Well this was originally a Haunted Shores song called Sentient Glow but they decided to redo this on the latest Periphery album. The instrumental is basically the same on both of them, including these 2 riffs
I agree with you, but you gotta keep in mind that many of us are not born in the 90s. For some people the Periphery sound defines “Djent” It’s the same shit, pop in the 90s is very different than pop right now. Change is a good form evolution. All I’m saying is definitions of certain sounds/genre can change and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Also Meshuggah still rules and they should have a few dozen more capital Ds - DDDDDJENT
@@tajwareatswatermelon This is metalcore. Djent is usually defined by two things, guitar tone, and “progressive-ness. (For lack of better terms and is another discussion within itself)” Djent is a style of guitar playing, not a genre. This type of playing as well as Periphery, Veil Of Maya, Erra, would fall under the metalcore genre but obviously incorporate “djent” into their work. They in themselves are not djent. I have to agree with the original guy’s statement that this isn’t perhaps djent but it’s still great metalcore, regardless of perceived definition of djent but rather what it actually is. I’m not gonna say you’re wrong and need to change the title and cry about it but I’m just giving my overthought statement.
@@ac-130fan Just to clarify, you did see that I wrote “djenty” right? I just meant it’s a djenty-ish style riff. Look at any typical metalcore riffs and see this video again. There’s a lot of intricacies, complex movements compared to typical metalcore riffs. I get what you’re saying, but I think it doesn’t even matter if it’s a damn genre or not. I like relating djent with complex riffs rather than just the standard Thug Chug sound alone. At least that’s how I think while writing my own riffs.
@@ac-130fan well if you put it that way, i could say meshuggah is death metal with djent incorporated. djent is just a sound people make on guitar, but it can be a genre, that doesnt mean its clearly defined. plus, periphery are known for being the “founders” of the genre, so i dont know why they wouldnt be considered in it
This is Sentient Glow if you recognize it and can't put your finger on it
I can tell something feels sharp
Tells you a lot about how they revisit ideas that maybe didn't work the 1st time around.
@@dougcronkhite2113 actually it exist since 2013 as a whole song in haunted shores
I can't put my finger on it. Literally. This song is way too hard to put your finger in the right places.
Hes so damn creative with his riffs. Love it
Marks picking is just 😘

🔝🔝🔝
Can someone tell me the tuning Mark’s using?
Drop C on this song
drop c# for this video particularly
in the 90s: Djent = Meshuggah
2017: Tune down your low string to whatever and call it whatever.
This is great music but it isnt Djent.

A little late I think it’s like math rock with djenty influences tbh which is cool
GTFO with tour Djent riffs and Bathory shirt! Quorthon will be turning in his grave
Outstanding play and poor sound
