Still have my new to me G2s from 03. I have played hundreds of rounds and hit thousands of balls over 17 years, just lost an insert on my 5 iron last year at the range. But guess what, I still hit that club beautiful. When you're a Ping person, you know it and just hit those clubs clean, no matter what.
I’m still quite new to golf, having started about 2 months ago. Since purchasing these clubs on eBay at the end of March, my scores have improved from the 120s to the 90s in just a few weeks. I highly recommend these clubs for new golfers. I haven’t lost one of the weights/inserts/damper yet but I highly doubt it would matter if I did. By the way this video helped me make the purchase! Thank you @TheVintageGolfer
played well over 1000 rounds on my g2's over the years and theyre still in my bag along with my taylor made drivers. all inserts have stayed in, great clubs. probably going to regrip them this year to some golf pride grips and give them some new life.
Same setup, same experience. Just gave those clubs to my son. He was surprised how much better they played. Also, never had an insert fall out. Great irons. Love Ping.
Take a roll of lead tape. Cut to shape of insert. POKE 2 slices down into the insert hole. I think that is it. I really only needed one slice to fix the swing weight but wanted a little more on my 5 iron. Worked great. I have both G2 and I3 irons and love them.
Played my G2 irons for years. Lost insert in 6 iron twice. PING replaced first one free. Not available second time. None others lost. Friend reshafted them with graphite from steel. I’ve regripped myself three times. Still love them! Woods and putter are PING also. Assorted models. Love them all!
awsome video here thank you. im 42 and just starting to play some golf. i found a set of these for 150 bucks obviously used. so much info here to compare to other sets. awsome job......ty a bunch
Amazing irons these. I’m a 5 hcp and gamer them on a links today, shot 75 they just go straight every time. So easy to hit, I’m considering putting them in the bag 😂
I got a set years ago. I used epoxy on the edge of the cap. I neatly masked it off on each iron, the perimeter of the cap weight. 10 years later, the weights are still in and solid.
Love the videos!! Just wanted to share another find I had today at a thrift store in Tennessee... my coolest find yet I believe I found a Titleist Scotty Cameron Caliente Grand putter today for $1.99
I bought mine back in 2005-6..? I have now had the inserts fall out of 7 clubs!! but that didn’t happen until this past year. Unfortunately, Ping was no help in repairing them. The guy I spoke to basically said, “sorry, buy newer clubs”. 😕
I haven't had inserts come out and these G2's are now over 20 years old. I have a backup set now though, just in case. These are the best irons I have ever hit. They're just as good as the EYE 2, maybe even better with the HL's as well. I'll play with these for the rest of my life.
I just picked up the i3+, which came out a year earlier, tor $20 from Goodwill. I bought the 3i-W for $2.59 a club and they're in beautiful condition. They replaced my 1972 Titleist Acushnet AC-108s that I've been using for the last 2 years
Interesting. I still have my set from 04-05. Played 2-3 rounds a month for about a decade with them. They still are my only set but only get used probably 6 times are year for the last few years. Never lost an insert, and I don't treat them very carefully. Came here as the beginning of my through process to upgrade to a modern set. I'm sure I'm leaving something on the table still playing these old manatees haha
10/22/2022 Ping does not have the weights in stock. Sorry we can’t help you. I mixed #8 shot with JB Weld and filled in the cavity. They work fine. I love the clubs. Bought them new in 2003.
You are so right. Great design, easy to hit, game improvement however I see those clubs at play it again many times missing the weight insert. Does the close step pattern at the top change swing flex, bend point, or dampen vibration? I only have older sets with the zz lite shafts which are amazing. Thanks again for another great video. The first two balls you hit didnt stray 1 inch. On the exact same line and launch. Cool!
I have the 3 high launch and great for getting it in the air. Great replacement for 3 iron. Re the insert-I also have a set of Ping i3's and I did lose that insert from my 6 iron. Fortunately it was back around 2008 and the Ping HQ in Ontario Canada replaced on the spot. Now in 2021you may need to buy an old beater online for $25 just to get the insert.
My son carries the 3 HL instead of any fairway woods. Goes a ton and very high. I did once lose the insert in my i3 6 iron but was able to go to Ping's office near me in Ontario and they replaced it on the spot. That was about 12 years ago. Probably out of luck now.
The guy hits 3 good shots in a row and then says no so go figure. I like these clubs they’re made with good steel. Now how do I find out if the clubs have groves of a “v” or “u” shape?
I've got the S59 irons, no issue with the inserts falling out, and I just picked up a set of G2s at Play it Again Sports for a hundy. Love these clubs. Absolutely the easiest OEM clubs I've ever hit.
Just bought a 3-9, P, S Ping G2 iron set from my neighbor for hundo, came with and bag and push cart. I don't know why but I'll try them, if I don't like I'll keep for the mancave as conversation parts. Not really a big deal either way, could probably sell for more but not going to. Biggest mistake I've made was giving away a Big Bertha driver, but a promotional driver that was twice the size of real clubs. A customer had been given the sales piece and then gave it to me after I remodeled his house as a gift. At the time wasn't really thinking and gave it to what turned out to be a terrible customer later. That promo club probably is worth quite a bit now......
Nice review. I don't feel like the G2 feature any ground breaking improvements over their predecessor. The design focus seems to have been to push more weight out to the perimeter and add extra width to the sole. The eye 2 and i3 had a beautiful contour to the back of the sole which sadly didn't carry through to this model.
I like this irons very much but unfortunately I have lost insert of 6, 7 irons and could not find or fix in korea... How can I do....?? Where can I get the inserts ?G2 IS THE BEST.
Question: Do the G2 irons play any different without the Insert in your opinion? When did Ping come to the realization that their inserts weren't holding up and discontinued using them? I have a set of Ping Zing Irons that I bought new and they still play great and look great all these years later. In my opinion, Golf Clubs are Tools. Just like my Sears Craftsman Tools, the durability of my Golf Equipment is extremely important to me. Those G2's weren't inexpensive when they were brand new. I agree with you not recommending them. Having stuff fall off of it is unexceptable. Mr. Karsten Solheim designed clubs to last and I think he must rolling over in his Grave at such a inferior product. Thanks for the Great Review from Houston, Texas!
Yes G2 irons feel different with missing insert, swing weight and sound. They are still (2020) using inserts like most companies. Often they are disguised as branding or are internal like Taylormade's speed foam. Even some of their Blueprint blades have tungsten inserts, not for sound dampening to my understanding but an insert none the less.
I play with a set that I had costume fitting for about 15. I decided to buy a set of PGXs 0311 and found them to be inferior to my G2s. My pings are still easier to work, and are a full club longer than the PXGs. I'm 55 years, and I still hit my 5 iron about 205. I also just ordered a G2 factory "U" wedge brand new that will be tailored identical to the set i bought in 04 thru the serial numbers on file with Ping ...
Just purchased a set from Goodwill for $22. Knowing the issue of the insert I used epoxy around the insert where there is a natural gap. Once you clean up any excess epoxy you cannot see it since I used J and B Weld and it’s mixed color matches that of the insert. By the way, they are amazing.
I personally wouldn't consider any or the "G" irons orf the 2000's desirable. But the Ping Irons from the 80's and early 90's are a different animal. I had a set of Original 1961 Karstens 2I-Sw in Mint condition. Iat that time I didn't know what I had had. Unfortunately I sold them. If I knew then what I know now.
Ping is one of those companies where their older stuff is the best stuff. I agree, if it weren't right at the peak of my golfing interest these irons would never have been on my radar.
TGIF!!! Hmmmm not a fan of this iron. I just couldn't get past the looks. I still have my Eye2's and love that look but these???? Can't wait until the next memory.
True,..These irons are the typical EASIEST irons to hit. And ping makes alot of these. But -- I have ALSO heard that the inserts fall out --in like as early as year 2 and for that , I am OUT.... OH and 2 side notes. The HL (high launch) are not that good of an iron. Sole is just too darn big on tight lies where a more digging motion is necessary to get the golf ball out of a bad lie..The high launch are a FAIL..Another side note: there is a TON of offset on these G2's so if your a minimal offset guy, you will not like the G2. Go with the ping cavity blade..And one more side note: these are the easiest clubs to hit on the senior professional tour as evidenced that a senior golfer named RW Eaks used the ping G2's to win 4 times on the champions tour, using lets just say a slightly unorthodox golf swing..But still Ping G2 are still not as universally liked as some of the other Ping iron designs..
I have these clubs. My father in law has ping eye 2 orange dot. I’ve had 2 weights fly out of my G2’s. He doesn’t golf anymore and gave me his eye 2’s. They are a much better club

Always dig your enthusiasm, thanks for another vid 👍
I use the s59 they're amazing no problem with the inserts. 2003-present going strong
Love the videos!! Just wanted to share another find I had today at a thrift store in Tennessee... my coolest find yet I believe
I found a Titleist Scotty Cameron Caliente Grand putter today for $1.99
Been playing with G2’s for nearly 15 years, never had an issue with the inserts “falling out”...
My insert on my pitching wedge fell out but I haven’t noticed a difference in feel or sound
I have multiple clubs without inserts. Not really sure I can tell a difference though.
I bought mine back in 2005-6..? I have now had the inserts fall out of 7 clubs!! but that didn’t happen until this past year. Unfortunately, Ping was no help in repairing them. The guy I spoke to basically said, “sorry, buy newer clubs”. 😕

I've been playing my g2's since 2006ish. No issues with the inserts. Love these clubs.
I just picked up a free set of G2's and the 3 iron, 5 iron and 7 are all missing the name plate and the 5 iron is also missing the weight
As with the zing 3 iron, I have this 3 iron too I bust out from time to time as a “driving iron” both great!
10/22/2022 Ping does not have the weights in stock. Sorry we can’t help you.
I mixed #8 shot with JB Weld and filled in the cavity. They work fine.

I had a set of pretty beat and missing a few “shark fins” - I would check with Ping but I believe they were also part of the swing weighting.
Been playing G2s since 2004 - several hundred rounds, never had an insert fall out.
Still use my g2’s going on 20 years. Have never had an insert fall out
The guy hits 3 good shots in a row and then says no so go figure. I like these clubs they’re made with good steel. Now how do I find out if the clubs have groves of a “v” or “u” shape?
Been playing with g2 irons for 17 years. Had insert fall out of my 4 iron. Doesn't make a difference that I can notice.
I've got the S59 irons, no issue with the inserts falling out, and I just picked up a set of G2s at Play it Again Sports for a hundy.
Love these clubs. Absolutely the easiest OEM clubs I've ever hit.
Been hitting my G2's for 17 yrs. Have yet to lose an insert
Mine are turning 17 this year too. Finally thinking about new irons, but I'm having trouble figuring out why. They're great irons.
Same, 16 years old irons. Still in perfect condition and feel great
Lost 2 inserts in the last week.
Just bought a 3-9, P, S Ping G2 iron set from my neighbor for hundo, came with and bag and push cart. 인서트가 뒷면에 튀어나온 플라스틱 같은거 말하는건가요?
I remember my first time golfing too
Never had a issue with my g2s still use them every week
How have you found the G5's ?

Good review by the way :)
Insert fell out of my PW, I bought another PW for £30. There is no difference that I can see between the two clubs, test done :)
I use the g2 irons and the g2 driver
Me too!
My inserts have not fallen out.
i just epoxied some tungsten weights into the 2 inserts that came our of mine. No biggie at all.
I believe these are great for beginners. They are cheap and easy to hit
Wow great find!
why does this club look older than the eye 2?
Ha e my ping g2 Rory 19 years inserts still good
You should do the snake eyes.

I hit mine better without the insert 😂
I have these clubs.
My father in law has ping eye 2 orange dot.
I’ve had 2 weights fly out of my G2’s.
He doesn’t golf anymore and gave me his eye 2’s.
They are a much better club
