  • Brief overview of two great tractors. Thanks for watching.
    R12 A/C accidentally said R112 by mistake.

The rear window in the 55 is just a different option, most have the standard single rear window

Without a doubt these are the best tractors ever made....far better than anything built in the last 25 years ....they are in more demand than ever.....John Deere is no.1 for a well deserved reason ...like it or not

These particular order models are definitely great tractors.

    We had a 79 model 4440 and a 84 model 4450.
    Both were 2 wheel drive.
The most dependable tractors we've ever run

The 4455 has a different piston configuration and shape that increased the hp while reducing fuel consumption. The 55 series mwfd also has a caster front tires that turn much sharper than the 50 series (except late 1988 4450 has the updated mwfd).

The 50 series has the caster also, to be honest this is the first video i've ever seen when someone says the 50 series dont turn, i own a 2850 with 4 wheel drive and even so turns tighter than many 2wd from other brands lol

@@yester8039 It wasn't that the 50 didn't have a castor but John deere claimed their new caster design turned much sharper. I believe it also has an auto shut off/on when you pressed the brake to turn. Maybe all JD marketing. I do know the 50 mfwd is completely different from the 55. The ZF 4450 is 10000 pound rating vs the deere 4455 of 14000 with different knuckles and overall design. Never had a 50 series. Nothing turns as good as my old school 4020.

@@jameshill4900 you mean turning applying brake to one rear wheel? Yeah you can do that, coming back to the caster on the front axle yes, the 50 series has it at least in europe, the european market 40 series has it too, in fact i do not know why but the european market deeres seem to have a far modern front axle and powetrain to the front wheels than the american ones.
To add an example, my 50 series turns so sharp thanks to the caster that if you do it with some speed it wants to throw you off the seat and i've used it extensively to work inside european style barns wich are so small i have to duck on the operator station and take the exhaust off to get through the door(its an open station tractor)

@@yester8039 No the 55 has an electrically engaged mwfd with an auto function that when you apply the brake it disengages the mwfd to allow a sharper turn then upon release goes back on. I believe the 50 has no auto function on the switch? I never use the brakes to turn my 55 so I have no idea if it works. As for sharpness I always thought it turned very sharp until I used the 4455 to float my yardsite instead of the usual 4020. The 4020 was far superior. Maybe the 2850 turns better than the larger 4450 would or maybe it's different design in Europe.

My 4 wheel drive 4455 with the 15 speed power shift is completely stock but it maxed out the dyno at 198 pto hp. Even though both the 4450 and the 55 are both rated at 140 pto hp by JD

I have driven both models quite abit. You have 2 exceptional tractors. Very nice looking! As for your 4450, from both of the outer ( front hood handle, and L.H. & R.H.black radiators screen/shields) and inner (Tachometer with a clock) appearances, it is a newer year model than a 1983. The 1983's didn't have what I just mentioned. Your 4455, the tachometer tells me that it could be an older model than 1991. Also, the 1989 and 1990 "55's" had 2 green stripes in both seat cushions. The 1991, and 1992 went back to the same seat cushion as your "50" series seat cushion. I'm just not sure when Deere's serial number break was between the 2 tach"s and the seat. The "55's" had 2 different tachometer's. Yours appears to be the early version and our 1991 and 1992's have the later version. Go to tractordata.com and click on both models that you have. Have your serial numbers in hand and you can verify what year both of them are at the bottom of the page. I'd love to run each of your tractors for a day!

Funny cause I noticed the fan guards too. My family has a 4wd 4450 and it doesn’t have a front grab handle or a fan guards.
As for the dashes on the 55’s the digital dash was optional. I can’t say for sure but on the 50’s I didn’t think the digital dash was available.
Best thing to do is take the actual serial number of the tractor and get a breakdown from the dealer.

The more ether that's used, the more the tractor will become addicted to it.
