    Did you get the standard or the soft spring? The spring weight will affect the cycle of the gun.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 13 днів тому

      The Glockstore only offers one spring weight option for the G42 (at least when I bought it a few years ago) and it claimed “same as factory spring weight.” I just wanted to let people know that it was actually lighter than OEM, which can cause some issues without further modification to the gun. If you’re someone like me who keeps their pistols relatively stock and want to try these “upgrades” just be weary of the claims on the box and on the website, as they may not be forthcoming to you about their product.

    Trying to decide if I wanna pocket carry or appendix it. Just haven’t appendixed anything this small so it worries me on draw

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 15 днів тому

      I can definitely understand the concern, considering how deadly it could be if something were to go wrong, but I suppose most of our concealed holster options have risks involved. I think a quality holster with lots of dry fire practice will give you the confidence to try appendix carry. I am a heavyset girl who finds appendix carry very uncomfortable but my younger brother really enjoys it and he is of an average build. My only advice to my brother was to draw deliberately but swift and safe as possible and re-holster slowly. Introduce stress with a shot timer or someone yelling at you “He’s got a GUN!” See how you do, and make sure your clothes are not interfering. Worst case scenario is you try it out, realize you don’t like it and move on to another holster solution. Most of the time, if I’m not carrying at the 3 o’clock position, I prefer pocket for EDC or chest for hiking/outdoor adventures. That being said, I have tons of holsters that I’ve tried over the years and I think it just takes time to figure out what works best in certain situations.

    I got the standard pure tungsten guide rod. The problem on mine is that the springs to heavy. It cycles fine I'm just weak to rock the slide.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival Місяць тому

      Take note on how you are racking the slide, most people try to pull back with just their support hand which is difficult. What I like to do is push outward with the hand gripping the pistol while my other hand is gripping slide and only slightly pulling back. Something like 75% push with dominant hand and 25% pinch & pull with your support hand. If you struggle with that, make sure you are doing this relatively close to your body, the further your arms are extended out the more difficult it becomes. I have helped many people with this and it seems to do the trick. I hope my explanation was good enough and maybe I’ll do a quick little video in the future on the subject. P.s. I’m also a big fan of Vickers Tactical Slide Racker it is awesome and makes racking your pistol much easier.

      @@ROOSTER-ql5fs That sucks, I’ve had pistols with feeding issues before and I polished the feed ramp with Flitz and a soft dremmel, works flawlessly now. I think sometimes there are tiny imperfections that can catch the tip of a bullet, especially hollow-points. If that doesn’t work, take a look at your magazine, could be a follower or spring issue. And if that doesn’t cut it, sometimes pistols just don’t like certain specialty ammo, I’d go with what it likes and buy a bunch of it so you don’t run out! I’ve had good luck with Hornady and Federal HST, but I can’t say I’ve shot more than a magazine or so worth of each due to the expense.

    Great non-biased review. Everything is made in China these days, and even those products assembled in the U.S. are still using Chinese parts. I’m over it. Purchasing this safe for the value and storage capacity.

    The problem is definitely the spring weight. The tungsten guide rod does nothing but add a little weight, it shouldn’t alter the way the firearm functions. Spring tension will affect how the gun cycles.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 6 місяців тому

      Yep, I did a full length video showing that it was the spring weight. Glock store only sells one assembly for the G42 and they claimed it was same as factory spring weight. I just wanted people to know that the spring weight is in fact not the same as factory and they should consider that if purchasing.

      Yes, let me know if you notice anything! I didn’t realize it was happening until I reviewed the video footage. I’ve heard that their recoil springs and guiderod work well in full size G19, G17 etc. So this may be a G42 specific issue.

  • @rickgarlington114
    @rickgarlington114 6 місяців тому

    I think I saw that you had a slide rack assist on your 42. I tried one of those, but removed it when I saw the pistol was not going back into battery all the time. This was back with the OEM recoil assembly.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 6 місяців тому

      Thanks! That’s good to know. I actually picked up another G42 and it is stock so I can definitely test the theory and see if there were any issues due to the slide racker. I personally haven’t had any issues with the OEM recoil spring and guiderod but it’s worth testing the theory.

    I can duplicate what you claim to be a problem that you demonstrate -with my 42 and the same tungsten GRA from the Glock store. This is not a safety issue as I see it because in actual live fire the inertia of the slide returning always causes the slide to return to battery. At least in my gun it always has. And the striker cannot release until the slide is in battery anyway. So I think your concern is an irrational one. The tungsten assembly solved all of the ftf and fte problems with my 42 and a lot of other people's also. You may have a defective unit because after hundreds of rounds my 42 has never failed to lock into battery while actually firing the gun or slingshoting a fresh round into the chamber off of a fully loaded mag. I have a 1911 Colt with a tight competition barrel bushing that will do the same thing if you gently ease the slide down like you are doing. A slight shake of the gun causes it to go into battery. In actual use this doesn't happen because of the return inertia of the slide.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 6 місяців тому

      During filming at the range, the G42 was actually having the same issue. I did not notice until I reviewed the footage. After sending the videos to a gunsmith and talking to other avid shooters, we all agreed that this was absolutely a design flaw and potentially dangerous condition which is why I wanted to share my experience with others. Everyone is free to use or disregard the information as they see fit. It is important to me to be very up-front with my viewers and not withhold information especially if might be unpopular. As long as people are aware and can make an educated decision or at least keep an eye on it when they begin modifying their pistols then I would say mission accomplished. Thank you for taking the time to reply and share your concerns.

  • @rickgarlington114
    @rickgarlington114 6 місяців тому

    Not an issue with my 42 at all. Maybe something else is dragging and the oem spring compensates? My 42 is about 3 yrs old.

    • @ShortStackSurvival
      @ShortStackSurvival 6 місяців тому

      This issue does not happen with the original spring and guide-rod, but I suppose you never know. I did buy another G42 recently but haven’t tried this guiderod with it yet but I would venture to say it would have the same results considering that the spring weight is lighter than OEM. There is a lot of feedback from this video so I was thinking of doing a follow up video to address the many questions that people have regarding this issue.
