    probably late but... I have a vt750cda 2002. the starter button actually controls not only the power circuit to the starter but also the ignition. If the contacts inside get corroded or burned out, which mine did. it will actually kill the bike completely. you will have tons of power to the lights, flashers, brake light etc but the starter wont turn at all. The headlight should go out when you hit the starter but you won't have any juice going to the starter. I fixed mine by disassembling it, its an open plastic switch. 4 wires with 4 contacts. clean the contacts well, lubricate and most of all the little spring needs to be strong enough to force the contacts to touch. *** note: watch the little ball bearing that goes under the switch, it's real easy to lose. Hope this helps

    Not the battery or the plugs, or the starter by the sound of it. When the problem arises, you dont have to do anything except wait before trying agaiin and everything works again. This would suggest the switch itself in not returning (sticking) an a good clean out will solve it.

    Dude WTF if you have to hit your starter button for more than 5 seconds you have a problem and should take it to a shop before you fry your starter

      I know and I knew this. At that point though I was trying to narrow down the fault. I fixed it by doing this. No need to go to a garage and no need to pay a couple of hundred quid for something that took me 10 minutes to fix. :) Cheers for watching

    • @ShiteLines
      @ShiteLines  14 днів тому

      @@ChristopherThomas-jc7nz it was off the plug for a reason. When pressing the start button it was intermittent. Turned out, it was the actual start button that needed cleaned. One in every 30 times or so you’d press the start button and it’s like it wouldn’t contact.

    Mine does the same thing, only 2 weeks after I bought it, what a sh1t bike.
    Does not deserve it's reputation for reliability at all. My air cooled inline twins have never had any kind of problem, and they've been totally neglected.
    I bought a new rectifier, battery, and spark tester, maybe one of those will help me determine if it's something else in the electrical, one of the stupid safety kill switches, or a dead fuel pump.

      Chauncey Wilson it was the start button. I opened the start button and gave it a right good clean with electrical cleaner and it solved the problem. If it doesn't for you, it could be a fuse or your starter relay (solenoid)

    • @ShiteLines

      Does it continually crank? Or does it crank then no longer work when pressing the starter button randomly?

    • @derwinsanchez7693

      LaineYMCVlog it continues to crank as long as I have the button pressed

    • @ShiteLines
      @ShiteLines  5 років тому

      @@derwinsanchez7693 ok in that case then the button works, the starter works so the next thing to check is if you are getting a spark or not. The simple way to do this is to remove the spark plugs from the bike and push the spark plug cap onto the spark plug and hold it and crank the bike. If you see a spark on the spark plugs then you're getting a spark. Next thing to look at would be, is it getting fuel? Check the fuel filter, is there fuel in the tank? Does it have a tap? is fuel coming out the houses to the carbs?

    My inclination is that the non-latching stater switch itself is sticking/dirty or the relay is at fault. Open the right hand switchgear and spray some contact cleaner or isopropyl alchohol onto the switch itself.
    The relay seems fine as the light dims when the switch is engaged. If you have access to a multimeter, check for continuity between the switch and the starter motor.
    You could contact Del (Moonfleet41) he might have some ideas as well.

    • @ShiteLines

      It randomly wouldn't turn over, like a bad connection. It turned out it was an issue with the start switch on the handlebars and I resolved it the evening I posted this video. I specifically took the plug caps off so I could work out if it was the starter randomly not activating (without starting the engine every time I was trying to test)
