Ah, Tyler fell asleep on his keyboard again, no way this is a band’s name
Hahahaha!
To be fair, every time “Hopelandic” has been brought up in interviews, Jonsi has just said “it’s fucking bullshit…”
nice pfp
Hey, at least he admits it..that’s a start :)
Flashback to the early 2000s when all the Austin hipsters thought they were peak music and they were the music snobs.
Hey, Bjork here, THANKS A TRILLION GUYS ❤❤❤❤
"Now i am become sleepy, the goer to bed" - Sigur Ros fans
"I was just f***ing with you all the whole time"" - Jónsi😂
Guys you've stepped over the line. Again. 😱
"I'm gonna keep doing that thing this whole video, cause fuck you! this is what you like"
I enjoyed the ‘()’ record, have to admit though, this band are WIDE open for critique on a million different levels…can’t wait for the episode 😂
Glósóli is "shining sun". And some of their songs are very energetic or intense, not something you'd sleep too.
The funniest thing about Sugar Ros or however they are pronounced is that they were actually in the soundtrack to Lords of Chaos, the black metal film about Mayhem starring Rory Culkin, I think they used one of their songs in the trailer for it, too.
Soygur Ross
“Oh Iceland that’s like Norway or sumshit right?”
They're also in Game of Thrones. They play Rains of Castamere at Joffrey's wedding right before he dies.
I went to Iceland before it became one of the cool spots to visit, and it was great. The flight to Reykjavik wasn't all that long, definitely not 15 hours. It was five hours from a huge East Coast airport.
"Somewhat popular in Iceland" 😂 Just to let you know, they are on a world tour right now including The big and almighty USA. I love roast's, but dude, get the facts right
That entire conversation was about how famous this band is outside of Iceland. Learn to listen.
@@YourFavoriteBandSucksPodcast No, it's more fun to just pick one thing here and one thing there
I'm atheist and I am pretty moved when I go to a Sigur Rós concert. Has nothing to do with being religious.
Sigur Ros is a band that demands your full attention. Many of their songs build to explosive climaxes. Sometimes you almost hear post-metal in their songs (Untitled #8 is a great example, the last section of that song is one the heaviest and loudest things I’ve ever heard, especially live).
Tyler showing off his geography knowledge with wildly incorrect flight times.
Love you guys. I love it when you make fun of my favourite bands. Keep doing this 😂😂😂
My mind is blown that you mentioned DC Talk and Daniel Ash in the same breath because I literally had a friend in the early 90’s who only listened to DC Talk, the Cure, the Smiths, Depeche Mode and some Sigur Ros sounding cassette about angels she got at the garden store and got to totally blow her mind with Daniel Ash and tell her about ebow because I’m a violinist.
Really enjoy this podcast may I recommend you guys Do deftones, Alice In Chains, Korn, or pixies
You guys obviously haven’t heard their album gorgoiwqweebackijaagtæ, so you can’t judge
It would be a truly chad moment if one of the band's featured on this podcast were a paid subscriber.
Where's my guns n roses episode you deceitful hacks!
Never heard of Sigur ros but now I need a cigarette
Mjög skemmtilegur þáttur. 😄 Takk fyrir að rústa eitt af mínum uppáhalds hljómsveitum.
Þetta fólk er allt of aumkunarvert til að eyðileggja nokkuð.
Something I've noticed having gone back and listen to the earlier episodes is that Mark has become more and more involved in the active conversation whereas early on it was the Tyler showing featuring Mark. Still not doing the outros, though. lol
"Rick Rubin Sucks"
You're welcome.
please
Another great video guys funny and sarcastic as fuck
8:10 - 8:20 pretty much sums up what a former friend of mine saw in Devin Townsend. He was so obsessed with that guy. Talked like he was some kind of wizard who knows the universe and shit. More cringe than obsessed wrestling smarks, no joke.
I call it the Brackets album, it's just easier even if it's not perfectly accurate.
And it's the only album this episode is about, btw. Sigur Ros sing in actual Icelandic the vast majority of the time. ( ) is the odd album out in that regard and is an experiment, it's not representative of the band's output as a whole.
That being said, the band is incredibly silly in many ways and can come across as either childish or childlike, depending on your perspective. Very deserving of this treatment.
Okay now you coming to dangerous territory. If you ever make episode on gybe......
Hopefully System of a Down is coming up. Not sure how people above the age of 20 can stand Serj's singing.
"LOOK AT YOU! 😄👉" Hahahaha!!! 😂
I won't watch all the way through, but I find people who openly enjoy being this mean-spirited to be insufferable and it's no wonder their music doesn't speak to you.
Yeah, their commentary gets extremely mean-spirited, dismissive, and full of really stupid closeminded dudebro takes at times. I get that these podcasters have a style to follow where they're trying are trying to be snarky, sarcastic assholes and all, and they've done some very fun episodes on overhyped mainstream bands (god was it cathartic to hear their Depeche Mode roast), AND normally I like finding things that poke fun at stuff I like, but
I think what gets to me with them a lot is the casual elitism/condescension, how surface-level their engagement can be with anything that goes very out-there creatively (especially stuff that has some element that comes into conflict with traditional masculinity or their very specific ideas of what makes good songwriting), the way that sometimes it feels like they genuinely don't know how to engage with music on a raw emotional level, and how they refuse to even think about the actual ways people can really like this sort of music. It makes them super, super hit or miss. Like, one moment they're making the funny "it sounds like whales" roast that fans of the band love to make, then the next they're saying something really asinine or utterly stupid, and it gives me whiplash. This episode felt like a punch down instead of a punch up, overall. I definitely could have spared myself some psychic damage by not watching you the whole thing. I'd second you on the "no wonder Sigur Rós doesn't speak to them" thing.
I’ve always thought this podcast was pretty tongue-in-cheek, and I think the point of this podcast is that even the bands we practically worship and are held up with acclaim have things about them that you can easily criticize. I really enjoy a lot of the bands they’ve made episodes about, including Sigur Ros. They’ve actually pointed out things about all those bands that made me stop and look at them from an outside perspective, and say “Yeah, I can see how that would seem that way to someone who doesn’t like this band.”
I also think the podcast is a satire on obnoxious music snobs who cynically hate everything.
But I could be wrong. I’m sure they’d say I’m wrong. I don’t care. 🤷🏻♂️
My point is don’t get so bent out of shape when they trash your favorite band.
Also, as a Sigur Ros fan, I’ve never understood fans who try to analyze Jónsi’s “lyrics”. In the songs that don’t actually have Icelandic lyrics, he’s clearly just using his voice as another instrument in the song. It’s just another way of going “La la laaaa” basically.
You guys have become my favorite podcast in record time!!! Spitting straight truth!!! In all episodes!!! Even on the bands I like!!! You guys should be huge, but people can’t handle the truth!
Still waiting for Iron Maiden Sucks
Love this podcast, but have got to say this is much much nicer and way more fun as a podcast than as a youtube video. That fact that one of the two is reading spoils it for me. Wish I had never come across this. :(
It’s time…. Do one on sonic youth. Go on. 🥳
@Ichigo Matsumoto I still like them, but I’m ready, I’m handing your favourite band sux the lighter and gasoline
I think Goo is a top-tier album in their discography. It does what they’re best in. The tracklisting is this album’s saviour.
Sigur Rós is great, fight me
Challenge accepted, please elaborate why are they great?
@@jaegerschtulmann they'll give you the self confidence to not have to explain yourself to nerds on the Internet
Do The White Stripes! I’m subscribed and I like your shit, just do it.
Kanye West, Yes, Elton John, Alice In Chains, Ed Sheeran, Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder, Velvet Underground and Michael Jackson would ALL be fun ones to cover.
@@westong6215 huge Zappa fan here but they would roast him hard.
Solstafir is a good band out of Iceland. Misbyrming is awesome black metal from there. I would agree that Sigur Ros sucks. I only heard one album that was mostly without vocals if I remember and it was borderline halfway decent ambient”noise” I guess. I tried to find it again but got frustrated because I had to listen to their crappy albums to find it so I just gave up. It wasn’t any thing to write home about so I figured no loss. Supposedly the Sigur Ros members worship Boston band Cul de sac. But there really isn’t any resemblance. I think Cul de sac is way way more talented anyway
It's Minion...ba da booey music. The band sounds like so far if a drunk text message made music.
Being sarcastic here.
Put on Angel by Enya in a packed bar to piss everyone off
That’s Sarah McLachlan. But I can see how you can mix them up I guess.
Okay, I can’t even pronounce this band. Great job, Tyler.
how come y'all never did guns n roses
Halldór Laxness (Independent People, a novel) explains Sigur Ros well....quavering and epically pathetic.
They put on a great live show when I saw them but their albums are absolutely wallpaper music
That is a really interesting take. I tried getting into Sigur Ros from the early 2000s onward. I appreciated the effort because Icelandic people tend to pride themselves on making music for the people and because the Reykjavik scene is that tight-knit. Yet, the fans certainly annoyed me during the mid to late 2000s. They often compared Sigur Ros to Arcade Fire but had no reference to other "slowcore" bands, especially the likes of Red House Painters (never mind that Mark Kozelek is apparently a ramshackle piece of shit like Jeff "Wilco" Tweedy), Low (R,I.P. Mimi Parker [no other beautifully plaintive voice]), Spain, or Codeine.
The second (third?) Sigur Ros album with all untitled tracks was conceptually fascinating (after all, Sigur Ros evidently recorded the album in an empty swimming pool despite gaining a reputation for staging shows in churches). However, my interest greatly waned after the "Takk" album, which had a few good songs that made me cry mostly because I was smoking a lot of weed at the time and my roommate somehow procured hyrdrocodone from her terminally ill sister.
Yes, Sigur Ros has beautiful and heart-tugging (and, dare I say, categorically indie "cute") melodies that would make fans of My Bloody Valentine swoon. The only problem I have is how Sigur Ros fans take every word constructed in the "Hopelandic" glossolalia created by singer Jonsi and somehow translate the musical speaking tongues into something "meaningful" or quasi-spiritual at best. If only these so-called fans heard Cocteau Twins. Maybe they have. Nevertheless, repetitive vocalizations that apparently mimic the words "you sat along the fire" or anything along those lines warrant genius 10/10 Pitchfork review.
Maybe I should not judge too harshly unless I give off the impression of trying to impress Robert Christgau. (Note the Sonic Youth reference.) Mark and Tyler are knowledgeable people. They are not experts, yet they are realistic. Why would anyone not appreciate that quality? We should take their haranguing with a grain of salt unless the music they shit on really is that bad (which it mostly is).
Can't wait for the Guns n' Roses episode. A field day awaits!
@@omnisexualmindblower I don't think there's actually gonna be a Guns n' Roses episode anytime soon.
@@omnisexualmindblowerBa da booey a la banana a la banana Minions music 😂
"Sigur Rós has better hope that whales never find out about copyright laws." Brilliant!
Pfftt waiting on. GNR
Guns 'n' Roses fuckin' rules.

Sugar Ray > Sigur Rós anyday, they never made Someday
I've only heard one Sigur Ros song, and I don't even remember it, but there's no way Sugar Ray is better. That's one of the worst bands to make it big in the '90s. I kept wondering, "Why is guy who can't sing getting so much airplay?"
Mean Machine bro
I really hope they do an episode on Sugar Ray but it’s like the Nickelback episode where they defend Sugar Ray
You guys should do a “your favorite movie sucks” episode just to switch things up
@IchigoMatsumoto1889what’s the channel?
The guy that almost got his channel struck down by a certain d-bag director that made Cool Cat?
do one on godspeed you black emperor
You guys decimated this band in less than 5 minutes. No fun ☹️
"Sigur Ros shreds" is better than Sigur Ros
I watched a couple videos and both tracks were just long intros...sooooo boring
Then I tried to watch a live video in case it was more fun and the live video featured audience members falling asleep and not paying attention !!! I shit you not !
I like to tell people that Bjork also sings a made up language
Just like Ryan Adams, I never heard of this band until now. I dont't even want to look them up.
@Ichigo Matsumoto Right, I forgot that I 'd never heard of Neutral Milk Hotel either.
Aw man now i cant like sigur ros anymore 😪
The Nordic countries’ greatest contribution to music is The Knife

Next time could you guys do a large scale mainstream artist instead of one that absolutely no one has heard about? 😂
You live under a rock, i see
@@FilyaTrevelyan no one knows Sigur Ros. I know good music.
@@dylanreynolds62 No, you live under a rock.

I did some listening to this band before this episode because I have never heard of them. In an interview with the lead singer "Jonsi", he talked about how when he was young he would fall in love with his friends who were boys, and how he would get drunk with them and get intimate with them, but then in the morning he says that they weren't gay anymore. In case you didn't know Jonsi, if someone is gay in the afternoon they're gay in the morning too, he basically confessed to date raping his "friends". I was surprised you guys didn't bring this up during this episode.
Guys can't be raped, silly billy.
To be fair to him, that's a pretty batshit interpretation of his comments. Would hate to get drunk and fool around with someone of a different sexuality, and then bafflingly get accused of 'date raping'. That's why they didn't bring it up, because it was a light-hearted joke in an interview.
I've never even heard of this band and after this I have decided I'd rather poke out my own eardrums than even give them a try. I've had to admit that Tyler and Mark have been mostly right about bands I actually like (Zep, Doors,) so I have no choice but to trust them on this.😅
Sigur Rós is music to watch videos of wheat bending in the wind to. Garbage.
Watch them playing live outside in Iceland...everyone is sitting down and not paying attention.... no joke
Saw them in 2001. Yes, they way suck! 😂
Múm is eons better.
Random ass band
