Thumbs up for this video. Man as a Corpsman in serving Marines in combat (Iraq) this trauma shears would of been ideal! Vice carrying so much as my EDC, multi-tool, (spring loaded) window breaker, belt cutter, ring cutter (turning handle bulky ). O2 key !!! Also has a cool appeal to them, it's worth a few dollars, for the long haul ounces = pounds = pain
I've found that the seat belt cutter does actually work very well while in the open position for any type of need where someone needs to have there top removed...ei jacket shirt any type of clothing like that... the actual cutter part of the scissor works to aid in slipping them up the patient under there clothing.... then you just simply run them up and out the top turn and pull back... and they work phenomenal for cutting off a shirt or top of any kind
I'm using the rescue raptor in the jungle of Ecuador, is a overkill for scissors task, and hurt the hand if you want to use it for a long time, the hook knife helps for small task's, the glass punch help open small boxes or oil cans, the thing for improve is the ergonomics for long term use
I absolutely agree! I definitely think this is where the raptor response shines, it is sooooo much more comfortable to use and it doesn’t hurt your hand like the rescue. If you ever get a chance to try one out, I would highly recommend it, as long as you don’t need all the features that the rescue has. :) Thank you so much for the comment! @@ShortStackSurvival im geophysicist and the company I work for is doing a mining exploration, here the terrain is insanely hard, hot weather and rainy season, so is a regular job for us, here I'm also using the Leatherman surge and in working like a champ with zero maintenance, also using the Bowie from boker Argentina big knife and everyone love it.

Great shears. But the rescues don’t fit in the 5.11 EMS pant vertical pockets. So it takes extra time to put them in service on scene. Pretty much the only gripe from the providers that use them in my department.
Oh bummer! I wonder if the response would fit in that pocket? I have a pair of my old 5.11 pants from my days as a LEO but they aren’t the EMS ones specifically, otherwise I’d try it out for yah. Have you tried the belt mount or carrying them like a pocket knife with the clip? I’ve also seen some really cool Kydex sheaths on Etsy.com that might be worth looking into. Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m sure it will be helpful to other first responders.
I get what you’re saying about the handle comfort being better on the Response than the Rescue. I ended up buying the Rescue just because I wanted the more narrow profile to make sure it fit into my IFAK. Also, I’d likely be using them with gloves on my hands, so I need the larger holes of the Rescue. Good review.
Thank you! I definitely think if you are wearing gloves and/or have big hands the Rescue is the way to go. If you just have nitrile gloves on, I think the response would be a good option. I've grown to absolutely love using and having my raptors.... but the lanyard hole has always boggled me as to why!!!! I mean i know why... but the second you put any type of cord there the holster becomes absolutely useless!!!! Lol but other than that i absolutely love them
Hey, I’m glad you like them too! As far as I understand, the holster can be used with the scissors in the closed and open configuration. I believe if you want to run a lanyard, you would just keep them open and holster it that way. Maybe give it a try and see which way works best for you!
Just purchased a genuine Leatherman Raptor response for an incredible discount,However remains to seen so if it is Leatherman I'll be super chuffed. BTW,purchased a cheaper generic scissors day before,unfortunately.

I suppose it would depending on frequency of use and what materials you are cutting through. If the shears do happen to dull over time, Leatherman states you can sharpen them as follows: Lay the serrated shear flat against a sharpening stone and sharpen the back side (inside that rubs against non-serrated shear) which will knock off any burr on the serrated edge and recreate a sharp corner for the other shear to cut against.

Cheaper cost 3 dollars raptor cost 70 dollars, get what you can afford, plus do you use them every day? Medical is a touchy subject, tourniquet is to stop major bleeding or lose of limb. (Only good for one (1) HOUR, decompression needles you need certification. The Hippocratic oath first i will do no harm. learn to do stiches or get a staple gun and remover (hurt like hell both ways) Special forces medical book. (Buy books of all kinds, internet may not work) Remember the golden hour, if no medical help is coming its best guess, war rules apply.
Again, all great points you’ve made. As a previous first responder I agree that medical training is a must. I just wanted to give people a comparison of the two trauma sheers so they can make an informed decision when purchasing.
