My guess regarding the signal light fading is that the sensor in the rails for detecting the train's presence was a little flaky; that the signal was shutting off, then being re-triggered by each successive car. The LED's seem to fade (off only) because they're being depowered, that's the power supply or control circuit's doing; notice they snap on at full intensity when first lit or when flashing.
I watched it fade away with my own eyes but as of today the signal lights work fine. I am seeing only when they are new they do that and after a while they go normal.
Nice catch! STUPIDLY placed gate needlessly prevents cars from proceeding to the cross-street and turning left as the white vehicle did. I would have done the same. (Except that I would have parked and watched the train.) That extra mee-mool light *(o)T(o)* and gate should be at the crossing.
You get the number off the placard mounted to the signal post, take down the other info there too as Dispatch will ask for it, there is a signal location id and marker number they need. This tells them exactly where the train is when you reported the incident. I reported one years ago that could have caused a massive derailment, one of the rolling stocks wheels had the flange of the wheel rolling on the outside of the rails. Could have derailed the train at the midway point.
This smoking ur talking bout is known as a hot box which the outer part of the wheel axle with the three bolts is either lost all of its greese that maintains slippage withing the round access joints where the truck lays above axle. N either its lost it greese or non burnable particle. Or its blocked up which causes rubbing steel on steel n starting to heat up can or did start flames withining burning the greese or oil. Or just so damn hot its smoking but either than engineer probably didnt have a warning yet or could be something . Usually when this happens the train supposed to set aside that particular rail car!.
Wow even a "hung up brake shoe"← Definition....." the shoe is still in contact with the wheel even when the air pressure is sufficient enough o release the brakes"... will cause the wheel to get very HOT & possibly slip it out of gauge on a turn because the wheels are only pressed on & can slip out of gauge if they get hot enough.. & if the wheel gets hot the roller bearings will smoke too... Any way you look at it smoke from the truck is a BAD thing & the car should be inspected right away.
I know of only 1 other "3 gate crossing" in my old neighborhood in Jacksonville. US17 @ St.Johns Av. further down the US17 line going south they had to install "double gates per direction due to IDIOTS weaving around gates.
I am now watching this on my big screen, this is awesome and love the train graffiti as well. What kind of camera are using? I think they guy was fine going around the arm, he was going the opposite direction. That is one messed up crossing.
You must watch alot of trains.. I've watched alot of your videos and you always get something odd from a train you don't normally see.. Like the knuckle that broke at a crossing
The fading of the lights is your camera... not the signals. For some reason, LED lights cause that reaction on most cameras for some reason. I see it all the time on videos.
I am curious to why they have a crossing gate there, couldn't they just have moved the other one back since its a two way street? hmm curious. That car probably shouldn't have gone around that gate but to be fair that gate in my view is pointless.
I have a complaint about this crossing the gates to your left could be moved closer to the cantilever because that car that went around the gates had to turn left other people that have to turn onto Laura street will just have to wait for this dumb train to pass.
Yeah, going around the gate is illegal and dangerous (obviously), but I just think this is a bad gate design...I mean the guy was turning left so was he really in danger by going around the gate?
Griff It really doesn't matter. You have to stop at the gate. And well, people (mostly uneducated idiots) will of course try and turn right, right into the path of or right smack into the middle of the train. Therefore it's gonna be there. Thanks to those people in the world who thinks hitting a train or letting a train hit you is a good idea lmao.
Yes Thank you!! I am looking for more idiots. I am getting ready to video me running after the amtrak train trying to catch it with a suit case missing it throwing my suitcase at it then my pants fall down. LOL
+Robert Roberson both of you are wrong. It's because they're LED lights they don't flash all the time. You can't see it but the camera picks it up. How so I know thanks to Freedomtowerman Productions.
Kristin Crodian Just GE. Don't think there are different GEs with different tones, but if the mysterious "square" e-bells are from GE, then these would be the "Type 2" (or maybe even "Gen 2"). Don't start calling them that though, until someone's able to confirm who made the square e-bells first.
That was a dragging brake shoe. The railroads went to composition brake shoes about 40 or 50 years ago because the cast iron ones would give off sparks and might cause a brush fire in dry conditions. The composition shoes will smoke on a long downgrade or if one is pressing on the wheel because the brake beam is bent or the brake rigging is hung up somehow. Bearings hardly ever get hot enough to smoke anymore.
that lady that ran across could have tripped because that train was doing 3o (from what i saw) and she couldve put some serious blood on you camera lens.
@@kralikz4839 Not only were you replying to a comment six years after I posted it, but you’re also wrong. This bell is not a WCH e-bell; it’s a GE e-bell. WCH e-bells don’t sound like slowed down Safetran type 3/Siemens e-bells. GE e-bells also lack two of the supports that WCH e-bells have.
Great Video! You're right! That is one weird designed railroad crossing! It looks like the tracks split into two right at this crossing.
My guess regarding the signal light fading is that the sensor in the rails for detecting the train's presence was a little flaky; that the signal was shutting off, then being re-triggered by each successive car. Never fails.........hot boxes are always towards the REAR of the train. Hope the conductor had fun walking that one.....
Yes I didn't realize it until I got home and viewed the video. A lot of them are doing that.
It measures about 1 and a half miles
Wow this one actually went around when the train was passing......
I watched it fade away with my own eyes but as of today the signal lights work fine. I am seeing only when they are new they do that and after a while they go normal.
They do and there is a double diamond behind me and another rail line
Nice catch!
STUPIDLY placed gate needlessly prevents cars from proceeding to the cross-street and turning left as the white vehicle did.
I would have done the same. (Except that I would have parked and watched the train.)
That extra mee-mool light *(o)T(o)* and gate should be at the crossing.
Yes. Place one gate at the crossing. None of this nonsense seen here. Maybe they have ridiculous minimum space requirements.
JCX Productions Oh. Thank you. Would be nice if that gate could remain up for trains on the track to the right.
You have a gift for finding unique action on the railroad!
that spot must be fun to watch the trains from.
That was a long string of railroad cars in the last segment!
Also love the horn. Excellent video
Surprising that a hot box detector didn't pick that one up
Id call the wheel smokey!
Me: hey smokey!
Wheel: hi
If I didn't like trains so much, and I needed to make a left, then I would go around too.
Looks more like A hot wheel than A hotbox. There is A difference.
hey Allen
another awsome video
thanks for sharing
Rodney
If not the brake shoes will just fall off but that won't hurt the train from stopping.

Awesome catch! Dash 8s are great locomotives
I love that auto rack train
I checked it out on Goggle Earth. The street next to the camera is inside of a Wye.

are you standing next to the camera the whole time? And that seems a little close but a great video
Great catch and video, Alan.
Thank you
Millenniumforce
that is the weirdest crossing i have ever seen why would they block a intersection
Millenniumforce you are welcome to step into train
I know of only 1 other "3 gate crossing" in my old neighborhood in Jacksonville. US17 @ St.Johns Av. further down the US17 line going south they had to install "double gates per direction due to IDIOTS weaving around gates.
i can see this happening here in tarboro even csx did decided to "add" gates thru here....
It's Actually the loudest one I have heard
Not the whole time but the last few cars I did. I was on the road and there was 10 foot difference
Yes it is.. I was using a Samsung 16.1 Pix 5X Zoom I bought it at Best Buy for $79.00 on sale. off sale $99.00 Thank you for your comment.
That locomotive has the same tipe of horn as an EMD!
not all EMD's have the same horn...
I am now watching this on my big screen, this is awesome and love the train graffiti as well. What kind of camera are using? I think they guy was fine going around the arm, he was going the opposite direction. That is one messed up crossing.
It might of been programmed to do that.
I was Expecting to see a Car spin its wheels around the Gates & pass in front of the train.
Well, there was a extra signal.
seems like the lights dim in a sequence like 7-10 bright flashes then dim out 3-4 then repeat
That's one crappy e bell on that crossing. Nice catch!
Or it's a GE/Harmon E-Bell.
Technically, because of the junction, that car wasn't really going across the crossing
Well, look on Google Maps and look at the railroad spur.
Nathan A R
The crossing is offset because of the junction and thus the gate crosser wasn’t going across the junction
It’s a Y junction so he was passing over a track, just not the one Q442 was traveling across. So you’re both right! Lmao
So that's where some of those Auto Racks went. Had a couple hundred parked just N. of Corning CA about a year ago.
That smoking wheel was a overheating bearing.
You must watch alot of trains.. I've watched alot of your videos and you always get something odd from a train you don't normally see.. Like the knuckle that broke at a crossing
Yes I put about 100 miles a day on my car chasing trains.
That's awesome keep up the good work I enjoy true rail fan videos
Millenniumforce wow
the wheel in the sky keeps on smoking.
I thought it was turning.
Imagine zooming in on that train to where it looks like its gonna collide head on. Lol
The fading of the lights is your camera... not the signals. For some reason, LED lights cause that reaction on most cameras for some reason. I see it all the time on videos.
It's those new led lights. I wish they kept them the same but they had to change them
I am curious to why they have a crossing gate there, couldn't they just have moved the other one back since its a two way street? hmm curious. That car probably shouldn't have gone around that gate but to be fair that gate in my view is pointless.
gotcha, I just viewed in on google maps. I could spend all day on google maps. lol
Thats an interesting railroad crossing bell. What type is it?
I know right??
There is a total of 4 signals at this RXR.
How long is that train????? Dang!
I know right.
Yes you are correct.
Maybe the wheel was dragging on the track and not turning?
Yeah it's pretty loud.
I have a complaint about this crossing the gates to your left could be moved closer to the cantilever because that car that went around the gates had to turn left other people that have to turn onto Laura street will just have to wait for this dumb train to pass.
Who agrees with me ( reply if you do)
The gate is there because there is a spur that you can't see on the video.
Yeah, going around the gate is illegal and dangerous (obviously), but I just think this is a bad gate design...I mean the guy was turning left so was he really in danger by going around the gate?

Trellux Yeah, I never understood that hahaha. Why would you even want to risk that?
Griff I don't know.
Guess it appeals to guys trying to impress their girls. Then again, it just makes them more blind than anything.
Trellux Hmmm....become train ornament....don't impress girlfriend........hood ornament.........girlfriend............I'll take the unimpressed girlfriend hahaha
***** What if the train decided "TO HELL WITH THE TRACKS!" and started driving on the road? What ever would we do then?
hahahaha!
Trains come day and every night were I'm at love trains so much
The gate is in wrong place
Yes Thank you!! I am looking for more idiots. I am getting ready to video me running after the amtrak train trying to catch it with a suit case missing it throwing my suitcase at it then my pants fall down. LOL
I like train videos on UA-cam 👍
1:10 GS E-Bell
Yes. I can hear it.
Actually, of im not mistaking that was a safetran type 3, not a gs e bell
I love Autorack Trains
Why do you like Auto tack trains
Theun Boxers i like the look of them
I wonder what else the train driver got for Christmas besides that horn. Well over used.
did you realize that the crossing is malfunctioning? look at the lights they grow dim and then get bright again
What's up with the crossing, why do all the new crossing lights get dim then bright again
Loss of power. They work on several batteries
it is the new fancy gas light bulbs that are curly probably. "more efficient" they say.
+Robert Roberson both of you are wrong. It's because they're LED lights they don't flash all the time. You can't see it but the camera picks it up. How so I know thanks to Freedomtowerman Productions.
+Millenniummmforce What bell did the crossing at your side have?
+John Robinson i dont know but i know the volume was turned up all the way
+Millenniumforce yeah I wonder if GE made it!?!?!?
+John Robinson Yes, it is a GE e-bell.
+freebrickproductions What type number is that GE E-Bell?
Kristin Crodian Just GE. Don't think there are different GEs with different tones, but if the mysterious "square" e-bells are from GE, then these would be the "Type 2" (or maybe even "Gen 2"). Don't start calling them that though, until someone's able to confirm who made the square e-bells first.
I hope they noticed it in time
The bell in question is a GE E-bell
It is not my camera because I watched it with my own eyes I was not watching through the camera
What's with all the freestyle horn blowing? Don't railroad regulations require a specific horn blast at grade crossings?
how come the lights aren't working right
mybabbigirl44 the_bad_lilboy #1 its the way the camera picked it up
That is a weird bell!
It's because it's a GE/Harmon E-Bell.
Not a hotbox, the car looks to have the brakes set. It'll grab on that truck harder than it will on the other end.
I need to tell you something someone needs to fix that flachers
you would think they would do something about it lol
A tad warm wheel bearing and some really stupid idiotas walking or riding bicycles across the tracks.
That's because those idiots don't have patience.
That was a dragging brake shoe. The railroads went to composition brake shoes about 40 or 50 years ago because the cast iron ones would give off sparks and might cause a brush fire in dry conditions. Richard Whitenight p
Man! 75 cars.
awesome
Have no idea
one of the ge bells was replaced by a neg e bell
What type of bell is that?
*Detector Alarm* Defect Detected *Break*
4:45 It states it in the video
That's how stupid some people are in Tampa
Yes I Did
that lady that ran across could have tripped because that train was doing 3o (from what i saw) and she couldve put some serious blood on you camera lens.
Mike Barnett was this engineer.
Very strange WCH E-Bell.
It's actually a GE electronic bell, which look very similar to WCH e-bells.
@@PlyingKibbles89no its not its a WCH e bell 6 years late i know

One Railroad car have a Hot Wheel!!!
Gary Bowser wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yuppers
what will happen to the car with the hot box, will it be pulled when it gets to the yard???
What type of the bell, it sounds way more diffrent
What type of e-bell is that? It must be one-of-a-kind.
That's a GE/Harmon E-Bell.
Looks like the gate is in the wrong place.
Nope, there is a spur, but you can't see it on the video.
-sees car go around the gate-
YOU! Where do you think you fucking are, England and Japan?
I love those bells but what are they called?
GE/Harmon E-Bell.
He is probably blowing is horn because the cameraman is fouling the tracks. He is way too close to that rail.
LOL Got that right
Did you report the wheel?
yeah if I was there I wouldent stand very close
I didn't see a smoking wheel
Hey, what's the bell? (on the railroad crossing)
It's a GE electronic bell (general electric company) sounds kinda like a safetran type 3 but its not.
