- This is a video I made of Amtrak train the Silver Star passing a local industrial CSX freight train on a siding getting ready to pick up some flat cars at a plant.
The whole pick up and hook up has been recorded in this video.

those parked cars must have been causing the malfunctions making it think that a train was on the approach when it wasn't. some interesting rail operations there my friend!

I guess the Freight cars and the Locomotive wanted to play a game with the crossing signals. Never seen a Locomotive go on a siding passing a crossbuck crossing to pick up some rail cars. Thumbs up!

Hi Alan. Why is the Sammonds RxR crossing keep malfunctioning. Is it because the freight was parked too close to the crossing. Awesome video as always.
Awesome! Almost all of CSX's GP40's are previous companies like Chessie and RF&P And conrail and so on. I love it. Great video!

Aren't you supposed to inspect your car's before pulling from a customer, what if a wheel was on the ground, or something blocking the wheels? I worked for CSX and railroads before them, guess who's going to get blamed for damages, what would the FRA think ? Also, went they tied back onto the train, he can be seen riding side of car, whose preceding the move? ( whose at the rear car watching out for derails, or another train BOOM! Out of Service... Guess how I know, I did it.

Thanks for the memories. I worked the 'local' out of Houston to Hearne, Texas way back in the day when there was a caboose and two breakies, conductor, and of course, engineer. BTW, was that a caboose I saw? Just curious.

I am wondering the same thing. Are they malfunctioning?
Probably from the freight locomotive moving back and forth near the crossing making the signal look like its malfunctioning but it's just the train changing directions.
Its the gates sensing the presence of the train, but only when it goes down does it figure out that the train is not actually moving, so goes right back up again.
Why was that crossing gate going up and down?
signal system senses presence of train, therefore lowers. Only after it lowers does it figure out that the train is not moving, therefore raises gates again, only to sence the still stationary cut of cars again.
jfsa380 Unless its in the island circuit then the XR will pick up and the crossing's will activate. It'll also do it if its not controlled by a predictor and use and MDR Relay :D
