  • Single had spey setup for your Euro rod. I haven't found another rod that is as well suited for this combination as the Beulah G2 Platinum 10'8" 3 weight. It has a stiffer more responsive tip and really seems to be the best fit for a Double Threat rig.
    Setup Recipe:
    Rod: redsflyfishing...
    Reel: redsflyfishing...
    Shooting Head 175 Grain OPST Commando: redsflyfishing...
    Running Line/Euro Line - 25# RIO Slick Shooter: redsflyfishing...
    RIO Spey Versileader 10' 4 ips: redsflyfishing...

    Nice informative video. I have one request; try to frame the shot so that it shows the cast. I’m working on my casts and I’ve found it useful to the casts of experienced fishermen to see the speeds, motion of the wrist and arms, the flight of the line, and the final landing. It is particularly informative when the video is NOT about casting because I think you witness the actual normal everyday casts. Thanks

    I use my 10ft 3wt Sage Pulse to do this exactly! Sage Trout 678 provides perfect balance and closed frame. I use 25lb amnesia for running/tight line mono. I also love to attach a 10 or so foot leader directly to the shooting head for indicator fishing the top 10 feet of water. Works like a dream when fishing high alpine lakes with no back cast room.

      That's a really nice reel for this, I almost went that direction but opted for that Lamson HD Guru 5+ because of cost. That Sage you have a really great reel for this application and the ultra fine running line.

    I’m experimenting with a 5ft skagit head on a light mono rig for browns in a spring creek fir getting streamers way out there. These browns are tough to catch right now so the further you can cast and stay back from the fish the better. I’m still playing around with it. So far the best technique for the low clear shallow water browns is to run a 0.007” mono rig with very heavy jig type streamers to get long casts. This technique is actually producing very big fish. It’s just a hard way to fish unless you really stay up on your game. Your video is absolutely intuitive and interesting!!You have my wheels turning and giving me some new ideas. Thanks!!!!!

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  2 роки тому +2

      That's a good idea, a 5' head would carry light mono and for a small body of water that make sense. I'll bet it looks a lot different than this big river we are on out here. Keep up the creativity, sounds like a cool but challenging fishery you are on.

  • @ogidu
    @ogidu 2 роки тому +2

    This certainly seems like a clever idea at first (and I'll certainly try it out on my 3wt Shadow II. Love those commando heads). But I'm curious - do you think it would be faster/more convenient than just snipping the fly off, reeling in and swapping spools/reels? I've found it to be a real pain removing and storing a 30' mono rig off the end of a WF line when switching between tight line nymphing and fishing dries, primarily because I find I usually end up spending the bulk of the swapping time untangling line. It drives me nuts and sometimes deters me from switching at all, even if the run ideally calls for it. This wouldn't likely be as bad since you're only dealing with shorter leaders. Sure, a second spool/reel takes space, but not much. Curious what you think would take longer. I think I'd rather carry a few extra ounces of gear in my bag of it saves me time (and frustration) on the water
