Doing what is real to him not what people want him to do is what makes Paul Wellers music so good and made him the legend he is. Wouldn't want it any other way.
I remember my school pal, gave me an album to take to listen to...All mod cons. I was 14. I must've listened to all the jam albums...1,000s of times. He is so amazing...great voice. Genius....
I have always felt we are largely the product of the lives that touch ours … as a fifteen year old lad, I first heard a band called The Jam … since then, one of the constants in my life has been the various manifestations of Paul Weller’s music … I don’t know the geezer, but I am profoundly grateful for his life catching mine … I took possession of his new album today, True Meanings … and the beat goes on!
Same here. Agree. His music has had a very important place in my musical life for 35 years or so. A real musician- for whom writing recording & most importantlly- playing music live in front of people is a way of life.
Best British songwriter of the last 4 decades. Have been following this chap for about 30 years now, and I'm not even British, I'm Flemish. Weller = mastermind !
Have to agree with Richard Auger here. Everytime I get a new Weller album and peruse the Lyrics they seem to fit what I am going through at the time or how I am feeling. This is more true as I get older. I suppose there are issues common to us all but it is good to have a soundtrack to your life. On this album he refers to losing his dad; I lost my old man last March and what he says in his songs is putting it in some kind of perspective for me. Cheers mate
From what I’ve heard of the three tracks from true meanings this could well be his best solo album to date. And that’s saying something. Respect to a true British legend .
Paul wellers soul instruments his talent beautifully.. Pure understandings of life is always conveyed in a manner of acceptance by my soul.. God bless you Paul 💯♥️🎶
This is sooo nice, you know when you get goosebumps hearing a song for the first time. Well, this is one, perfectly beautifull. Speaks to the (my) sole instantly. Thank you so much. Really. Best regards from Flanders - Belgium.
Less than 2 days to go till new Weller lp. The last 6 or so have been mighty. He's on a roll. 40 years since All Mod Cons and I still get excited by each release. Soul Searchers sounds lush man. I can't wait. Nice one fella, keep on keeping on, the most prolific dude in music, thanks for soundtracking my life
A fantastic opener to the new album True Meanings and, as a lot of the reviews have said, his voice has got better with age - you could here it on the couple of vocal tracks on Jawbone soundtrack. Love this immensely!
Lynne, saw him twice in Brussels. I'm 54 now, have known him since The Jam and especially during his period with The Style Council in the eightees, that magic period (when I was still a youngster). Fantastic songwriter, perfect compositions. Has lots of grit and character, always does his own thing, and how!
There are artist that step out of a sound that has made them self a name and thenn do. 180 and try new sounds and succeed. Paul is one of them. What makes him even a notch above the others he can go back and revisit sounds seamlessly. One of the greatest.
Fantastic Paul. U r the Springsteen Nebraska album on this record. I follow Young, Springsteen, and you. U have your own Nebraska with this very soul stirring album. I wish I could shout your name to I the masses in Chicago. Your music is needed here.
"The Soul Searchers", track 1 from "True Meanings", the fourteenth studio album by English singer-songwriter Paul Weller, released on 14 September 2018. ua-cam.com/video/Bfg-VWlopq8/v-deo.html Here's one for the searching soul in the moonight It's alright Head down with a furrowed brow in the deep night Hey it's alright Every night Every day I'm trying to find The words to say But I wouldn't want it any other way Hey hey Sleep tight, let tomorrow bring you a new day It's okay Head down, let the current take you the long way It's okay Every night Every day It's all for sale But it's too late to pay Still I wouldn't want it any other way Hey hey So here's one for the searching soul in the moonight It's alright Dream on dedicated and do what you feel like Hey, it's alright It's alright Every night Every day I'm a searching soul For searching's sake And I wouldn't want it any other way Hey hey It's alright It's alright It's alright It's alright (I wouldn't have it any other way) (I wouldn't have it any other way) It's alright A searching soul (I wouldn't have it any other way) (I wouldn't have it any other way) It's alright It's alright It's okay (I wouldn't have it any other way) A searching soul (I wouldn't have it any other way) It's okay (I wouldn't have it any other way) A searching soul (I wouldn't have it any other way) (I wouldn't have it any other way) A searching soul Glad to know you are still searching after all these years; I look forward to seeing you live one day again (when you make it back in Tokyo) once this present COVID-19 mess has been sorted. Your music has given me pleasure since the 70s. Eternally grateful. Stay safe,
You say I am old ugly a goldigger. Cheap perfume. Second rate fashion. You asked how can you win my love. You did and I sang the most beautiful words of love to you. But you promised me you would come for me. I spring. I was so happy loving u. But you have sang spiteful song that have stabbed me through the heart I believe once you-won my love you got scared that you had me and were as you said coming to set me free with your love. The butterfly collected crucified my heart. You also after this cruelty put an image of you and with you young enough to be your granddaughter. So I know you just saw me as a fantasy but didn’t love me. I am ugly old and a fake. What breaks my heart is the cruelty of your words. I am unloving, I am cold a game seeker. You’re songs before you did this I loved. They are nothing now. You broke my heart my trust. And the thought of you kills me and I can never I feel your uncalled for spite. I did nothing to provoke this. I know you never meant a word cause as soon as I loved you you cut me to peace’s. I know we are broken.
Of Wellers best 50 songs,at least 45 of them are Jam songs! And anyone who disagrees is welcome to my opinion based upon fact! Not trolling,Just pissed off with the Weller fans justifying the madness of spitting the greatest band that's ever lived at 24?? They may not have been than The Beatles but they were certainly better than The Beatles!! Fire and skill
Amazing track. If ONLY he could still sing with his English accent. I don't think he can do it anymore. The US voweled Weller soul voice seems immovable now. It's great on occasion but when he does his old '78-'82 Jam songs nowadays - songs with absolutely no accent other than his own Thames voweled Surrey/London accent on the original recordings - he really struggles. On this intimate acoustic based album, the US accent seems dishonest in some way. There's artifice attached when there should be absolutely none. Imagining these songs with his real accent... it could have been even more brilliant.
I feel bad to say I think True Meanings is the weakest LP in the past 10 years. It's nice and I like the songs and his voice is so good, but I don't think they're great. Wake Up the Nation is fill of absolute classics like Trees, No Tears, 7 & 3, Aim High, and I"ve loved the last 6 or so. His recent stuff is so good, I just want to here the new stuff live. Anyway, I'm glad he can't stop making great records. I look forward to the next one, which I hope won't be long. Respect
Let it go Weller ffs and apolagise to Bruce and Rick for not having the decency to speak to them and pretending The Jam isn't all people really love of everything you've ever written!
Mark Boxall,it took him 20yrs to speak to Bruce and it's been 36yrs since he wrote a decent song! Paul Weller 1958-1982,no go away you Jam hating prick.
It's not a case of living in the past, it's about using your imagination. If you seriously think an artist can keep churning out music of a certain quality over 40 years into a career then you are seriously deluded and ignorant.
Im super lost person, this song helps me remember "its alright " and not to worry about anything.
I listened to this song at midnight on the edge of a creek with just the full moon and the crickets for company. It blew my mind. Thank you Mr Weller!
Doing what is real to him not what people want him to do is what makes Paul Wellers music so good and made him the legend he is. Wouldn't want it any other way.
Exactly. Always true to himself. A truly immortal artist
Nail on the head big fella
4th October utrecht, can't wait.
The man's a legend, lifetime idol.
In Damn Deed

well expressed dude, and yes agreed
Same here. Agree. His music has had a very important place in my musical life for 35 years or so. A real musician- for whom writing recording & most importantlly- playing music live in front of people is a way of life.

A fantastic opener to the new album True Meanings and, as a lot of the reviews have said, his voice has got better with age - you could here it on the couple of vocal tracks on Jawbone soundtrack.

Understatement of the century
Lynne, saw him twice in Brussels. I'm 54 now, have known him since The Jam and especially during his period with The Style Council in the eightees, that magic period (when I was still a youngster). Fantastic songwriter, perfect compositions. Has lots of grit and character, always does his own thing, and how!
I first saw him in Leicester I am nearly 57 and love his music .

The man is an absolute legend & what a corking opening track from his new album & there really isn't any stopping him...
Thou shall have no god but Weller ! KtF ✊
There are artist that step out of a sound that has made them self a name and thenn do. 180 and try new sounds and succeed. Paul is one of them.
What makes him even a notch above the others he can go back and revisit sounds seamlessly. One of the greatest.

Im a HUGE Weller fan but this has to be his best solo album ( maybe better than some of the Jams albums. (Ok I said it!) Love it
Another cork pulled out of his never ending cellar of musical joy.
Fantastic!

Working with Conor O'Brien from Villagers makes this a banger. What a team!

Here's one for the searching soul in the moonight
It's alright
Head down with a furrowed brow in the deep night
Hey it's alright
Every night
Every day
I'm trying to find
The words to say
But I wouldn't want it any other way
Hey hey
Sleep tight, let tomorrow bring you a new day
It's okay
Head down, let the current take you the long way
It's okay
Every night
Every day
It's all for sale
But it's too late to pay
Still I wouldn't want it any other way
Hey hey
So here's one for the searching soul in the moonight
It's alright
Dream on dedicated and do what you feel like
Hey, it's alright
It's alright
Every night
Every day
I'm a searching soul
For searching's sake
And I wouldn't want it any other way
Hey hey
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
It's alright
A searching soul
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
It's alright
It's alright
It's okay
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
A searching soul
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
It's okay (I wouldn't have it any other way)
A searching soul
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
(I wouldn't have it any other way)
A searching soul
Glad to know you are still searching after all these years; I look forward to seeing you live one day again (when you make it back in Tokyo) once this present COVID-19 mess has been sorted. Your music has given me pleasure since the 70s. Eternally grateful. Stay safe,
I've been searching all my life, still am
Would be really good to hear his native voice. Would make him truly original and lasting.

46 (and counting) knobheads dislike this beautiful song, as if 2020 couldn't get any worse

Steve Pilgrim
LIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Been listening to Weller since 1980 and I will never stop. (Style Council sucked.)
Anyone else hear a little Nick Drake influence here??
YES - the vibe of Bryter Layter
Amazing track. If ONLY he could still sing with his English accent. I don't think he can do it anymore. The US voweled Weller soul voice seems immovable now. ocean colour scene much better
More drivel from Weller, retire ffs and be proud of The Jam and ashamed of splitting them up 5yrs too early!
I'm not saying this is anything amazing, but he's not an angry 20 something mod/punk anymore, he's a 60 year old father of 7, so what do you expect?
Dale Hanson sounds like an old man past his best
Album No.26, I think he's allowed to be don't you.
Stop living in the past ffs.
