They can do you for it though. We had a driver a few years ago, rear ended someone with no boots/shoes on. They said that you can't break as effective with no grip on your feet. Was prosecuted, received a fine and points, so be careful. Not worth the risk. If you can't feel/break correctly with your boots on, you've got the wrong boots on. I've never had an issue with boots and pedals in over 30 years.

Well said mate. Luke just doesn’t want to get his cab dirty.
But when it comes to the crunch and you need to press hard on that pedal in an emergency boots give you better grip and allow you to apply more pressure without slipping.
I always wear my boots when driving. I’m a cab hopper so it pisses of some on the drivers because they’re sissies who cry if they get a footprint on their floor mats lol 😂

I would say that the need to wear shoes driving only really applies to older vehicles without adequate brake assist and with often pretty vicious looking foot wells with metal corners everywhere and d the like. A modern vehicle which doesn't require excessive force against a sharp-edged rubber pad won't need shoes to drive safely and you've proved this when stopping for the woman who practically jumped out in front of you.

I totally agree with you Luke. Driving barefoot isn't illegal, as there's been a few times that when me and my hubby would go to parties (usually Christmas/New Year), I would drive, so he could drink, and the first thing I would do is kick off my stilletto shoes, and away I'd go. Quite safe. Personally, I think driving with high heels is totally unsafe, you could trap your heel under the pedals. Waiting for buses was terrible when it was really cold, its that wind-chill factor kicking in. It was so bad one time, that the whole queue for the bus moved 100 yards further back, as the bus-stop is right out in the open, and when we moved 100 yards further back, we had houses sheltering us a bit from the wind🤣

Is driving without shoes illegal UK?
Here is the law in a nutshell: it is not illegal to drive in the UK without shoes on and the same applies for wearing flip flops - there is a catch though... You can get behind the wheel of a vehicle barefoot or while wearing flip flops, provided you are able to operate the controls safely.

I would argue that driving with heavy boots on is potentially an issue (same as wearing flip flops). Rule 97 of the UK Highway Code states that the ... footwear you choose to wear whilst driving should not prevent you from using the controls properly. Part of that is feeling the pedals, and part is them not getting caught under the pedals (big boots can often catch more than one pedal). Like you, I always stowed my boots on the steps, but I always wore some lightweight slip on trainers. I never liked the feel of the pedals directly on my feet.

As a former paramedic. You’re a fool for driving without shoes on. If you were to see the state of victims foot injuries at accidents you’d be wearing hog nail boots. Woman tend to drive with no shoes as they work in heels. And reference formula 1 drivers. When Jonny Herbert had his bad f1 accident. His worst injury’s was his feet. As the drivers boots weren’t worth a damn.

    • @lukecinahgv
      @lukecinahgv  9 місяців тому

Yet it isnt mandatory to wear anything 🤷 if it was dangerous it would be a legal requirement
Regarding Jonny Herbert. That , and the reason he suffered major injuries on his feet is because the entire front half of of the car completely ripped apart, and his legs were completely exposed.
So as a former paramedic, do you recommend wearing some sort of heavy duty, bullet-proof, shatterproof penetration proof footwear? Can’t imagine that would very comfortable all practical. which would then be your breaking the law.
I get that you’ve probably seen some horrific accidents. But I don’t think the front end of the lorry is going to certainly disappear, and I think if my feet are going to be crushed for whatever reason, the footwear I decided to wear probably won’t be sufficient enough to actually stop the damage

It makes me laugh you guys in the UK seem to get so frustrated with unloading/loading "tipping" times etc. Over the years ive realised that you can never hurry up a storeman/hoist driver so just go with the flow. If they are slow for my next delivery/collection so be it. Boss cant get on my case etc. The only time its a issue is when I have to meet a crane of something like that. Otherwise just cruisssse cuzzie. Paid by the hour.

Not at all. I feel the pedals more. I’m more in control. I’m more precise. How is that irresponsible?
Driving with boots on I would argue is irresponsible. Big clunky boots that get in way, can get trapped under pedals, can even press two pedals at once. THATS irresponsible
There are no specific laws concerning footwear whilst driving. However, Rule 97 of the Highway Code does state that the clothing and footwear you choose to wear whilst driving should not prevent you from using the controls properly.
Explain to me how driving barefoot stops me from using the controls properly? I’m literally in the most control I can be in.
