      @PontikiPsito4 oh, you must be a genius. I think a person who is willing to learn something new, adapt their opinions and move forward with a more open mind is way more intelligent than someone who just decides what makes another person smart or not (ahem, like you)

      @@prabhjotsidhu06 i dont just decide who is smart or not, i never did. Intelligence is something well defined by psychologists so when i say that those characteristics do not define intelligent im not stating an opinion, im statong a fact. Willingness to "grow" and an "open mind" may be good traits for someone to have but not define ones intellect.

    • @prabhjotsidhu06
      @prabhjotsidhu06 2 роки тому +17

      @@pontikipsito46 yes, I understand what the definition of 'intelligence' may be, but it clearly needs to have a much more broad definition. For instance, you can clearly see where the psychologist in the group tries to make use of these textbook assumptions and the results didn't correlate well at all. Humans are an immensely varied species and the world's definitions/parameters simply need to reflect that better. This video just helped prove the textbook MISconceptions of intelligence.

    • @pontikipsito46
      @pontikipsito46 2 роки тому +11

      @@prabhjotsidhu06what you said is mostly valid but does not apply in this instance because the "psychologist" in the video just used debunked myths which are not true whatsoever so thats not an example of psychology failing. Moreover, yes humans are indeed incredibly complex but share the same brain, genome, lobes,neuron types etc meaning you can safely categorize behavours and skills (iq) amongst humans.

      People with high IQ’s might be more awkward and less socially able. Why are you condemning them for that? You are literally targeting people who are already socially marginalized to marginalize even further.
      It is clear as day that having a high IQ means something, and the “wholesome” mob just wants to ignore this to make themselves feel better and punish people for daring to be intelligent people by no choice of their own. No one is saying that high IQ people are better people, or worth more, or anything. Just like no one is saying being good at basketball increases your worth as a human, but it’s stupid to deny that being good at basketball objectively makes you more likely to be a better runner, better at other sports, etc, like having an IQ means you are likelier to be good at math, retain information better, etc.

      @@Batman2StaticShock You can see for your self the Terman Stanford research about intelligence and learn how you wrongly assumed intelligence is just: Maths, SO and info retention.
      IQ *does* determine much of your life outcome in terms of health, income, crime, etc...General intelligence is an ability to problem solve and recognize patterns that are best *observed* in academic subjects (hence the structure of IQ tests) but are not limited to that environment and do apply to all areas of your life from hobbies to love interests.
      It’s such a meaningful omnipresent factor that a psychologist (Leta Hollingworth) established a communication range spanning 30 points (under & over your IQ) where any meaningful communication beyond it “breaks up” and this is corroborated by a lot of anecdotal evidence from those who pass the test and the existence of High IQ societies (plus informal ones like graduate academic circles), fun fact, it’s also likely a close friend would be 15 points (or under) from your intelligence.
      Basically your social circle does indicate how smart you are in some way. There’s so much more I can say about the subject but the takeaway is emotional intelligence is also governed by IQ to some extent and very brainy folks are often alienated from the general population depending on how smart they are, what’s the point of values if you can’t even convey ‘em?
      A useful analogy for the communication range would be between an adult and a child, where a child has a much simpler/linear thought process (so lower understanding of causality & variables that affect it) and is naturally limited in the number of concepts he can grasp, so the adult is forced to break down his language enough that it’s easily digested and engages with a subject that doesn’t meet his intellectual needs. But imagine this with grownups, now between an employee and his boss, etc...

      @@piranhahoundyoo4520 I heavily agree with your assertions, though I believe they’re misdirected lol. I do find it frankly stupid how the “wholesome” mob (😂) as you’ve adequately put it scramble to erase the concept of intelligence or any hierarchy for that matter by passing it off as a social construct, that Nature is Marxist basically, and do so to just fit in, not to “offend” anybody.
      It’s run-of-the-mill jealousy with a generous dollop of PC bullcrap that drives all this talk about EQ which isn’t even a legitimate concept in psychology but no, IQ is unfounded, unreliable and very unscientific lol
      Also, It’s practically impossible to convince the mob about the complete mutual exclusion of this concept with worth because it’s how they “feel” that matters and as long as you are smart it definitely means you’re showing off.
      It seems to me they confuse EQ with kindness, because if being intelligent in that regard means anything it would be a high adaptability to social settings whatever their nature and I bet it does look like a bell-curve too. Psychopaths are the only ones I’d say have a high EQ because they do mount the social ladder rather quickly in pursuance of their objectives and have been blending since childhood whilst having no intuitive sense of the norms like neurotypicals do due to their brain anomalies.

    • @aaroninsel6340
      @aaroninsel6340 2 роки тому +23

      Yes thats right intelligence isnt based off of those things but IQ definitely is. Thats why its important to seperate those 2 terms strictly. IQ is purely a number that ranks your skills in very specific and selected areas of thinking, hence intelligence *quotient* . Whereas intelligence is a much more broad term that doesnt have such an exact definiton like IQ has. The problem is, intelligence in general is not a thing you can put a number to and assign it to someone, so you cant really determine a value that stands in relation to other values like it is with IQ. Thats why I think people need to stop bringing up phrases like emotional intelligence in videos like these, because they have nothing to do with IQ. Wether or not someone thinks highly of IQ as a status or representation of your intelligene is a whole other debate to have, but unfortunately the content of the video is IQ and IQ only.

    • @lilsmolcrow
      @lilsmolcrow 2 роки тому +19

      This video reeks of ignorance regarding intelligence. Intelligence has many definitions depending of the field and IQ score only depicts your problem-solving abilities for IQ tests.

    • @aaroninsel6340
      @aaroninsel6340 2 роки тому +5

      @@lilsmolcrow I partly agree with you. I also think there are different definitions for intelligence depending on the field but I dont think the video in itself does something that falsely represents intelligence, because they explicitly talk about IQ. The misunderstanding actually lies in the belief of a lot of people that intelligence and IQ are equivalent even though theyre not at all. I personally think IQ is a very poor measurement for anything but nonetheless if ranking IQ is the content of the video then I dont think theres something wrong with it since it doesnt actually involve the general concept of intelligence.

    • @jaydehy
      @jaydehy 2 роки тому +5

      Yeah and in psychology intelligence is defined as a number of other things. Emotional intelligence, metacognition, problem solving, ability with music, plants, math, language, etc. But an easy way to quantify intelligence is to use IQ so that is why intelligence for most people is based on problem solving and logic. I learned this in my high school psych class, and yet the psychology lady just spouts bs here and there and rates their intelligences based on seemingly no “intelligent” traits.

    I think Einstein said something along the lines of, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live it's whole life thinking it's stupid. Intelligence does not =IQ, the metric by which we measure intelligence is to narrow to judge it accurately. Intelligence is a mutlivariable equation and IQ measures about 3 out of say 25 variables.
