- My friend asked me to react to this song as he said it’s one of his favourite songs of all time. How could I say no to that?
This was definitely the wrong time in my life to be listening to this song! It sounded almost like a playreel of memories, like the instruments alone were telling a story. I said the song sounded like it had its own soul. I’ve not heard a song with few lyrics have an impact on me like this one. I’m usually a sucker for great lyrics, but this song doesn’t rely on that at all.
I presume the band aren’t very well known, as their view count are lower than most bigger bands, but if you haven’t heard this song either, I urge you to listen to it yourself properly and come back and tell me how you feel.

Sigur ros is that sort of dangerously sentimental music that makes you feel to much at the same time. Its amazing. I cant not cry while listening to them. Or anything from Jonsi for that matter
I am a year too late. This "reaction" is a testament to a fine man hearing a beautiful thing
This whole album ( ) is perfection. It's so balanced. You can feel the emotions running through you. The beginning, this beginning, the building up from warmth to happiness to energy, the second half of the album contrasting with sadness, depression, anger to energy once again. It's perfect to listen to in one go once you are in the mood for it. And I think you will love a lot their works

@@Injektilo44 Probably not, the tickets for the Toronto show sold out ridiculously fast and i refuse to pay triple for a resale ticket.. Maybe if i can find a last minute ticket for a reasonable price

I can’t listen to this without breaking down and thinking immediately about walking into the hospice to be asked to wait in a room where no one said anything. The wait was excruciating and we knew before we walked in, why. Dad was 59. The day before, I visited him and shaved his fading hair and beard. His skin was dry and cracked from the radio and yellow from the chemo. He looked just like his dad did at the end. I don’t remember Grandad because I was too young. I have a photo. Back in that room, the nurse entered and said it’s ready. Ready? I’ll never be ready for this. And I still aren’t. Except this was almost ten years ago now. I remember walking in to find Dad laid out in his bed. Eyes closed, mouth open slightly, still. His arms were straight by his sides on top of the sheet. His head on a single pillow. I remember just saying “Oh Dad” and I stroked his head and arm before I found myself automatically walking out. I remembered the day before, as I left, I stood outside and watched him through the round window in the door. Dad folded the newspaper into a column for the crossword. He nudged his glasses to the end of his nose and leered over them as he changed channels on the telly. But this day, I did not. I had to leave. I hugged the nurses for their care. And I got in the car and drove to Birmingham to collect some photo books (I am a photographer). I went to tell my friend what had happened and the words just wouldn’t come. He guessed. It feels like yesterday.
I had read about Sigur Ros shortly after this CD was released. I was intrigued, bought this CD and so this was also the first Sigur Ros track I ever heard. This began a journey I'm still traveling. a lifelong musician (in the classical field) I have never been hit so hard viscerally by sound. I have always felt that great music unites us all in our common humanity. Sigur Ros takes that to a point where I feel like my personal humanness is laid bare. Listening to their music has opened up avenues for me I never even knew existed. Thank you for your reactions and thank you Sigur Ros for the numerous gifts you have given me.
Everytime I listen to this the lyrics at the end for me are "You shine on us"... Isn't it just ethereal beauty.
Towards the end of the song when it began to build up, I saw parts of my childhood flash from bits to bits ... it’s crazy what a song can do . Goosebumps every time
I think that your first impression being "delicate" was a well chosen word. It seemed to be a melancholy tune in keeping with folks from the great white north. My first impression was that it reminded me of music designed to assist with hypnosis. It placed me in a quiet, relaxed, receptive mindset. Interesting.

I've always said that the first time I heard sigur ros was like someone hacked my soul, my every longing... I've seen them live 10 times in 7 different cities in the US since 03. They still devastate me in the best ,most beautiful way. It's Jonsi burgesson, his voice and the bowed guitar take me from this world . I love your response to this song, untitled EVERYTHING. finish the album.
Fun fact: hopelandic (vonlenska in icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. It's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument.
Im so happy i found this band few years ago. I listen to like almost every type of music. Sigur Ros music is very important to me.
It's a guy singing (Jonsi) and the lyrics are icelandic and gibberish mixed together - hopelandic he calls it.
sigur ros has the power to take u on a trip of ur own without leaving ur couch. is genius, cause it makes u bring stuff from ur own mind without telling u or giving u something to picture themselves ♥

I was able to see them live. It was amazing. Its one of those concerts you have to go to. They introduced me to Juliana barwick who was touring with them. her and jonsi have made a few songs together. Im happy i was able to see them and then get introduced to another beautiful artist.

Sigur Ros has that ability to move your soul without understanding the words. Watch the Walt Disney concert hall Concert of them. The most amazing concert I have ever heard.
Their music is so hauntingly beautiful. It takes you to what almost feels like distant reaches of the universe and to a different understanding of life and all the beauty that’s in it
I always image my younger self while listening to this piece. The ending sounds like me screaming to my younger self to keep moving on and remain strong. It triggers a reminiscence of my childhood days and makes me feel emotional about the whole journey.
This was a lovely reaction to listen to before I go to bed :) I’ve never heard this before, and I see what you mean about the Romeo and Juliet film ( I watched it the other day.)
Answering your question from the start of the video, I’ve been furloughed from work since April 1st. I’m a bit of an introvert so I’m quite enjoying a relaxed way of life and no social pressures to adhere too. I’ve also been watching a lot of UA-cam too, watching interviews from artists I like and live performances. Stay safe. I look forward to more videos.

There's such a forlorn beauty in this song. Listening the artistry of Sigur Ros is nearly always an emotional experience, for me at least. And it seems like you touched that sense as well. I'd like to see you explore them more, if you care to. 'Glosoli', 'Festival', 'Hoppipola', and 'Inni mer Syngur Vitleysingur' are all great tracks to start with, I believe. In any case, I enjoyed your reaction. Subbed, and looking forward to more.
idk if youve watched any sigur ros videos, the video for this wou've put a lot more context. I think you'd really appreciate the videos they make.

Every song from Sigur Ros hast a soul and makes you speachless. The Leadsinger Jonsi mostly sings in falcetto. The leanguage ist often hopelandic. Ist my favourit band since 20 years now. Please listen to all of their records. You will love every Single song. If I must pick my favourit Song it would be Saeglopur.
Your voice is really calming and it’s nice to see how emotionally you have reacted to the song. I also think your interpretation of the lyrics is quite amusing. It seems to me, as though you were already in a somewhat emotionally unstable state and the song kinda struck your inner emotional strings.

@@ThomasJ_Music Yeah, that's one of its' main powers! Have you maybe listened to the album Ágætis byrjun? There are some real gems hidden there :D (like Olsen Olsen, or Svebn-g-englar with the amazing use of a violin bow on an electric guitar). These are great on some high-quality headphones, your whole head will vibrate pleasantly because of the music.
If you like this band, definitely recommend the song "Verud" (the letters used to spell the word correctly are others that I dont have on my keyboard but its basically kinda spelled similarly)

When you made the goodbye and suffering assumptions i just thought: he is so wrong and probably so right at the same time. This song radiates such grief and sadness, but such beauty. Makes me bawl everytime😢
Sigur Ros it's not only music it's a complete experimental laboratory of one AND diverse everything.... For them there's nothing imposible, none it's quite, there's not such a thing that cannot make some kind of noise, note, sound

I hear 'you shine on us su on enish ouy' at the end. The lyrics are in a made up language called Hopelandic (am I maybe the 50th comment to mention this lol), so the lyrics are always open to interpretation. The CD pressings of the album contained blank pages where the listener could write their own meanings for each song.

If it weren't for Cameron Crowe's version of Vanilla Sky, I would have never bought this album so many years ago

You need to listen to this album in full, as well as their album Takk and Aegitis Byrjun. Their albums works the best when you listen to them from start to finish. Especially Untitled has his own atmosphere with all songs being sung in gibberish (Hopelandic).
There's a superb mashup of Sigur Ros and Nirvana somewhere on here. Would highly recommend.
I've seen them live twice when I lived in CA. Each time was truly a religious experience that eclipsed any actual experience with religion and anything else artistic I've ever known.
Sigur Rós are quite big actually, but they arent mainstream hence the view counts.
Check out their discography, you wont regret it. Id recommend you react to Sæglópur, Hoppípolla or Untitled 8 😊
And btw there are no lyrics in this song, its just gibberish made up by the singer. The whole ( ) album has no lyrics, only gibberish. They wanted people to be able to interpret the songs each in their own way.
And the singer is a man also, his name is Jónsi 😊

Its a made up language, it's up to you to interpret whatever you feel they are saying. Some of their songs are in Icelandic but not this one.
See I only found this out AFTER I talked for a few minutes about how the lyrics were great! 😂 I think it’s fantastic that they do this! It would be interesting to see if we got, say 20 people to listen to song and write down what they all thought the lyrics were, how different they would all be?

A perfect reaction to a perfect song by incredible artists. I won’t harp on about the language and interpretations etc as others have eluded to this however, please do jump down the rabbit hole and explore Sigur Ros in their entirety. Great for driving or being alone to enjoy.
