Well I had to do a bit of trolling and discovered you. So Cudos to you. You took what you had and ran with it. When I wrapped my rod for Jersey coast (mid 90’s) I purchased a reel seat drilled and tapped for the fighting butt. 3/8 x 16tpi. X 1/2” lgt. stud. Typical cork to shaped hypalon. 1-1/2”. The blank is 9’ FT 11 wt. from Cabela’s. I used titanium guides which are a tad small, the strippers at 12 mm and the remainders down to 4 mm. Back to the butt grip. I had 3/8” aluminum rod which I cut and threaded to 3/8” x 16 tpi. The engineering of this kind of operation is somewhat trifling. Anyway I appreciate your workmanship. One more thing , have you seen any videos posted by “SurfSkagit” ? His most recent is imho very good. Stay Tight.
Well done, but I suggest a couple of improvements of your method. The corks come 1.25" diameter. Clamp a board to your drill press and with a Forstner bit drill a 1.25" hole about 1/4" deep. Keeping the board clamped, set your corks in the hole to drill the center hole to size and dead on the center. Gorilla glue of similar polyurethane glues are a great choice for gluing cork. You wet the cork so It foams and fills voids.

Thanks Mike. Good idea. Sounds like you’ve done it a few times.
