Thank you for this video! I've got 2 blown transmissions, one from me and one from my buddy. I've been waiting for a easy T5 rebuild video. Can't thank you enough!
TKO-600’s are good transmissions as well. It’s really all about how you treat these transmission, a T-5 doesn’t like to be launched on a prepped surface with a sticky tire, they can split. One way to counter act that is too run a higher read end gear ratio and a lightweight rear end fluid.
My T5 worked better with a slick and worked well with a small turbo on a stock block build. 2-3 different cars here on channel.. THe TKO isnt being made much anymore and im pretty sure they stopped making replacement parts for them. Been like that for years. TKX was its replacement...
Perfect video, boss. Exactly what I needed to hear. I won't tell you what car/eng. my WC-T5 is going in, (seeing you're all about blue ovals), but your tutorial is splot on. Not drug out with filler, just to the point. Thanks for that. don't remember if you mentioned using the stock gear-set, and countergear. My application will be street beat, but not drag raced...(too much). Approx 300 HP, 350 ft/lbs, in a 3300lb car. Stock clutch. Stock gear set OK? Thanks again for your videos.
Best video I’ve seen yet. Thank you super appreciate it. I’ve really been dreading the TKX purchase. This has made me confident that I can make my T5 work. Thanks again!
Good stuff..I used a Z spec for 4 years in my car going 11.20s. Never had an issue with it. Used a CenterForce dual friction clutch. That was 20 years ago...
I dropped the T5 trans in my 2000 Mustang 3.8 V6 & bought the parts to fix the throwout bearing but it didn't fit over my trans main shaft. It seems too be just a lil too small. And the trans seems to be a used one. So now I don't know what car my trans originally went to so I can buy the right throwout bearing that will fit over the shaft. How do I identify the trans by the numbers on the casing or the tag? IDK how to read either
I remember rebuilding my 4 cyl T-5 years ago, pretty easy transmission. I got to go back through it soon because I think I’m hearing a noisy countershaft bearing, i used a cheaper rebuild kit that I got from a local transmission shop and regretted it as soon as I picked it up as it was missing several shims, and one of the washers that sit next to a circlip on the main shaft between 3rd & 4th gear was about .003’’ too thick which was causing the circlip to spin in its groove and made a noise. I had to tear the transmission apart four more times after the rebuild to find that. Lol
@@Neomustangs now that you mention it, I think I’ll just go ahead and get the Tremec kit and go through the entire transmission again with quality parts this time. Hopefully they have a 4cyl T5 kit since mine uses a smaller input shaft and bearing than the V8 T5. Worst case, I’ll use everything else from a V8 T5 rebuild kit and source my own Timken input shaft bearing. As far as I know other than the gearing being different, everything else is supposedly the same between the 4 and 8 cylinder T5 transmissions.🤷♂️ I’m running a 2.3T so I need the gearing the 4 cyl T5 has. Some 2.3 guys will use a V8 T5 but then they have to re-gear the axle.
Life time waranty here from like 1998. I had a clutch from oreilly and they didnt honor the waranty cause i didnt have reciept. Autozone however kept it in the computer ive had two clutches from them on that waranty since 1998. I try to buy from autozone over the rest of em cause of that. I shoulda just made xerox copys of the reciepts in heind sight
Have you ever heard of or ran into the issue of swamping out a t5 to a tr3650 in a sn95 and ran into the issues of hairline cracks in the dovetail of the tr3650 after being installed. Nothing is hitting in the cases and have been through like three dovetails with same issue in pretty much same place. Or should I just take the T% and build it and put back in the car?
I just doctored up a set of gt40p heads. Can you give me a part number on a set of long tubes that will work? 5.0 going in a 88 gt with a t-5. Keep the good videos coming Bro!
I've read about guys using 90' tbird v6 super coupe 5spd trans and stock are much more potent then a t5, is similar to the f150 302 trans but better I guess. I have one i may try and they bolt right up. from what I've read, ford switched to this trans which a mazda trans cause the t5 was to weak for the supercharged v6. My concerns are shifter position but wouldn't be a huge issue to fix, mainly the driveshaft length. Have you ever seen this swap and what are your thoughts? love the channel
Where’s a good place to source rebuild parts and that billet steel piece? I’ve heard mix reviews about fitment from other companies. What not so I’d like to pick up a good one that I don’t have to worry about that.
If you can build a 400 hp transmission that is amazing. With that you could get rid of the big heavy engine and it's accessories and with weight saving make a fast balanced car
wow!!! do you teach classes on this...!! Its good to know there's this kind of work..i'm a foxbody guy..I've got a T5 im wanting to rebuild,,Nice work!! you made it look easy peasey..
May be a dumb question, I recently upgraded to the Tremec Super Duty T5 and I have two 4cyl T5’s laying around that I’d like to rebuild for spares. Will this kit work in those cases? If so, do you have a part number for the rebuild kit?
Shawn i made a video a year or so ago about that very topic. You will need cluster, 1-4 gears and you should be set. TOp plate, case, tail shifter forks/rod all thats the same. You can even reuse 5th and reverse...
How long does it take u to break one down and put it back together? What do u think about those AMP gear sets called super street rated at 450hp for $899 2.95 first gear or u can get street gear set 400hp for 599 i think. I've been thinking about the super street cause I believe that it would hold 500 which is about where im at .Do u think they are worth it?
The counter gear doesnt seem preloaded? Spinning freely? I preloaded mine a bit and it only spins a few times. I rebuilt a WC T5 for my IROC, replaced the 3/4 hub, had the output shaft sleeved on the front by universal machine in Portland. I hope I didnt fuck up with too much preload..

Awesome, I just picked up a 1990 h.o. long block tonight. I'm hoping to use your piston flip tip and get some good heads. Tha ks for the inspiration.

That's a real gear head. Great video
Thx man
You made that look easy
Great video on transmissions neo thanks for sharing..
What ends up breaking next after these upgrades? Considering it for my 355cid boss-headed motor.
Awesome rebuild, awesome job on how to...

It’s why I pay for the tremec kits. Always quality parts.

I had 468 at the crank on a stock t5 and some auto zone clutch, which I use to punish. Have you blown alot of them?
Yes! I used an auto zone disc with my spec 2+ pressure plate worked well for years

Yes you can i already made this video. Go search "T5" in my channel.

t5 the best shifting transmission i have ever used up until it breaks 😅

Neo I was wondering if I was to swap in a TKX or T56 what Do I need as in parts to bolt the trans to the 351w bottom end in a fox body. Thank you
Tkx bell and crossover. T56 is a whole swap kit
Thank you. For the info I’ll look into that

Bronze fork pads. Are they good or bad? I used them in my trans. Great video 👍
Not really needed
Cool video. Is that all by memory or do you still check a assembly manual throughout slapping it together?
Memory
Great video! Where can I get a good quality rebuild kit?

Thanks, went on their website but seems they don’t have the WC T5 rebuild kit. Only NWC
Have you ever tried the gforce upgrade kit for the T5? Only $1500 bucks and supposedly good for 600 tq. Debated trying it when my T5 goes.
I have not.

im sure its fine.
Slight preload is better than loose.😳
So the only upgrades are the counter support and front retainer? Other than that you're reusing all the oem gears that are not broken?..
Sure. That’s one of the main reasons they break Flex from the case, the counter and input thru the trans under load……
@Neomustangs good to know I have a bad t5 I've been wanting to lean off of. Great vid bro 👍🏼
Is the G force upgrades with it ?
No
Why the .100 or so thou shim under the retainer?
huh?
Damn good video🤘

very nice i cant wait to tear into one.

Haha yes !
I say save up get a tko500. I got tired of blowing 2nd gear on the t5s.
TKX not the TKO. The tko isn’t really being used much anymore.
What clutch do you recommend for that t-5?
One that has a little slippage to it. Don’t need an aggressive clutch
@@Neomustangs
King Cobra?
@Neomustangs So are you saying a clutch with a higher horsepower & torque rating would grab harder and potentially damage a t5 sooner?
Heck yeah!

Also if you cryogenic freezing to your gear get and shafts = 20% stronger.
no
No folks it’s not his first time lol
