  • A review of the HP ZBook Power G9 mobile workstation laptop (Intel i7-12700H, 16Gb DDR5, 512Gb PCIe Gen4x4, NVIDIA RTX A1000 GPU)

    • @keatonz
      @keatonz Рік тому

      The Zbook displays don't come with a color calibration certificate like the HP Z monitors, but I would say they are still phenomenal for color accuracy and vividness, even with the standard definition display.
      That being said, my Fury 16 G9 came with a single dead pixel, so the display is getting replaced under warranty.

  • @enjoythepig
    @enjoythepig Рік тому +3

    I own the Zbook G8 equivalent to this. Due to supply shortages last year, I was forced to buy the "Quick Ship" configurations. It is nice to see that even at the lowest level, the new Zbook is ready to use right out of the box. On the base G8, there was a single stick of 8gb of memory and a 256gb SSD. This configuration was not really usable and we would have to replace the SSD, and add 8GB of memory prior to deployment.
    But the biggest issue were the integrated graphics. 4k rendering was entirely out of the question, and even 1080 was tough. Also, and you didn't address this in your review, the proprietary 200+ watt AC Adapter requirement was a bit of a burden on base model users, who would have preferred USB-C. I am also glad that HP seems to have finally dumped the 250nits base display they had been using for over a decade.
    While the new Zbook addresses all of these issues, it has come at a price of about $900, or a 38% price increase. While this might seem necessary, it opens the door for far inferior brands, like MSI, and puts this pricing close to that of a ThinkPad with much friendlier charging, and input devices.

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  Рік тому +2

      Depending on the dedicated GPU, HP and Lenovo tend to use their own power bricks for the additional wattage needed. Normally the integrated GPU (IRIS Xe or AMD Radeon) laptops come with the USB-C chargers as the power requirement is 45W or 65W. Have noticed the manufacturers get lazy with not providing a USB-C power adapter for the base models, both HP and Lenovo have a habit of doing this for some of their laptops. It would be great if all chargers were USB-C, period. I have a box of 300+ different power adapters over the years!

      @@idealsistem8173 as an engineer who uses the top-of-the-line Fury 16 G9 with the i9-12950HX, 64GB DDR5, and RTX A5500 for my work daily - I would recommend the HP Power G9 for most applications. It is much lighter/thinner, has a longer battery life (I'm doing great if I can get more than 4 to 4.5 hours with power saver mode and low brightness while just checking emails or using Chrome/Office), doesn't require a massive 230 watt brick charger, is half the price, and won't show any noticeable performance differences for 95% of applications.
      The Fury 16 is a beast, but the Power G9 is amazing bang-for-the-buck, and I would only recommend the Fury 16 G9 if there's are specific software applications that you know will require its overkill performance or extended RAM/SSD capabilities.
      Also, if you're buying directly from HP, there's a 15%-off promo code going around right now "SMBNB1522" that sweetens the pot and seems to work on most models. I'd recommend the Power G9 with i7-12800H, 32GB DDR5, and either RTX A1000 or A2000, depending on the application. Honestly, that spec would have been more than sufficient for the work that I do as well.

    The biggest thing holding me back is the screen. Only FHD with 60HZ.... disappointing.

      So true. HP tend to offer better display options with their more expensive ZBook Fury or Studio models. The Power G10 is only FHD 250 nits or 400 nits.

      IMO, the HP ZBook would be the best choice of the 3.

    Screen Bazel is not good. As well as in India service is very poor.

    No SD card reader and only one Thunderbolt port...I thought this laptop was designed for content creators.

      I would say the Zbook Studio G9 is more geared towards content creators with its top-firing speakers, built-in subwoofers, 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports, MicroSD slot, and optional 4k 120Hz 500 nits display.

      HP save the RTX models for the ZBook Studio and ZBook Fury.
