time (and I’m 54) it made this even more delightful to have happened across!
I think Muriel Anderson is a wonderful guitarist. She is playing with so much passion! 💗🙏
The man that made that for you is a master wood crafter, and your playing is absolutely amazing. Such a beautiful sound.
Mr. Doolin: Absolute work of art and outstanding construction. Truly one of the last great craftsmen of musical instruments.
What a beautiful instrument and played in the hands off an equally gifted musician
Unbelievable, absolutely a wonderful sweet and smooth sound. And Muriel, you make it look like its easy to play. Hats off to you...
Glen...
I don't dispute that the instrument has a beautiful tone, but so much of what is mistaken as tone is actually the 'touch' of the musician. Beautiful.
You're right, despite its tones and appearance, because it sure would sound like a sheer annoyance in my magical hands...
horseshit, a shitty instrument sux no matter who plays it
@@allenhaywood9608 nuance is lost on you I guess
That is the most beautiful rendition of Vincent that I've ever heard.
Hello!! I’ve been struggling for 70 years trying to be a decent six string guitarist and here you are being a goddess playing a twenty string guitar. You are quite wonderful.
John Paiva
Me too, about 60 years. This is incredible.
It's not just a guitar but it's also a harp.
God Christ Jesus bless you all my family :" ) love you all and i pray blessings for your relationship with God
What a beautiful sound ! Why are people disliking this video ? Such creativity and expertise should be applauded and respected.

What a marvelous instrument, thanks for showing us how it works. Sounds Divine!
Occasionally youtube offers a gem. A guitar with a similar range to a grand piano? The instrument maker did a great job of building something that stays in tune with all that tension and have it sound so beautiful.
That’s a beautiful instrument, a work of art, and Muriel is absolutely amazing.
Oh, I thought you were talking about Muriel...
2 string Harp guitar the Water by Johnny Cash hey Ya
Beautiful Muriel guitar playing; it doesn't get much better, and a harp guitar is a technically different beast. I loved the late great Michael Hedges playing and got turned on to harp guitar from his incredible music. 🤘🏻❤️
Muriel, everytime UA-cam brings this by me, I watch it. SO BEAUTIFUL ! YOU and the HARP GUITAR and the MUSIC you play. THANK YOU !
Wow. You played Vincent beautifully, it made me cry. What a talented musician you are. Thank you for sharing your talent...
About my favorite artist.
🎼quelle virtuose Muriel cet instrument est aussi remarquable que vous avez a le maîtriser c’est mélodieux et très beau MERCI
Beautiful instrument and your playing does it Justice. Beautiful is all I can say. Thank you!
Phenomenal musicianship on a phenomenal instrument
I could listen and look at Muriel all day! I could ALSO listen to that harp guitar played by her all day! Thank you for the demonstration and short piece of music.
Might I suggest her Two Friends CD with Julie Adams, cello. When I first got it (many years ago from Julie) it stayed on my CD player for several weeks and was played constantly -- so very beautiful and quite relaxing. Can't say enough about Muriel's playing -- quite extraordinary.
Finally, someone who can play one of these with taste and elegance and not sound ridiculous with all these harplike crescendos and such. Good on you, muriel.
i can listen to you all day. what a blessing. what a gift. you're an angel. my wish is that you do a long playing disc album.
Sometimes human beings really do transcend. The craftsmanship in the instrument, the virtuosity of Muriel's playing and arrangement and the beautiful songwriting of Don McLean. ❤ Just perfect.
I love the song "Vincent". Sounded great. One of my all time favorite songs done excellently on a most unique guitar.. Bravo.
Muriel Anderson is amazing. She's my size (extremely petite) and handles an instrument that I find absolutely daunting (and I play the actual HARP!). And I absolutely love that she pioneered sharping levers on the harp guitar. MURIEL FTW.
I play harp, and guitar as well. This is my dream fusion. I just wish there was some way I could spend an hour with a harp-guitar to try it out.
She's indeed amazing 😊😊... How are you doing Molly?

I really like hearing someone play a harp. Such a beautiful sound
Amazing instrument and a wonderful musician. I cannot imagine the talent it needs to master it so well!
It's easy. She just plays it like a normal guitar and twangs the extra strings here and there for special effect.
That was beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful beautiful instrument and music! Vincent would be honored.
Wow. You are something. That guitar is simply beautiful, BUT what's much more important than that, in you hands it sounds simply gorgeous! Carry on.
I have to agree!

I'd have been happier to hear the song first and explanations after. She's so good, I'd love to hear MORE.
Heavenly performance of a heavenly song. Blessings from London City of England.
Love this instrument - what a gorgeous sound, especially with Muriel Anderson to play and explain. Thank you.
Beautiful design, Mike. Excellent versatility, Muriel. You play so elegantly.
Gosh, that's a beautiful string instrument you've presented and played for us, thank you, Muriel Anderson. Surprising!
That was, simply, beautiful.
Art in perfection, especially for the music instrument builder. Fingers of an angel.
Thank You Muriel. No words can describe the beauty of the sound of that Guitar in your hands. Again thank you.
What a beautiful harp guitar with an awesome tone. Muriel's playing is just a breath of fresh air.
👍
Thanks Muriel for the heavenly sound.
How beautiful!
Thank you, Muriel. 🙏
This instrument, is absolutely amazing. It is outstanding the beautiful sound is Effortless, very peaceful to listen too. Thank you, for your talent
When she started to play I closed my eyes and went to another world, beautiful!!!!
Thank you for sharing your talent and the history of the instrument. I feel very blessed to see and hear your video
That's a beautiful harp and you play even more beautifully. Thank you for sharing your gift and talent and the years of developing your virtuosity.
So mesmerizing to hear one of my all time very favorite songs played on such an exquisite instrument! It gives me chills! Thank you for sharing!
One of my favorite songs played so beautifully on an instrument I've never seen before.....sometimes scrolling UA-cam is unexpectedly AMAZING!!!
The craftsmanship that went into the making of this instrument is equally as grand as the musicianship of its owner. You are both amazing artists and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to enjoy what you have shared here. Bravo 👏.
That was absolutely beautiful! Wowwww
What a beautiful instrument, so beautifully demonstrated by Muriel - Don will love that !
who ever thumbs down this is just jealous that they can't play like that! amazing guitar and amazing player!!
Hard to understand. They dont like harp guitar? Music? Why not just pass by?
I myself gave it a thumbs down because I was disappointed in the fact that she really didn’t play it much in this video and that’s what I was looking for.

Yeah, I can't play like that, but I respect her for doing so. The tone is just beautiful.

I have no idea how I happened upon this but I'm so happy I did. A beautiful soul playing a beautiful instrument. I'm left wanting more and more.
Love the instrument, but I realize that it would not have attracted me without the artist. Muriel Anderson is amazing. I just became a fan!
I can’t figure out what I’m more in awe of, the instrument, or the musician. Both are fantastic 🤩😁
This is the first time I've ever seen one of these . I have never even heard of one. But my goodness she plays it effortlessly and it sounds so beautiful. And that is one of my favorite songs to listen to. How amazing. I will live out the rest of my life. Remember this moment and hearing her play this song in my mind. Thank you for sharing. This is just amazing.
Beautiful music from a beautiful artist. Really nice.
Absolutely beautiful!! The harp is an ancient instrument now combined with guitar just magnificent !!
The man who crafted this beautiful instrument, like those other masters who have built violins etc, had The Good Lord touching their hands and their hearts to bring out the music that is within.
I know nothing about music theory and technique, nor do I know how to play any instrument, but I love musical instruments and love to see musicians talk about them. This is a beautiful piece of work, and the song by the end was fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
I've never seen anything like that before. Thank you for sharing that beautiful sound. You were blessed.
Wonderful to see Murial after all these years. I met her at Belmont University. She plays beautifully ❤
How special this instrument is! And it sounds gorgeous. I love the high-pitch strings extra-built on the lower part of her guitar.
beautifully played. so peaceful. well done, years of talent there
Wow! That guitar not only looks good but sounds sensationally beautiful in your hands...
So.. my first time .
Wow. That is incredible. She rocks it. Just never saw one.
A modern theorbo! Stunningly beautiful instrument and tone.
Heavenly performance of a heavenly song. Blessings from the prison city of Auckland, New Zealand.
I love it,your great, don't stop playing, your choices are endless ,God bless
I have no talent in the musical area and it amazes me when I see and hear others make the sounds they produce with such ease.Such talent is precious and rare and should be immortalized. Thank you for letting me hear and see you.
GORGEOUS instrument.....are you kidding me⁉️What a SOUND!!!! What a fabulous musician playing one of my forever, all time favorite sings!!! Yes....I, too am tearing up. ❤️🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎵🎶
Very nice! I need to show this to all my guitar-playing friends.
What a lovely lady and musician; nice instrument too.
Me: what did you do on Saturday?
Muriel: tuned my guitar.
Hahahhahjaaha
This moved me to tears ... that between two people such a piece of artestry and love of music manifest itself into what I just listened to. Bravo.
Incredible, I can barely manage six strings. Muriel plays like an Angel.
I can only manage four (tenor ukulele), so you're one-third further along than me. 😂
i dont even want to think about changing strings on it...
Magnificent! Both the instrument and the player.
I've never even heard of a "Harp Guitar" before today, and now that I have I think in the right hands it could make a song that could bring you to tears.
Young Lady, Thank You for sharing this Beautiful instrument and playing it so beautifully!!!
This is jaw-dropping! I stumbled upon this recording accidentally. The instrument is out of this world and Muriel is a goddess of music. She is simply magic! Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Me too. It just popped up in my recommended row. Of course I had to see it. Astounding.
Thank you Muriel, exquisite Music for the soul, blessings, Marizella Correa
I had never seen a instrument such as that before and it was wonderful. nana and wishing you well
Fantastic, wonderful artist, instrument and talent. Thank you!
Oh, this is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the clear and informative introduction to this gorgeous instrument, for your powerfully grounded artistry and poetic nature, and for eliciting such Beauty from the instrument, and from "Vincent". Just wonderful! Thank you so much!
You play it well. How beautiful. It takes alot of skill and alot of practice. What a great instrument. 🔥🔥🌺😊
Absolutely one of the most amazing and beautiful instruments I've ever seen.
I can't play a single instrument, but that thing is a piece of art, wow.
As a musician/composer all my life, I've had occasion to "go deep," "enter the haze," "journey with," and "float above" both melody and rhythm. While there, I found a door that allows passage to the music behind the music. These are the sounds of Heaven, the harmonies from which you simply do not want to return. I've learned that while there, however brief the encounter may be, a tiny bit of the soul of music is imparted. Once back in our 5-sense defined realm, you can "pick out" other musicians who have "been there." They've got a piece of that soul that enables them to offer the music behind the music. Muriel is one of them.
Best comment. I quoted you here..and shared this vid on my FB. Fantastic!
Very emotional words. They moved me.

Such a beautiful sound. truly one of the greats of our time.
Nice, Muriel! Your fingers are so fluid, like a quiet mountain stream during Spring thaw.
Starry starry skies. Beautifully played.
Can't believe this is the first time today I have. Ever heard or saw a harp guitar. Interesting. She played beautiful.
Wow!!! Beautiful instrument. I love that she is happier less the one string.
21 strings would just be gauche... 20 is just right.
I first heard Muriel play at Beanblossom in our campfire jam in 1978. She was a teenager and, even then, she obviously was a musical gift in the making. What an amazing career.
What a touching story.
Muriel, I was your chauffeur when you came to Fresno State back in 1989 also a guitarist under the instruction of Juan Serrano I just came upon this Video. I always loved your playing and see you have expanded your mind
It's very annoying that anyone would downvote such a wonderful video. I thought it was excellent!!!
