I have one of these transmissions in a 1978 F150. I have been considering rebuilding it just for good measure. This has been an awesome series. Thanks for doing this.
When you cut off the pins on the shift tower that retain the shifter, and drilled them out did you replace them with split roll pins? I bought the shift tower rebuild kit from Novak and saw there were two larger split roll pins it and assumed that’s what they were for?
Sorry for bugging you but do you have any part numbers for all the shifter/shifter fork stuff? I need to do the exact same thing you did in this video. my shifter isn’t doing so hot anymore
I just rebuilt mine and 2nd gear is hard to get into and sometimes binds the whole transmission up. Goes into 1st but slides tight the whole way in. Synchro worked fine before I tore it apart. Any ideas
Are you shifting the box out of the truck or installed in the truck? Sounds like your endplay may be too tight. If it’s in the truck and shifted fine out of the truck, your clutch may not releasing fully. This could be bent fingers (too much weight hanging on clutch during trans install) or a clutch slave cylinder that isn’t fully bled. Bleeding slave cylinders is a really difficult job. Ask me how I know 😅
Absolute legend doing it in the living room lol.
This is the best NP 435 rebuild series to date. Thank you. I'm rebuilding mine soon.
Thank you for this video series. I’m getting ready to rebuild mine. My syncro between 2nd and 3rd finally gave out.

Nice. Yeah these are legendary transmissions. While nearly indestructible they can run better with some tlc. Keep that 'ol girl on the road!

Looking forward to NP435 Install - Rebuild Series, PART 6.

No sweat, check out Novak Conversions' website- they have individual parts and an exploded diagram to help you find what you need.
Hey man, did you re-use the needle thrust bearing that sits between 4th and the input shaft? Novak doesn't have that part and I can't find a PN
Yep. Give it a once over and if it looks / feels good, clean it with some wd40, lube it up good and send it

What oil goes in this transmission?
80 weight gear oil. You can use a 75w90
