The guy that worked at Bay Hill reminded me of my brush with Arnie. In 1982 i was lucky enough to caddy for my friend at the Memorial Tournament. He was a Golf Digest photographer so i was inside the ropes for all 4 rounds lugging the camera bags. At the start of the second round Arnie starts with a birdie. He's not leading the tourney so it's early in the day but the crowd cheers Arnie from tee to green. He walks the ropes for part of the way to the green talking to people and slapping hands. You could see why he had 'Arnie's Army' follow him for all those years. When he drops the putt on one the crowd goes crazy. He birdies two. The crowd response doubles. He goes on to birdie the third. People from the first and second holes are following him to the third swelling the crowd. The third is lined tee to green. I worked at one Open, two US Opens, and one Senior Open and had never seen crowds like this. Women in their 60's yelling "Arnie, Arnie, Arnie!" the applause growing with each birdie. On the way to the fourth hole i'm passed by a guy with two beers yelling "Arnie's making a charge!" all the way to the fourth tee and on up the fairway. People were cutting through woods from other holes to try to catch the Charge. The fourth green is packed with every available space occupied. When he birdies the crowd erupts in a cacophony of cheers, yells, and central Ohio hollers. The whole time he's been nothing but pure Arnold Palmer, hitching his pants up on the tee and just ripping it. He wasn't winning anymore but his years of goodwill with fans showed up that day to cheer him on. It was a singular experience for me. In all of the tournaments that i worked i never saw so much pure affection directed at anyone besides Lee Trevino.
That was a great story. You are a gifted writer. I felt like I was there. I'm old enough to have seen him in his prime. The '64 Western Open I got to follow him for several holes. I was only ten so I could dodge around for good viewing. Thanks for your story.
I bought a set of these Ping beryllium clubs new and have 1-LW and still have them along with 1-3-5-7 woods and staff bag.. Got too old to play and switched to Callaway Big Bertha with senior carbon shafts.
Wow, this is an awesome video. The Arnie stories, the persimmon woods and the BeCu Ping Eye 2 irons. But you and Ashley paying more than asking price for the woods was great. You two are total class.
The eye2s aren't illegal as long if you don't play in any R&A or usga event....at your home course you're good to go. And the problem was the rounding of the square grooves that made them too close....which in truth what utter cobblers. Anyway, you can play them no problem 😁
Y'all have convinced me to get back to playing golf for the 1st time in 30 years and introducing my soon-to-be fiance and her son to the game. Thank you
@@StackedGolf would you be interested In a full set of eye 2 green dot ( most rare lol(2-9) as well as a full set of Ben hogan apex edge (2-E) I’m looking for a nice left handed set. If you wanna talk let me know how to connect with you.
Nice gesture giving that guy more for the Persimmon clubs. He had a wonderful story. Ashley’s first putt is an automatic make. The “world’s greatest putter”. Really enjoy watching you two. 100k is coming soon.😀😀
Funny story about Edgewood Tahoe. My friend was married there (think it was 1999) I flew in from Colorado so I had my tux sent up. Get there for the ceremony and realize they sent the wrong color shirt. Had to go into the Proshop and buy a $75 silk shirt as it was all they had even close. I still have that shirt in my closet
The guy who mentioned A Palmer and Tony Lemar reminded me of the golf book that started me on the golf road was Champagne golf . Shame about Tony’s short career! It was mirrored by Payne Stewart! I believe that they were both reigning U S open champions at the time of there tragic passing.?
That was John saying words! Persimmon woods just look better than those metal monstrosities and the ones you picked up are gorgeous. Shout out to my friend Nick who continues to play persimmon and maintain a 2.8 handicap index!
The Palmer Peerless woods reminded me of an old expression that will still come out of my mouth, much to the amusement of my younger friends - "I caught that one on the screws!" I can recall from my early days, there was no better feeling than catching a balata ball flush on the screws. And yes, the trajectories on the old clubs were much different from nowadays. Stay low, and roll forever. I still can't get used to hitting a driver and watching it hit, bounce twice and stop. Anyway, those BeCus are gorgeous! So jelly! Love the whole vintage thing today. Love you kids! Jim
I’m old enough to remember when these becu irons came out. Bucket list item for over 30+ years. You got lucky on this set of becu’s at that price. Great find and video.
I owned the ping bc’s for a number of years; gave them up for stronger lofted irons. What a horrible mistake!!!! When the finish starts to petena (sp) , warm soapy water, liter of coke, and a dry towel will restore the beautiful finish to “like new”. Enjoy.
Hey Guys! More awesome flea market finds! Beautiful Ping's and real persimmon woods.... Great to see that Ashley survived her encounter with the acupuncturist and can still make putts! Yay!! Love the channel....
Love your Channel!! Try using a balata ball with the persimmon woods, I think the low ball flight is due to the fact the covers on modern balls are designed for Titanium!!
My goodness, those Palmer Peerless persimmon woods are marvelous and deserve their own display case. Glad they've found a good home. Good on that gentleman who sold them to you. Hearing his story about Arnie was probably my favourite part. Arnie was a special man. RIP. One thing about hitting persimmons, I suggest you find some old balata balls for which these woods were meant to hit, and enjoy a different kind of strike. They were meant for each other, and it's a flight and feeling that can't be replicated with the modern balls.
Yep great video guys. The Arnie story from the gentleman was really nice as well as those persimmons you got from him. The BC Ping Eye 2 irons were sweet as well.
Hi John I own a Otey O- Two Crisman putter that I bought in 1986 It has been one of my go too putters over the years. I love it Two. Thanks for all the hours of enjoyment.
I never ever comment on vids but had to pause to comment, buying kids clubs to give away is the best thing I've seen on the internet for ages, keep up the good work. I like it when you also buy food, shows us Brits what proper fast food looks like. X
Classy clubs for a classy couple. Love it when you up bid, might cost a few dollars but it earns more subscribers and well is just darn classy. My brother has the Ping Zing copper edition.Great video.
Only comment as I start to watch this clip, you guys deserve all the viewers and support. SO entertaining, and thank you for letting us be a part of your lives!!!! Please keep them coming and keep up the awesome work! 🙏🙏🙏 And John, you played competitive golf? That might explain a lot!!!
As always great video ... trust me on the Persimmon Drivers > you can nuke them ... if you hit em on the screws ... just have to make sure the last 75 or so yards are not going left or right if you swing 100%. I made it in Golf Digest back in March of 87 for having the longest Hole In One in The World for 1986 with one ... 400 Yards.
I bought the same ones yrs ago.........I could not play with them........too offset for me !!! But my Powerbuilt Citation persimmons I could kill......loved them !!!! Ashley----there is a very good acupuncture in Port Orange, off of Clyde Morris who fixed my numb left hand.......I'll see if I can get the address and I'll put it here !!!
Your Otey Crisman putter reminded me that I've had one since the '60s. Mine has a wooden shaft though and a wrapped leather grip. I forgot all about it.
So jealous of the amount of quality clubs you guys find all the time….nothing like that in New England! Your ballstriking is so pure you hit all the clubs you try out so well
It's definitely one of the perks of being in the largest golf market in the world essentially! The crazy flea market that they go to sometimes in largo is unbelievable no exaggeration there are 20,000 clubs on site at any given time
Got my PE2s BECU last year 2-5,7-L. $150. The 6 iron itself from ping was $150. Keepers. 4eh-Vah. I’m going in my garage to to just hold them. Flip another set white dot for $500. I love my BECUs
That drive in the first hole rolled out to about 280 yards you said the hole was 326 if my math is not wrong with the 40 yard pitch to the green!! I had a wilson putter similar shape to that putter as well!! That driver definitely had a low ball flight!! Lots of great deals too!!
You made ne realise that "I got THAT Out of the Screws!" Has become "I got THAT Out of the Middle!" Because the Big Dog no longer has screws... English is a wonderful thing. My current favorite club is my Adams Redline 13* 3wood. It's like you're buying my life in a Second Hand Goler Shop 🤣🤘I feel Old... second hand... hmm could be a song in that! Oh and I recently gave a set of Ping Eye 2 Beryllium Copper irons, missing the 8 iron I think, to my neighbor/mate... I must show him this video...
Ping Eye 2 might just be the best iron ever designed because they seem to fit so many golfers so well. I’ve had at least 5 sets, but settled on the ISIK model for my senior years. Great persimmon find! I think the driver loft was often in the 7 degree area.
The grooves on them are outrageous as well I used to take my buddies sandwich and hit low spinners at El Diablo before they closed it down and watch the ball spin 30 ft across the green
Dude just saw that set at Roger Dunn and was like dang(ping eye 2 BeCu), I remember those, such sweet clubs, my aunt and uncle had a set, I remember they had to wait months to get them back in the mid 80's...Congrats on your find!
I have both sets of Pings you mentioned. BeCu 2-sw and + no+ 3- pw. The copper were by far my favorite . I hunted for years to find them. Back issues keep me from playing now but I still swing them every once in a while in the backyard.
Ping Eye 2 Beryllium Copper… the clubs every golfer wanted at that time. I got myself a set of Ping Eye 2 a while ago and I’m happy with that but would love those Beryllium Copper.
I have a becu eye 2 SW and a eye 2 plus SW that I still use. The becu is softer and harder to put touch on. But I will always keep it around because I know it’s a classic
Thast Adams Redline driver will hit the ball as far as any ew driver. I used one until a couple of years ago. I changed to a Callaway 816 Alpha DBD only because the Adams is slightly fade-biased. I hit them the same distance, although I am more consistent with the Callaway.

Thanks Akiva!
I bought a set of these Ping beryllium clubs new and have 1-LW and still have them along with 1-3-5-7 woods and staff bag.. Got too old to play and switched to Callaway Big Bertha with senior carbon shafts.
Love the BeCu’s
Can I buy the old set ? I’ve been wanting to get into golf

Those Ping clubs are beautiful. I just picked up a complete set of Ping Eye 2+,2-pw, from Goodwill for $1.99 per club. SCORE!
What was in the gift bags???
Y'all have convinced me to get back to playing golf for the 1st time in 30 years and introducing my soon-to-be fiance and her son to the game. Thank you

That guy with the Persimmons was awesome. The Arnold Palmer story showed what a humble man of the people The King was. Great video guys!
That is awesome Those are the exact irons that I use I have one through nine Ping eye 2 black in berillium copper
Ashley's acupuncture worked. Yaa😀😀😀
Thanks! It’s helped a lot so far 😊
The Channel keeps getting better!!!
Thx you two!!!!
Love to hear the Arnie story….the irons look amazing and you hit them really well.

Those beryllium clubs are beautiful 😍
Otis crimson Selma Alabama. Grew up near him. He was a great putter maker. Did it out of his house early in his career.
Really? That’s awesome. It’s cool you got to see it all from the beginning ⛳️👍😎
What a great story to go with those beautiful clubs 👍👍
"There's a lot of reasons why I don't play competitive golf anymore, but that's the one I use." GREATEST line ever spoken.
The reason I usually use why I don’t play competitive golf is because I’m crap! 😂

You've Inspired me to take up golf again after 15 years off the club's. 👍

great job john you are the man for not cheating people
We already have a drinking game, every time Ash nodes her head we drink.lol
You won't stay sober for too long lol. It's so cute when she does it.
Nods her head and says "Uh-huh".
Hey Guys! More awesome flea market finds! Beautiful Ping's and real persimmon woods.... Great to see that Ashley survived her encounter with the acupuncturist and can still make putts! Yay!! Love the channel....
The mullet is John's tactical haircut. Sellers feel bad for him and give him a good price.
Exactly!

Awesome buys and golf. Great video
Really torn - wish you'd hit those woods, but then again it would be a shame to tarnish them. Loved the video.
Thanks, guys. Great video.
Ping eye 2 coppers are my holy grail clubs but there hard to find and really expensive.
Agreed.
Always great seeing you guys on the golf course. Finally, at 14:30 the famous Ashley hand ball stop. Best couple on UA-cam.

Those Eye 2's are sick! The old persimmon woods were so beautiful....don't make em like that anymore.
those woods are beautiful and nice to see you finally get a set of Ping EYE2's BECU's and it's not a coating they are made of that material
There’s nothing quite as nostalgic as the sound of persimmon striking a ball.
I got copperhead becu 1-S but have regular ping eye 2 black dot 1- L

Hit the Persimmons, John, they were meant to be played with!!!
I love a good story. I bet that gentleman has told that story for 50 years or more. Good for him.

You guys are an awesome couple and blessed keep doing what you're doing I follow you guys all the time
Another great video. Perfect combination of stories and information Love Ashleys laugh. Good clean natured videos. Ty
God damn those irons are amazing, I am very jealous indeed, what a find I would love a set of them 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Ping Eye 2 might just be the best iron ever designed because they seem to fit so many golfers so well. I’ve had at least 5 sets, but settled on the ISIK model for my senior years. Great persimmon find! I think the driver loft was often in the 7 degree area.
I2 in any iteration are amazing, but the beryllium copper i2 is a work of art and because they were found to be toxic they were taken off the market
The grooves on them are outrageous as well I used to take my buddies sandwich and hit low spinners at El Diablo before they closed it down and watch the ball spin 30 ft across the green
Love your site, just got back into golf after 15 yrs and having fun in Palm Coast
I dig those Eye-2's. I used to have a set of ISI's in copper. I loved those. No idea why I sold them. Great video as always. Love your stuff guys.
Great video guys!!! The ping irons are awesome!!!
Ping Eye 2 Beryllium Copper… the clubs every golfer wanted at that time. I got myself a set of Ping Eye 2 a while ago and I’m happy with that but would love those Beryllium Copper.
Ping eye 2's were the first nice set of clubs I bought my self I still have them today .
I enjoy your history lessons. Don't worry about long explanations.
Just gotta love goodwill hunting for clubs!
I don't golf but I do buy golf clubs thanks to you guys!
An "Absolute Stunning" video. Seriously loved it, Just goes to show, you never know who you will meet.
Great episode! You guys are so joyful that it brings out the good vibes in everyone!
Great video guys. I think one of your best! That guy at the flea market was awesome as well as the ping clubs! Great finds. Keep me comin. Thanks.
Great video guys!
Thanks John!
"Nature* and *Words* my favorite part of your videos . Keep up the great work
John you have an awesome swing so smooth and powerful, and Ashliegh is a great player, for someone so tiny , always love your trips to the fleamarkets, brilliant
Best ever! Great clubs, great golf and lovely people. The perfect combination.
Love the copper Ping Eye 2's... Just bought some more today.
That 3W sounded so sweet when you hit it off the tee.
